Pettitte open to Astros?
"Davidoff of Newsday engages in what reads as just pure speculation. He rationalizes the potential signing in the context of Houston's cheapness this winter with, "The Astros could stretch their payroll to make room for the Houston resident Pettitte."
This seems unlikely, but would be welcomed.

Cost
Would he take a pay cut to come here? No way Drayton would go more than 10mm I would think.

I think he'd take a pay cut
If he wanted to play. I think it also depends on how pissed he still as at Drayton for the 2006 offseason fiasco.

I was really mad at Pettitte when he left but I'll take him back.
I’d rather have Sheets though.. but hell SOMEONE please!

Have you given up on your Ben Sheets chant?
I don’t see Uncle Drayton offering more than 8mil for Pettitte, plus he looked really old down the stretch last season.

Pettitte would be a good addition to the rotation.
He would probably post a high 3’s or low 4’s ERA in the NL. You have to remember that he pitched in the AL last year, which inherently raises the ERA, and in the toughest division of the AL. Keep in mind that Pettitte has pitched more than 200 innings every year after 2004 (when he underwent arm surgery). Roy Oswalt is the only other Astros pitcher in the rotation who can reasonably be projected to pitch 200 innings (and he less of a lock for it than Pettitte).
Having said all of that, I tend to agree with Dying Quail’s comment that McLane taking on Pettitte is unlikely, but it would be welcome. I don’t see McLane authorizing $8 – $10 million for Pettitte. However, stranger things have happened, I suppose. McLane has an odd sort of way of picking up Astros from the past, like Hampton.

I think it's unlikely
But I agree with all your points about how much value he’d provide us.
Maybe Andy could be a mid-season acquisition or maybe Drayton might just wise up and realize he needs another work horse in the rotation. $8-10 million for Pettitte would be a blessing. He posted a 4.46 tRA*, which equates to a 4.10 ERA, and is better than his 2006 performance in Houston.
