Houston Astros at New York Mets, Aug 23, 2008 6:10 PM CDT
Astros 9.5 games back in the Wild Card... in case you were still wondering. We're also back to mediocrity at 64-64 after losing to the Mets last night. We'll see how Backe bounces back after giving up 11 runs in 2 of his last 3 starts... his last start after giving up 11 runs was a 7 inning, 1 run outing... Maybe we'll see that Backe tonight.

Astros down quickly in their side of the 1st
Backe looking to return the favor in the Mets half… and does.
Go 'Stros!
It's nice to score first
Astros have already scored more tonight than they did yesterday.

Fangraphs.com
After HighLeveragedPerformer gave us the fangraphs.com link (thank you very much) I think I’ll be a frequent visitor over there. It has Astros at 60% chance of winning this game after two innings. Doo Dah, Doo Dah.

Rastro used to use fangraphs quite often
I never really jumped on that wagon although I think it is a very cool site.

I miss Rastronomicals
He agreed with me a lot (or I agreed with him – I forget which)

what a stud!
I love him (not in a gay way but in a way that if he wanted to have sex with me i would have to think about it.)
Pence was the right-handed Ted Williams in 2007.
A handshake is as far as I'll go.

Is it bad luck
to talk about Brandon Backe’s pitching line after three innings?

Can anyone figure Backe out?
Last outing he was totally destroyed by the D-Backs, in a beat down as bad an any pitcher can get—and so far in this outing he is Tom Seaver in his prime at Shea Stadium.
Maybe
he can’t pitch out of the stretch

If the season ended today
Cooper says Bourn would be his CF next year(per Brownie).
AHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Go 'Stros!
Bourn has a pretty decent batting average, on base since the all star break..
If I remember correctly. Let me look it up real quick. .275 and .339… not the best in the world, but better than he was doing.

97% chance of victory already
with the Mets having four more innings to bat.
I like it but not sure I’m that I believe it.

If the Astros were in this exact position 100 times
how many times do you think they would win?
I’m saying the 97% is pretty close…
Go 'Stros!
I wonder how many times this exact conversation has taken place..
“Hi, what’s your name”
“Joe Smith”
“Shut up, what’s your real name”
“That is my name”
“Lying ass hole!”
“I’m telling the truth!”
<slap, drop kick>"Burn in hell!"
Go 'Stros!
Backe at 77 pitches to start the 7th
Astros have had 1 complete game this season(last night)..
What are the chances they go back to back complete games???
I’m saying… slim to none… I don’t think Cooper leaves Backe in the game if he gets up to around 100 pitches..
Go 'Stros!
Berkman - nice fielding play
Goes to his knees to catch a grounder and throws from his knees to second for a force out.
