There goes the no hitter
Drew doubled to lead off the game

Not off to a good start, Wandy...
Lead off double… moves over on a sac fly and then a four pitch walk. At least the walk sets up the inning ending double play. (For Adam Dunn!!!!!!) NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!
To be clear...
Sets it up.. hasn’t happened yet.

Just when we got him out of the league...
Didn’t he homer against Wandy in his last game?

Pitching coach out to visit Wandy

Wandy doesn't walk a lot of batters.
I’m calling shenanigans on the home plate ump.

It's Tim McLellan.
Ugh.
Manny Ramirez and the Dodgers: Filling the dubious shoes left open by Barry Bonds and the Giants.
Walked in a run
Three walks in a row.

D-Backs score 3 runs
on 2 hits and 4 walks.
Wandy does get two strikeouts to end the inning (Chris Burke and Brandon Webb)

I can't believe Wandy did so poorly against such an inept line up.
A bunch of .240 hitters and Wandy gives away three runs.
Nah - Wigginton is in the lineup

It does.
3 up, 3 down.
If he had done that last inning we’d be winning against Brandon Webb right now. >:o

wow
Just looking at the Gameday line-up, three names caught my eye:
Erstad
Newhan
Blum
Back in April, I never would have thought they’d be regular starters for the last six weeks of the season.
Web's grounder to fly ball ratio
I forgot the numbers already
but it’s like 4 ground balls for every fly ball

What’s the deal on that? A regular fan cannot come early for batting practice ?

sure to be an easy out

Chris Sampson in to face Burke and Webb.

wow it's only the 3rd inning
I’m surprised he’s on such a short leash!
It was all the walks.
There were just way too many.
by entropic soul on Aug 15, 2008 8:10 PM CDT up reply actions
I know the Astros probably plan on using Sampson for multiple innings
but, I don’t like him as the long relief guy… he’s much better 1 inning at a time.
Go 'Stros!
Is there a better option though?
I don’t see one, myself.

Grounder halfway to third
to get the runner on third out on a rundown is fine.
But I secretly hoped for a burke

I suggest...
we walk Webb.
Then we try to pick him off about 10 times.
Then we allow a wild pitch so he has to run to 2nd base.
Then we try to pick him off there 10 more times.
I think he’ll be tired by then.

We need smarter hitting coaches.
Stop swinging at every pitch Webb throws cause you are not going to hit it. Make him throw more pitches to get him out of the game. Especially you, Quintero. At this rate he will pitch a complete game.
8-1

Why do they play to 21 points on the first two games and only to15 points on the deciding third game?

by Joe in Birmingham on Aug 15, 2008 9:08 PM CDT reply actions
If you think that's bad,
you should see the idiotic rules they have for baseball.
If they go into extras, each team starts off their half of the inning with runners on 1st & 2nd and their choice of where to start in the batting order.
