Houston Astros at New York Mets, Aug 22, 2008 6:10 PM CDT
Pretty good pitching match up tonight... especially if we see the same Roy Oswalt that threw 8 innings of shut out ball while striking out 10 against the Diamondbacks on Sunday.
I think this is about the best lineup we can field with the current situation of the team... We'll see how well it produces.

Mets lead 1-0, but the ball was never hit hard in the first inning.
Reyes with a ground single just past Berkman. He went to 2d on a WP. A sac bunt put him on 3d. Wright hit a pop up to RF which ended up falling in in front of Pence.
Astros blew a scoring chance in the 2d
Had runners on 2d and 3d with 1 out but Ausmus grounded to SS, and Oswalt struck out. It seemed like Pence should have been able to score from 1st on Blum’s double, which went off of Beltran’s glove. I guess Pence held up quite a bit.
3-0 Mets. Schneider with a HR, with runner on base.
Church got on with an infield single, and Schneider hit his homer to deep CF. Schneider, a light hitting catcher, is 5 for 10 off Oswalt.
Another 2d and 3d situation after a Tejada double (2 out)
Will the Astros finally score in this situation? If someone faster than Wiggy had been on 1st, the Astros already would have scored.
It's almost hard to decide which is harder to watch
A good friend of mine used to say, "This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

Pence with an infield hit with no outs.
But he is stranded at 1st base. Astros don’t seem to have any chance against Santana with runners on base.
Apparently Roy just didn't get loose enough before the game

He was fine in the first inning, really.
Nothing hit hard against him. It was just a case of good speed by Reyes and a pop fly falling in. I wonder if Pence should have caught the pop fly. I didn’t see if he got a bad jump or not. It looked like it should be an easy out off the bat, but Pence was running hard to get it, and then pulled up when he wasn’t sure if he might get it. Roy’s only bad pitch was the HR to Schneider in the 2d.
Brownie says Astros passing out press release.
It says Blum met his vesting option in this game, and will have a guaranteed 2d season with the Astros.
Yea, he needed 250 AB's
and he started the game with 249
Brett Dolan took a foul ball in the lip which bloodied him up

looks like Santana will leave game...with high pitch count.
Oswalt has a low pitch count with few base runners. Santana had 120+ pitch count with lots of base runners….but Oswalt is behind in this game.
Well, hell. Astros make no progress against Mets' bullpen.
Pence ends the 8th with a K looking. Astros got to Heilman in the series in Houston, but not this time.
Oswalt still in the game in the 8th.
Maybe he could get a complete game loss. It’s been awhile since that has happened. Oswalt with 99 pitches, 77 of which were strikes.
Astros outhit the Mets 8 to 4
and lose 3-0.
I missed the game (went to a BBQ and Music Festival (Todd Snider headlining)
But it appears this is the second excellent appearance by Roy Oswalt (sans the second inning).
Also I was thinking today, is Hunter Pence morphing into Jason Lane?
