Ike Gone - I Have Power!!!!

Pretty crazy storm... fortunately me and all of my family(as far as I know) have made it through safely with little to no damage to our homes.  Hopefully any of you guys and gals in the coastal area have the same luck.

I just got power back at around 8:00 PM today after having it go off at around 11:00 PM last night...

It was a pretty damn crazy storm... fortunately the 4 huge pine trees by my house all made it though and the only limbs that fell, did so in my back yard and didn't hit my house... I did have to break the chain saw out and do some clean up work for a few hours, but I consider that a blessing compared to what many others are going through and have gone through.

My thoughts and prayers go out to everyone involved and hope everyone makes it through the storm as safely as I did.

One more thing... I think one of the top 5 greatest feelings in the world is hearing your AC, fridge, lights and fans come on after you've been without power for an extended period of time.  Hopefully those without power get to have that feeling shortly.

Congrats!

I was without power for a couple of hours up here in College Station, and I quickly realized how ADHD I am, as I got bored very quickly. I never had any real worry about being without power for an extended period of time, though, as most of this area still had power.

Glad you’re okay!

Thanks!

It’s boring being without power… especially when it’s storming out side… I spent most of my day winding up this hand cranked radio that we have(you turn a crank on it to recharge the batteries) and listening to the news on the radio..

They are saying that some people could be without power for 2 weeks! I don’t know how I could handle that… I guess I would be excited to have to go to work.

I'm glad...

that things near you are good! I kept thinking this weekend, this is more what Rita was supposed to be like (I was in Katy 3 years ago for that, but now am out in California) and how lucky Houston was during that storm (though I know others weren’t so lucky).

Isn’t it nice that for many of us, the location of tomorrow’s game is one of our big worries tonight? It means most pieces are our lives are in the right place. Yes, I know I am a big time pollyanna…

my story

Yea, thanks for ur concern. It is ridiculous now. I still have no power ( we are at a friends hosue for the night. Trees and debris everywhere. Terrible in Southwest Houston (i live) apparently downtown Houston is closed. Places an hour away like crystal beach and bolivar peninsula are so bad that media is not allowed there. Gov. official wont allow any to see how bad it is. SO not good at all…so far i believe 3 deaths but unfortunatly that is expected to go much higer. Galveston and other cities are completly destroyed. 1.7 Million ppl. dont have power (just centerpoint talking about). Just terrrible. My family and I and friends are OK. Power went out at about 7 PM in my hosue so we moved to a nieghbors hosue who evacuated along with another family. Power there went out about 3:30 AM. I went to bed at 5 AM for only about 1 hour and a half. All night we were looking at trees falling. transofrmers were blowing up and the sky would turn blue. In the backyard branches were stuck on a powerline and it was on fire and we watched it on fire. It was causing sparks to go on our diff. houses. We called teh fire department to let them know but they couldn’t come out bcz. of teh conditions. luckily it died out after 30 minutes and no harm done. So i continued watching outside (2nd story) looking at a bunch of lights from a distance, suddenly the lights went out and that was pretty cool how it everything became dark in 1 second. After i woke up we went outside to lots of waters and braches everywhere…i have never seen so much green in my life…streets filled with trees and braches…whole trees uprooted (and my neighborhood was lucky, jeez)…it was jsut nuts…luckily my house had no damage and no flooding (though my house always floods so we got lucky)…no one we knew had flooding though we know of friends who have roof damage due to trees…hopefully our power goes back tommorow but some places here in houston and galveston adn other places wont have power for 30 days…wish eveyrone else effected by IKE, good luck and stay safe.
