Pittsburgh Pirates at Houston Astros, Going for the Sweep
Pittsburgh Pirates at Houston Astros, Sep 11, 2008 7:05 PM CDT
I suggest everyone keep a broom close by tonight. Both to celebrate a potential sweep, and also to knock away family members who may want to watch something else. Tell them this is the Wild Card chase, and if that doesn't work, use the bristles to poke them.

4-1 Phillies.
They are hurting Ben Sheets and the Brewers offense is ice cold. Not a one in their starting line-up is hitting over .217 in the last week.
And people haven't been buying tickets
because they stopped believing. :(
(I guess)

Woah
Abercrombie drops one down in front of the pitcher and throws it down the right field line. Abercrombie makes it to third.
Roy moving up the list of most scoreless innings for an Astros.
From Levine:
Richard 31
Wilson 29
Kyle 28 2/3
Dave Smith 27 2/3
Niekro 27 1/3
Oswalt 27
Sambito 26 2/3
Ryan 26 1/3
Dave Roberts 26
(after two outs in the 3rd)
4th inning, rather.
But now that it’s over
27 1/3, tied with Niekro

10 outs gone for the Astros
And only 1 run scored against Duke.
COME ON!
Miggy up, one out in the 4th.
Sup Fellas
I’m assed out… San Antonio area showing the local “high school game of the week” on FSN. A very sad and uninspired -wtf- is in order. Glad to see that Roy O is still dealing.

Junk on my FSN too
Listening online. Sounds fun.

yeah, the lack of broadcast really pisses me off....
I was in my car and try to listen on the radio, but the Austin Astros’ station had high school football, no surprise. Then it turns out KTRH has hurricane coverage (the emergency management person who is interviewed gamely says he hopes that no one mistakes his voice for Milo). It’s on 790 instead, but that comes in poorly in Austin. Finally I get home and FSN has high school football, and the alternate cable channel for FSN baseball has nothing.
It's dumb
Playoff races… The Cubs are even on WGN

austin really sucks when it comes to astros coverage
thru the summer they’re decent, but in spring and fall, astros are way down the list behind ut, random high school crap, dog shows, whatever.
i’m also suffering w/ HS football on FSN.
I can't stand televised HS/College football.
I can understand pro ball, but what’s with this school shit.. ?

Austin Area
Is the worst. It may have a dramatic impact on where I attend law school…sadly enough.
A good friend of mine used to say, "This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

Even more irrelevant
In Dallas..
what do I care about Madison vs New Braunfels?
And Cubbies whining about Houston not wanting to play in Milwaukee..yeesh..
They are having to evacuate their families in many cases..just play the games later in the week
..agonizing since 1983...
The ONLY thing
I miss about living in Louisiana is I could get FSH every night on DirectTV
..agonizing since 1983...
Both
But they are so random with their broadcasts… it’s lame. I need to switch to satellite next year.

God bless Jamie Moyer
46 year old guy held the Brewers down just enough while he was in there.

I love me some Oswalt, but
you better believe I’m watching the top of the ninth if the Phils are leading. I still miss Lidge and tonight he can help us out a bit.
Bourn to Run!
Record for scoreless innings from an Astro:
Richard 31
Oswalt 29 1/3
Wilson 29
Kile 28 2/3
Dave Smith 27 2/3
Niekro 27 1/3
Sambito 26 2/3
Ryan 26 1/3
per Levine.
I'd love to have that pitching staff
The more I see of J R Richard’s accomplishments the more I realize he was one of the dominant pitchers of all time – his career cut short by a bad heart; a life filled with tragedy.

I tune in with Astros have a 6-0 lead
and Roy Oswalt about to set an impressive Astros pitching record
An Astros fan’s life doesn’t get better than this.

A line drive to right field threatens the scoreless streak...
but it’s not quite high enough and Pence makes the catch.
Brewers don't score in the 8th...
3 outs away from moving up in the wild card (assuming we win tonight.. which.. come on.)
we're gonna jinx roy o
but damn has he been on a roll (granted, not all the teams he’s faced have been great)
Tied it.
31 scoreless…. radio says he tied it…
He should be at 31 1/3 according to Levine though

I'm watching a New Braunfels drive and Yahoo Game Channel..so I read it anyway
..agonizing since 1983...
wow
and they have 2 series vs Cubs left. On the other hand the Brewers are the last tough team Phillies will play
And the problem here:
If we catch up with the Brewers, Philly will too. :(
by entropic soul on Sep 11, 2008 9:03 PM CDT up reply actions
Yeah, could be tough.
But Ike might help.. we won’t have to pitch the rookies against them… maybe.

the record is Hershiser in the 50's (52?)
right?
there was a lot of noise when that Oakland reliever got into the 30’s a month or so ago.
Adam Kennedy..
The most despised Cardinal according to Card fans..kills inning
..agonizing since 1983...
i was reading their game thread earlier
dying to jump into the whole Ankiel/HGH thing but I resisted. i generally try not to post on other sites unless its friendly. i dont think i could be friendly there
They are actually pretty friendly there
And they show some respect to Houston at times…far more than any other Central blog
..agonizing since 1983...
Oh yah..I'm not sayin they like Houston..
Just that they hate us less than Chi and Mil..in general
..agonizing since 1983...
ASTROS WIN 6-0
Roy Oswalt 2 RBIs
Scored a run
Set an Astros record
2 straight complete game shutouts
He’s my player of the game

A year ago I would agree..
But I actually have respect for their organization and coaching..time in time out..they manage to put a good team together..
I go for Milwaukee..I start with Ryan Braun..
..agonizing since 1983...
they've almost turned over the lineup enough
a couple baserunners next inning and apu could be back up
i'm just waiting around to read the update on Ike at 10
by the chronicle’s science blogger
although i guess now i have to hang around to see if the cards drop even further out of contention
true.
I’ve lived in Austin since 1980, and I’ve almost outgrown the “old whiner” label. I remember when Austin really
was
wierd…rather just relying on a bumper strip to say it.
As for the wind, it is starting to appear that Austin will evade most of the tropical force winds, and if you live far west enough, you may not see anything.
wow, my post looks funny....I meant to put "was" in italics.
Somehow I pushed the quote icon instead.
yahoo finally caugh up again
plus the cubs thread is better at PBP than cards. cards is mostly just cursing
A four game sweep
Even of a terrible team is something that is pretty impressive.
