Cincinnati Reds at Houston Astros, Sep 24, 2008 7:05 PM CDT: Do or Die and Then Hope.
Cincinnati Reds at Houston Astros, Sep 24, 2008 7:05 PM CDT
Ramirez is relatively new the Reds, but here's a link to his career stats (including access to his minor league data). Randy Wolf, well my work with his DIPS ERA suggests his been lucky, but please baseball gods, please, let him be lucky one last time. Tonight Mets win and an Astros loss could spell the end of our playoff hopes -- hence the title "Do or Die." We don't know that much about Ramirez, but hopefully we find out that "Ramon Ramirez" is spanish for "give ups home runs and has little control." Outside of that, I can't provide any more relevant commentary.
If need be, I'll be watching the game in the buff to ensure an Astros victory, a la my happenstance strategy from the 2005 NLDS Game 4.

A good friend of mine used to say, "This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

SUCK
On a positive note. I just finished my HW for the night and remembered to put up the Line-up…somehow that’s not a lot of consolation…

Carlos Delgado hit a grand slam after 3 walks
Against Zambrano, by the way.

Zambrano is toast
His no-no was definitely solely the result of cortisone injection allowing him not to feel. Karma, thankfully is kicking him in the ass right now.

Does anyone know what happened to Juan Encarnacion??
After he took that ball to the head awhile back? I don’t remember seeing him around.

As far as baseball goes, looks like he did.
Fortunately there’s more to life than that.
bob1968:
What is the possibility of Juan Encarnicion coming back from the eye injury?
JMozeliak: [the GM]
I’m sorry to say that he will not. His injury will likely result in his career ending.
(Mets) Perez gets himself into a jam loading the bases on one out.
Cubs then score two on a DeRosa double.
5-3 Cubs, 2 in scoring position with 1 out.
Meanwhile Randy Wolf gets one of the crappiest outs anyone can get.
Pop out bunt right to the catcher.

So will his arm totally fall off next year?
If it hasn’t already? ‘Cause that’s what it’s lookin like.
I think it will
He’s dealing with rotator cuff issues that he’s essentially just trying to numb to get through it. He’s playing with fire BIG TIME.

A nice hit for Bourn is caught. Too bad.
Meanwhile, Zambrano walks his lead off hitter. Too bad again.
That looked so good off the bat, but it just refused to fall
Damn you back spin.

Zambrano leaves game with 2 on base...
Piniella afraid to let him face Delgado. Man, Delgado has been hitting like a mad man in the last month. I recall a few months ago when people were saying he had no bat speed left, and was looking a guy in his last year of baseball ability. Funny how things can change.
Greetings everyone
I haven’t read this blog in awhile, but were you guys getting bombarded by Cubs trolls regarding that whole Ike situation (like the forum on astros.com)?

Yes. Cause clearly Zambrano is so good.
And his no hitter was not a fluke.
(Ok, he is good, but still)

I have had three cortisone injections
You feel like superman after them. You can do no wrong. Then you way over extend yourself and your worse than you were before.

Seriously
How has no one sat down with these kids and said, “Listen here are the basic fundamentals of basing running…”

Didn't they try that back in July?
I distinctly remember a story on Astros.com talking about them bringing up a AAA coach to work on their base running skills.
That was kind of pathetic.

I'd imagine
Leaving aside the steroids issue, he deserved another year. The problem is that no teams really had room for him, and few were really willing to deal with the media circus that would follow him.
Cubs working on losing that lead quickly...
A double and a single with no outs has men at 1st and 3rd
Mets about ready to win their game...
lead off triple in 9th with no outs. some not so great defense by the Cubs.
Cubs intentionally walk the bases loaded

I expected the Brewer collapse
with that set they had vs Phillies. I’m a little more surprised by the the Mets nosedive. That’s been fun too watch.
