Astros Watch Freddy Garcia

They're one of 15 teams to have done so today, including all the big fish.  Who knows, maybe Ed might be able to talk him into coming back to Houston.  He might not have it anymore, or with a new labrum (that's in the shoulder), he might just be a solid starter again -- one that comes cheap.

Maybe, just maybe, a Freddy Garcia signing, coupled with one of the big fish on the Free Agent market could be enough to bolster the rotation to make us a contender.

Your thoughts?

Some skepticism of Garcia coming back....

But I admit to being sentimental over the idea of getting Garcia back into the organization which signed and developed him. It would be a great story if he returned to good form. Garcia is a pitcher with a tough mental attitude; the question is whether his shoulder has anything left.

I propose...

Ed Wade plans on getting one of the two; Ben Sheets or C.C. Sabathia in the offseason. The Astros could still snag a wild card spot in my mind with the Giants, D-backs, Mets, and Reds to play this month.

We're not getting Sabathia

He’s going to be major expensive and has no reason to want to be here unless we are the highest bidder(which we won’t be).

Sheets is a possibility since he’s from LA and I’ve even heard mention that he has us on his short list of teams he’d like to play for

get garcia

if we can sign garcia this year, it can help us win…we can still make the Wild Card…now if ew can somehow get gracia to come back for next year and get wolf to resign and get sheets, we’d become a contender just like that

w/

Oswalt
Sheets
Wolf
Garcia
Wandy

then Moehler, Sampson, Backe, Wright, Byrdak, Hawkins, Valverde in the bullpen that be a nice staff…i hope we get rid of Brocail…if we do let go of hawkins i wouldn;t midn…also Felipe Paulino should help us next year

You "hope" we get rid of Brocail?

Interesting… since he’s probably been the best/most consistent guy in the bullpen all year.

Yes, I am a nerd.

Why is Wolf the # 3 starter?

If that rotation happened, it’d have to be:

Sheets (sorry Roy)
Oswalt
Wandy
Garcia
Wolf

That’d be a surprisingly strong rotation. With plenty of guys to hopefully mellow out Wandy, maybe he’d finally take that full step forward.

A bull pen of geary, sampson, wright, and valverde would be stout. fill in the others however you want.

A good friend of mine used to say, "This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.
