So here we stand, 1 game above .500.  The chance to have a winning season very much alive and play-off hopes having yet to be mathematically eliminated -- which for Astrso fans means that hope is not lost.  Last night's thrashing brought us to a winning record for the first time since June 10th.

Offensive explosions aside, we still remain a daunting 8.5 games behind the stacked Milwaukee Brewers, which means we might just have to be better than Coop's ridiculous goal of a 90 win season to play October baseball.

However, if there ever was a starting point to take 30 of 43 games, it is against the man that is teaching the city of San Francisco to say "big mistake" 120 million times.  If the Astros bats having anything left in them tonight after last nights explosion then they should feast on Barry Zito.  If Randy Wolf keeps this game remotely close for us, expect our 7th "W" in a row.  Especially if something like this gets crushed again.

Cubs won their first game today and are currently winning their second...

Against the Braves. The Brewers have Sabathia pitching today, so I will assume that’s a win. Can you believe we have won 6 in a row and have not moved up in the standings? ARGH!

I'll be in attendance at the Brewers game

I’m excited to see Pet Co. This will be my first non-Astro related ball park to see a game at. I’ll be rooting for CC to get crushed.

A good friend of mine used to say, "This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

beating up on bad teams

pirates excepted, it seems the astros are doing better at beating bad teams this year. I’m too lazy to actually look anything up right now, but I thought I’d throw that out there.

that's gotta be frustrating for a hitter

knowing that if you hit it about 2 feet further to the left it plops down in the crawford boxes. that was really close to that cutout area. don’t know if I’ve ever seen one that close.

I think I would have PH for Wolf

He’s at 90 pitches and had trouble last inning.. bases still loaded… I’d PH for him

Giving Ed Wade (and Bob? Heck maybe) credit

Randy Wolf and LaTroy Hawkins have been nice additions.
Wade was ridiculed for both trades.
The highest compliment he received was some were indifferent to Wolf.
He acted anyway and it paid off.
Kudos to Ed Wade (this time)

I was OK with the Wolf trade from the beginning.

And my puzzlement at the Hawkins trade didn’t have to do with his ability….I said that Hawkins could be useful to the Astros if used properly. My question had to do with trading a “prospect,” even if a low level one, for an aging relief pitcher. And if that prospect (I can’t even recall his name) turns out to be another Robinson Canoe for the Yankees, it will be called a bad trade. I suspect that Wade and Heck may have had some reasons to be negative on the prospect In any event, I hope Wolf and Hawkins make Wade look good by pitching as well as possible.

What do you know?

5 straight quality starts, 5 wins. 6 quality starts in this 7-game win streak (Wolf went 6IP/4ER last Friday). we’re now 38-9 when getting a quality start from our starting pitcher (i counted by hand rather than trying to find a source that would tell me that, so i may be off a bit). of course everybody knows this, but it’s all about our starting pitching. they suck, we suck. they get it together, we get it together.

here’s to hoping the starting pitching can stay effective.
