Around SBN: Has Kentucky Improved Since the Non-Conference Season?

Bobby Meacham (1st base) and Al Pedrique (bench coach) will be coaches next season.

The Astros will pay $250,000 to buy out Doug Brocail's option for 2010. The probable Type B Free Agent will most likely not be offered arbitration either.

Pedrique is the bench coach

according to the Astros.com article. So Clark is still at 3rd

Not sure I get it

I mean, Clark was a finalist for manager, and he winds up back at third. Pedrique wasn’t considered that seriously, and he gets bench coach. I mean, if the goal of giving Clark second and third interviews was not to ruffle his feathers, this can’t help. If he was given second and third interviews because he was a serious candidate, he seems like he’d be the next best choice for second in command.

who knows? maybe Mills didn’t know Clark as well. After Wade announced Clark would be the 3d base coach (just after Mills was selected), he said Mills would get to know Clark and appreciate him…which indicates that maybe he just didn’t know him. Mills said he had never worked with Pedrique but watched his actions as D-Backs manager from across the field. Mills also said that he had gotten to know Pedrique in the last week or so, talking with him on the phone about the organization. That could alll just be fluff talk. But, in any event, the bench coach should be the guy that the manager is most comfortable confiding in…. My concern is that Pedrique may have been forced on Mills, but maybe Mills likes him.

I also have this feeling that Pedrique may have a role as the Latin coach who can communicate more easily with the Latin American players. He is really the only Latin American on the coaching staff.
