First post
Hi ! This is my first post on the Crawfish Boxes, and I wanted to know everyone's take on Ed Wade's explanation on why the Astros don't go after Sheets. I know he has a history of injury but come on! He would certainly be better than anyone we have now. I saw something that said Drayton McLain is about the 350th ritchest man in the U.S. He can afford to make our team a winner. If he dosen't want to spend the money to make us competitive, then sell the team.

Welcome,
As for Ed Wade and Drayton’s excuses, I certainly don’t buy them. Drayton could definitely afford to add some pitching, but he has (for whatever reason) chosen not to.
However, I think that this may, in the end, turn out to be a good thing. This blog has pointed out numerous times (as have the majority of baseball pundits out there) that the Astros’ farm system is a wreck. If Ed Wade is keeping his resources for the draft, and if he is choosing to forgo signing free agents in order to protect his draft picks, then I think this is a fine strategy, albeit a really boring one.
So I’m conflicted on this. I would have liked the Astros to have gotten somebody like Pettitte, who would not have cost them a draft pick, but I’m (somewhat) glad they didn’t go after Sheets.
most people around here are disappointed...
that the Astros haven’t done more this off-season to improve the rotation. The frustrating part now is that many good players are left on the market and some teams will get great deals, as salaries decline. But the Astros are not poised to take advantage of this situation. I still hold out hope that the Astros will do SOMETHING when spring training rolls around and players are still unsligned.
welcome!

It's good to hear that again
Even if it is in vein,
The Crawfishboxes
A good friend of mine used to say, "This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.
