Pettitte, Wiggy to become Astros?
John Perrotto of Baseball Prospectus handicaps the race for the top 16 remaining free agents. For those who don't have a subscription, Perrotto notes Pettitte backed himself into a corner by not re-signing with the Yankees and most likely will sign with Houston for a reduced price. Teams have shown interest in Wigginton, but his landing spot may be Minute Maid Park as well. I don't see either of these two coming back here, given Ed and Drayton's statements to the contrary.
For what it's worth:
The free agents are ranked by WARP3- wins above replacement player...supposing that both Pettitte and Wigginton would take a spot in the starting lineup from replacement level players, a +5.5 wins could be the result. Again though, this would take a payroll bump of more than $10 million most likely.

Let's do it!
World Series champs.
Pimpin' ain't easy and neither is being a Sixers fan. I manage to do both. Join me at Liberty Ballers, the SBNation 76ers blog. Don't make fun of the name either. It has nothing to do with the New York Liberty of the WNBA.

I suppose stranger things have happened.
The Crawfishboxes
A good friend of mine used to say, "This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

I'd be extremely optimistic if we signed both these guys.

The last I saw, the Orioles were linked to Wigginton...
O’s were looking at Wigginton for 1st base. I don’t know what they would do with Huff (DH, maybe?) Anyway, the article quoted the O’s manager as saying that Wigginton and Freel (whom they traded for) are the types of personalitiies they want to build their team around.
