Welcome back Josh Anderson...

Who's done what, when, and how is no longer relevant.  We just need to win.  Fluke performances, luck, or clutch-ness is exactly what we have to have tonight, tomorrow, and Sunday.  This really might be the last meaningful game of the season, let's drink it in.  I hate the Braves -- just needed to throw that out there.

Damn. I thought the RF'er caught that one

LOL
Wiggy hits a bomb over the RF wall just out of the reach of the Rf’er.. thought he was robbed at first.
2-0 Astros

Meanwhile, Edmonds hits a bomb himself

And right now, everything is going in the right direction.
1-0 Cubs over Brewers (2nd)
2-0 Marlins over Mets (5th)
2-0 Astros over Braves (2nd)

All slim leads though.

bastard had to go and punch a teammate

cursed us with Ausmus for eight years.

by Only_A_Lad on Sep 26, 2008 8:04 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

id consider him

overrated. not a curse. but his “handling of the pitching staff” wasn’t enough for me. or to balance his terrible offense. adam everett may have played good enough defense to make up for his bat, im not sure if ausmus did.

Are the ringing endorsements

from Biggio, Bagwell, Oswalt, etc, not believable for you?

by Xan on Sep 26, 2008 8:35 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

"Curse" was hyperbole

But his terrible hitting has far outweighed his defensive value. As HLP says, Everett made up more than enough with the glove to balance out his value.

And Biggio, Bagwell, and Oswalt might like the guy, and they even might think that he’s a good player. But the fact is that all statistical research on catchers’ pitcher-handling abilities show inconclusive results.

Really, Meluskey would have been a good offensive catcher. He was sidelined by injuries when the Tigers put him back in the minors, but you never know what would have happened. And he might even have matured as he aged.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m going to miss Ausmus. He’s a cool guy and a smart guy and a good defensive catcher. I just don’t think he was that great of an all-around player, and I think Hunsicker really screwed up with Meluskey.

I like Ausmus

I’m a believer a team must have a good defensive catcher, shortstop and center fielder to win. Ausmus was one of the best defensively both in his catching and his relationship with pitchers.

Anderson

lead-off double off Hawkins.

Corey Hart just put the Crew in front, 2-1…

Mets down 6-1.

I’ve got a bad feeling..

1-run ballgame

Johnson with a sac fly, Hawkins first ER here, a poor time for that to happen.

Big weekend for me, sports-wise

Two teams in fantasy H2H finals and the Astros clinging on to hope in October. Let’s hope the Cubbies can do something here.

should be a throwing error on Tejada

and then Valverde gets a second out on a weird tag of the runner at 1st who headed too much toward 2d base. Home plate ump overruled 1st base ump on the second out.

Josh Anderson continues to hit Astros' pitching.

And that may put the astros out of their misery tonight.
