With Hurricane Ike gaining strength and heading towards Texas, Houstonians weren't so much concerned with a that particular storm. The Weathers we were interested in was in the Midwest. David Weathers helps giveth a win last night, and he taketh away one this afternoon. Magic Number to playoff elminination is down to 13. All is not lost though. The Marlins just took the lead over the Phils in the eighth inning, and hopefully Sweet Lou's tirade helps propel the Cubs to a victory over the Red Birds. This obviously wouldn't trim the deficit in the Wild Card, but an Astros win coupled with losses by St. Louis and Philadelphia would be a nice mental pick-me-up. It would also increase our chances just because we would leapfrog the Cards and tie the Phils in the standings. Tom Gorzelanny is on the mound tonight for the Buccos. A lefty with control issues. I like our chances.

I don't know about ya'll

but I always feel confident with Mark Loretta in the lineup. He doesn’t give away at bats, and he crushes lefties.

Hurricane IKE

Astros, alert to an impending major hurricane, and always seeking to serve the community, may move Friday’s game to a 1:00 start time. This way a fan can watch the Astros play the Cubs before evacuating the family to Lubbock.

There such great community stewards.

A good friend of mine used to say, "This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

Cubs Not Happy About It

Something about having a night game in St Louis Thursday night and flying to Houston for a 1:00 start on Friday.

I don’t understand thier complaint. They should want to play anywhere anytime. Plus they’ll have plenty of time to rest in a Motel 6 while Hurricane Ike blows through on Saturday.

So true.

I’m thinking of a certain part of the female anatomy.

Amzingly sparse crowd

at the start of the game. I would have arrived an hour and a half early to soak it all in.

Cecil Cooper was giddy in pre-game radio interview

Like a kid on his third stick of cotton candy.

I thought people on TCB were excited. We’re tame compared to Cooper.

Moehler through two.

Five more to go…let’s get some runs.

Despite the fact that he's on my fantasy team

I had not noticed that Lance was 100/100. I love you buddy.

Hunter could easily finish with

A .275 BA and 25 HR, which isn’t bad for a sophomore slump. Though it’d be a lot better if he didn’t have a .315 OBP.

Abercrombie safe on a soft grounder to first

called an error

I wondered if maybe Abercrombie would be called out for running out of the baseline to avoid the tag, but no one argued it.

Cubs getting it going now.

They better come out of this inning with 4 runs at least.
Bases loaded with no outs and already 1 run in with Soriano batting..
