San Francisco Giants at Houston Astros, 7:05 PM CDT
San Francisco Giants @ Houston Astros
If there is a bright spot in the Giants organization... it's Tim Lincecum... He's been outstanding this year and it shows with his stats. Of ALL the Giants pitchers this season... Lincecum is the ONLY one of them with more than 1 start that has a winning record... and his record is 12-3! Lincecum will be on the short list of NL pitchers in the Cy Young award voting this season... I just hope that the Giants pathetic record doesn't hurt his chances of winning. Lincecum leads all of baseball with 175 K's and is tied with Jake Peavy in the NL with an ERA of 2.68.
Lincecum kind of reminds me of Roy Oswalt... not a big guy, but definitely gets all he can out of his smallish frame. He also has a very nice 12-6 curve ball, much like Roy Oswalt.
I guess Cooper wasn't impressed with Wigginton's home run or his 3 RBI's last night, moving him down to 6th in the lineup. No Pence tonight. I guess Cooper wanted to give him a rest after going 5 for his last 34 AB's(.147 AVG).

I think Cooper only puts Wiggy at the 2 spot...
when a LHP is on the mound. Cooper even put Wiggy at the lead off spot earlier this year against a LHP (and he had a good game too). Wigginton has one of the bigger LH-RH splits on the team….1.046 OPS vs. LHP and ..779 OPS vs. RHP. I don’t have a quarrel with his batting order today. I might put Wiggy above Blum, but Blum has hit pretty well lately.

got the ground ball working
i don’t have much confidence on us against lincecum, unless he’s just having a bad day
by lnewcomer on Aug 12, 2008 7:09 PM CDT 0 recs
Little bit harder next time, Kaz.
Erstad and Tejada follow up with weak grounders to 2nd. blah.

I checked McCovey Chronicles or whatever it's called...
and I didn’t see a single nickname used for Lincecum (other than Timmy).

sac fly by wynn to center
drives in run from third.
throw didn’t look that strong; got slowed by the pitcher’s mound too.
by lnewcomer on Aug 12, 2008 7:28 PM CDT 0 recs
Not bad damage control, considering the situation.
1 run out of a bases loaded, no out situation isn’t bad.

remember when Puma’s batting average was around .380?

Lincecum
on the radio today(790), they were talking about Lincecum and how his father really studied pitching mechanics… Lincecum has some unusual traits about him… 1st, most pitchers stride(length between their back and front foot)when pitching is about 70-80% of their height(which is around 4 1/2 – 5 feet for most pitchers)... Lincecum on the other hand has a stride of about 7 feet. Also, unlike most pitchers, Lincecum NEVER ices his arm after games…

Oh so close
Wigginton gave it a ride, but ultimately failed just short of a 2 run home run.

gotta be careful getting that excited. I missed the initial hit and only heard the call and thought we were ahead

patty smith asks what would happen in wolf comes in late in the game
like in a long extra innings game. Brownie and JD are stumped.
I know some people were talking about that last night on the thread
by lnewcomer on Aug 12, 2008 7:45 PM CDT 0 recs
I asked about it last night
Astros announcers had no answer either.
They brought up the flipside too – do the Astros players yell criticisms at the umpire when it’s Wolf’s brother behind the plate?

Bad Job by the Fans
Winn came over to catch a ball in foul territory(that was about 3 foot in the stands) and the fans didn’t even try to stop him…

load the bases for Aurilla?
I don’t feel good about that. Aurillia is one of those gritty veterans who can be a pain in the ass.

lucky to have given up only 3 runs.

UNUSUAL FACTOID
Roy Oswalt has thrown exactly 17 pitches in each of the first five innings!

Red Sox scored 10 in the 1st inning against them…(JD and Brownie talking about it)..
Now the Rangers lead…

Don't know how they can do that.
If it is an intra-league trade (like this), you cannot make a player who is, or was, on the 25 man roster a PTBNL. PTBNL cannot be someone who played in the same league as the team he is sent to.
