Jose Cruz No Longer a Coach
In a move that probably does not bode well with the likes of Roy Oswalt and Lance Berkman, First Base Coach Jose Cruz is no longer going to be first base coach for your Houston Astros?

There is the story...now I'm not sure what he did wrong or anything, and not sure at all why he is being let go?

I don’t understand why you think this doesn’t bode well for Berkman, Oswalt, etc. I had a feeling that Cruz would be let go, but I would have expected it to happen after a new manager was picked. I think if you are picking a new manager, particularly one from outside the organization, you should give him the opportunity to pick his whole staff.

I'm playing connect the dots
Tim Bogar and Sean Berry played together on the Astros in 1997 and 1998.
I wonder if Tim Bogar has been offered a position of the coaching staff, regardless of who is picked to be the manager.

Preposterous
This is a bone-headed move. I was a Wade defender until now. Isn’t it nice to have a spanish speaking coach who knows the organization and the players? Ridiculous. I mean, if the guy was 75 and drooling, that would be one thing.

Some comments on Justice's "yay team" article about Cheo's firing
When I figure out what Jose Cruz did, I’m going to tell you why he was fired.
“C’mon Justice. You’re the reporter. It’s your job to find out what Cruz did. If you can’t find that out then maybe you’re just a celebrity reporter.
Maybe the Chron can offer you a different position in the organization since your sports reporting is lacking."
-Eric
“What are you talking about? His butt-pat was legendary and no one could point down to second base like Cheo. Expect batters to run directly across the field to third without his invaluable instruction.”
-Joshua
“Maybe Cheo can come out of player retirement and do some starting pitching for us. See… there could be a silver lining for us all here…”
-Lane
“I constantly heard about players, such as Bourn and anyone who played left field with the wall saying that Cheo was a huge help in helping them with reading the ball in this ballpark and he would work with them before the game to practice.”
-Robb
“no cheo…who will high-five/fist-bump the few players that actually make it to first base…i’m crushed…”
-Possum
“This is scary, very scary—I actually agree with you. I must be coming down with something…”

I really don’t understand the hue and cry over Jose Cruz. It’s not like they didn’t offer him another job. Coaching jobs are not lifetime jobs in the MLB. Jose Cruz has stayed in one place a lot longer than most coaches. Get a new manager and expect new coaches.

I agree
It sounds to me like he got a promotion. He doesn’t have to go on road trips! And he still gets to hang out in Kissimmee during spring training. According to Footer, Wade said he wanted Cruz to watch the games from his box “with the rest of his brain trust”, so it looks like it would be a position of greater influence.

You couldn't pay me to watch all the Astros games from the GM box
On second thought, yes you could, and you wouldn’t have to pay me much (the food and drinks are free, right?)
