San Francisco Giants at Houston Astros, Aug 14, 2008 1:05 PM CDT
A seven game winning streak has propelled the Astros into relevancy again. In order for the club to move into contender status for the Wild Card, the team needs to keep winning, and the Brewers need to lose a few (or more). Playing the Reds and Giants back to back has helped the cause, but with Milwaukee threatening to sweep a second straight series against another cellar-dweller, the odds are getting steeper by the day. A win today would be huge, with Ben Sheets throwing for the Brewers today against the Padres.

I don't like any of the options in the poll
So I didn’t vote…
Erstad should be the starting center fielder and Abercrombie shouldn’t be on the team.
Go 'Stros!
same here
I can see Wiggy/Erstad but not Abercrombie. And none of the other 3 float my boat so..
If a woman has to choose between catching a fly ball and saving an infant's life, she will choose to save the infant's life without even considering if there are men on base. ~Dave Barry
Newhan in the lineup is a fsking joke!
Today is Loretta’s birthday!! HE SHOULD BE PLAYING 2ND!!!
Go 'Stros!
Loretta should play everyday!
I like Erstad in cf and any way we can get Blum and Wiggy in the line-up works for me.
I got on board the Wiggy Wagon weeks ago!
"Giant Noobs"
Ryan Rohlinger, Pablo Sandoval and Travis Ishikawa were all called up by the Giants on Wednesday…
We need to obliterate this lineup!
Go 'Stros!

I was in Costa Rica a few years ago
I asked our Costa Rican driver who his favorite singer was. He said Kenny Rogers. Surprised me. (He sang “Lady” for us)

weird foreign country songs
my cousin and his wife just visited Thailand and at a karaoke bar in Bangkok, all the regulars wanted to sing John Denver’s Country Road (or whatever that song is called, the one about west virginia)
Can't believe it
First two Astros reach base and they can’t score.

Weird play - but a score
Q strikes out on a very low strike that goes out of play .
Q goes to first
Pence scored

Second time today
Astros get the first two men on and no outs.
and both times Tejada is the third batter
In the first inning he hit into a double play
Almost did the same thing this time but he beat the throw to first

Geary on for Moehler
Ishikawa on 2nd with one out.
Rowlinger flies out and now they’re walking Ochoa to get to Correia.
What happened to Moehler?
I was listening on the radio briefly, and they said he motioned for the bullpen himself. He was only at 86 pitches. Any news?

I think they were saying
Coop was motioning to the bullpen, but they didn’t see anybody out there. I guess Geary was already warmed and either sitting down or standing by the door. I didn’t hear anything else about anything wrong with Moehler. of course, I’m only half-listening at work.
by littlevisigoth on Aug 14, 2008 3:26 PM CDT up reply actions
Maybe you're right
I only heard a small segment, but I was full-listening, so to speak. I’m almost positive they said Moehler pointed. At first they couldn’t figure out what he was pointing at, and they said Berkman came over to talk to him. They guessed Berkman was buying time. Hope you’re right!

I guess it was nothing
Moehler was on the post-game show and said nothing about an injury. Glad you were right!

Correia
sitting in the low 70s on his pitch count and we record two outs on three pitches. it’d be nice to get into that bullpen that we’ve been tearing from limb to limb.
I'm off to an afternoon meeting
I’ll miss the rest of the game.
I think the Astros can have another big 7th and win this game.

blum w/ a LOOOOOONG double
just barely underneath the yellow line to the left of the conoco pump. some question as to whether it should have been a homer or not.
fans were reaching over the railing
and giants CF Lewis pointed up where the ball hit, as a fan might have deflected it before it bounced off the wall below the yellow line.
I think that’s possible, but it stands as a double.
even more replays
and Greg Lucas going out and asking the fans, seems to say that it was probably a home run

Two straight four game series sweeps!!
Even against losing teams, that’s impressive. One four game series sweep is out of the ordinary. Two in a row….I have to think that it has been a long while since that happened.
"We need to sweep series"
- Stros Bro, 7/31 (two weeks ago today). http://www.crawfishboxes.com/2008/7/31/583645/right-now-we-need-to-win
7/1 – 7/3 — sweep the Mets.
7/7 – 7/10 — sweep the Reds.
7/11 – 7/14 — sweep the Giants.
Keep it up, fellas! (And Stros Bro)
Man
missed the last two innings, but what a finish?
we’d be in 1st in the West and 2.5 out in the East. why can’t the friggin Cards and Brewers just lose damnit?! only 3 games behind St. Louis in the loss column. go Fish! and go Pads!
BTW
the Astros currently have the 13th best record in baseball, for those paying attention to the 1st round draft pick protection.
