I never would have guessed that looking at the stats between Roy Oswalt and Randy Johnson, that the Big Unit would be the one with the more impressive stats... that just goes to show how average Roy Oswalt's season has been overall so far.

Last time out, Roy went 7 innings against the Giants giving up 3 runs and earning a win(his 4th straight decision with a win).  Roy has yet to face Arizona this season.

Johnson has been outstanding in August... in his 3 starts during August, he has a 2-1 record with a 1.86 ERA.  He's pitched 6 or more innngs in every game and has yet to give up more than 2 earned runs in a start.  His strike out to walk ratio this August is 20 to 1.

The Astros really need a win today to put an end to this 2 game losing streak.  The Brewers were able to beat the Dodgers last night and move another game ahead of the Astros and now sit 8.5 games up.

For the first time in the series

D-Backs fail to bat around in the first inning. They don’t even score.

Roy almost drills Johnson

and then looks in with a smirk…

I think that may been a little payback for the 2nd pitch Johnson threw to Roy with bunting… fastball, inside..

OF assist by Pence

Basehit to right, Pence guns out the runner coming home by about 3 or 4 steps… Ausmus took the throw in front of the plate and then dove back to tag the runner

On a replay later in the game

Great play by Ausmus on a bad throw by Pence. Ausmus had to go about 8 feet up the third base line, catch the ball on a short hop to his left and in the same motion making a twisting lunge to tag the runner passing him by.

Classic Roy Oswalt today

Through 8 innings
One hit
10 strikeouts

none of this pitch to the bat stuff.

He may go for the complete game.

nope, valverde's on

he went up over 100 pitches against that last batter and coop must have decided that was enough

by lnewcomer on Aug 17, 2008 3:32 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Hope so

He gets Chris Burke, a pinch hitter, and the top of the line-up – a very doable trio.

I HATE YOU COOPER!!!!!

You've almost gotta wonder if...

…Coop is under orders to ramp up the save numbers for Valverde.

A CG on Biggio Day would have been nice.

by AstroAndy on Aug 17, 2008 3:37 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Why would the Astros want to ramp up Valverde's save total?

It will only cost them more money to sign him again. Deshais seemed unhappy with the decision on the broadcast. I know he is looking at it from the perspective of a starting pitcher; but I agree with him.

Wigginton interview

at the end he mentioned that Roy should be the one they are interviewing right now… kinda funny…

He's right too.

Roy O was dominant. I think it shows you what he can do when he gets over all the muscle ailments.

Yea

it was just funny how Wigginton was almost arguing the point
