Ed Wade high on Norris and Perez
But for Nieve and Paulino, it's high noon. Some interesting tid bits, but mostly more of the same company-line schpeel from the first interview. He also is excited for Rule V, de la Verra.

The only thing I didn't know is that Nieve is out of options.
I wonder if he will go the way of Carlos Hernandez? Can’t help but agree with Wade that this spring is the last chance for Nieve, at least in an Astros uniform. Paulino isn’t out of options, so I can’t see how he would be viewed the same way. The key with Paulino: is he healthy? It’s not like he has pitched his way out of prospect status. He just couldn’t get on the mound last year because of his back/arm issues.
It’s interesting that he is looking at Norris primarily as a reliever. The Astros don’t really have anyone from the minors who can threaten Backe’s No. 5 starter role, unless Paulino comes through.
Wade says Backe is more than 1 year removed from surgery. Well, that statement isn’t strictly incorrect. He is “more” than 1 year removed. But it’s more like 2.5 years removed from surgery. He is reaching the point that “recovery from surgery” can’t be used as an excuse.

True
But last season was a really early comeback, especially considering the IP he reached. Hopefully he’ll settle down this year and have a stronger arm/command.
The Crawfishboxes
A good friend of mine used to say, "This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.
