San Francisco Giants at Houston Astros, 7:05 PM CDT
San Francisco Giants at Houston Astros, Aug 11, 2008 7:05 PM CDT
With Lee out of the lineup, Cooper put the players names in a hat and just shook it up to see what he would get... well what he got is a lineup that he's never fielded before. Still not real sure about why Cooper keeps moving Pence around in the 5-6 hole... When Wigginton bats down low, Pence bat's 5th... but when Loretta(not near the slugger that Wigginton is) plays, Pence bat's 6th with Loretta batting 5th... Just seems odd to me.
One thing that is for sure though... An Astros lineup without Carlos Lee is not nearly as scary as a lineup with him.
Wigginton in left field... It will be interesting to see how well he does.
A win tonight puts the Astros back at .500!!!!

Backe pitching and no Carlos Lee
This is looking like a loss to me before the game even starts. Hope I’m wrong.
Giants are bad
but they beat the Dodgers yesterday

6/16 caught stealing for Q
Is that good? I’m not really familiar with the numbers on that one.

think it's slightly above average
but I’m going off top of my head. 30% and above is pretty good. close to 50% is outstanding. 6/16 puts him @ 35.7%
i'm going to need to print out a scorecard w/ these giants
don’t know half these guys.
K’s the 2nd batter (Ochoa?)
Think there'll ever be a song with the line

Randy Wolf's brother is an umpire in this game
That doesn’t seem fair.
Maybe he’ll have home plate when Wolf pitches. That would be a hoot.

Why is okay to umpire the bases?
Whar happens if Wolf comes in in relief while his brother is behind the plate?

man that SS
has some rainbow on his throws. I guess neither was a particularly fast runner, so maybe he wasn’t bearing down.
So..
I’m sitting here eating at the computer and watching the Astros game(setting a good example for my 2 yr old) and my son says “Go Astros, Go Astros” like the video I linked last week… so he turns to me and says “Daddy, say Go Astros” so I did, and then he says “Don’t talk with food in your mouth”....
Go 'Stros!
Nice Play Matsui!!!
That’s a tough play for a 2nd basemen, ranging WAY to his left and running and throwing to 1st.
Go 'Stros!
weep for my fantasy team
after losing adam jones for the season, now Evan Longoria is on the 15 day d/l w/ a wrist injury.
Sup fellas -
That old guy rocked (off of night shift – now I can watch the night games).

the first Wiggy adventure in LF
leads to a bobble and a run score. prob scores anyway, but can’t tell
His bobble might have led to the out at second though.
Since the throw was late, it went to the cut off man instead of home. :p

Wigginton Error(Probably)
Ball hit on the ground to left, Wigginton bobbles and fires towards home allowing the runner to score…. The throw is cut off and thrown to 2nd to get the runner for out 3…
Astros down 1-0

Sanchez (Giants pitcher)
has averaged a run an inning since the All-Star break, going 0-3 in the time.
Today he has a no-hitter through 4 innings

Like Joe said, Astros no hit through 4
Althought, MLB.com says we got a run in the 3rd… Unfortunately, that mistake isn’t carried over to the real game.

Go 'Stros!
me as well
I think that’s the 3rd double off Backe today… the 1st 2 were just well place… the last one was crushed
Go 'Stros!
no hitter starting to get a bit more serious now.
I hate it when I have to start hoping for the Astros to break up a no-no.
Brownie just said that
they expect Lee to be out 6-8 weeks… in case you hadn’t heard the time table for him.
Go 'Stros!
2 runners on!
Backe bunts to the 1st base side but the bunt isn’t handled by the pitcher… looks like an error…
Backe on 1st with Q on 2nd
Go 'Stros!
Brownie says it's ruled a hit
Matsui follows up with a sac bunt, moving Backe and Q over..
Go 'Stros!
first hit is a crappy little looper that the shortstop almost caught.
now Sanchez muffs a little dribbler and it goes for a hit too. maybe Sanchez was distracted by the lost no hitter.
I think the Puma is just getting lazy...

he has given up on the season
by end of the year he’ll be completely unshaven, carrying box of twinkies w/ him to first base, drinking a beer out there.

he made the top 10 plays
on sports center today… diving play to his left and throw out at 1st..
Go 'Stros!
last I looked, the Twins were in 1st place...
kind of suprising to me. Twins don’t look that imposing on paper…but they still win.
They are 1/2 back right now of the White Sox
Both the White Sox and Twins are winning at the moment.
Go 'Stros!

Blum on deck to PH for Backe
Helluva game by Backe.
1-1 with a walk and a run scored
7 IP, 4 hits, 1 ER, 3 walks and 6 strike outs. Leaves with a chance to be the winning pitcher

geez
nice job bourn
and then what was loretta doing. at least let bourn try to draw a rundown between 2nd and 3rd and then break for home
Q singles to left
Stop sign at 3rd for Loretta, but Bourn isn’t paying attention and runs to third… Loretta decides to take off since Bourn is starting a run down and gets tagged out heading towards home…
Stupid play by Bourn
Go 'Stros!
they were screwed b/c of 2 outs
but Bourn had a lot of room to run between 2nd and 3rd. He’d hardly started back. Loretta should have made them make a play on Bourn before heading home.
Bourn with bonehead play of the week....
Speed does you no good if you don’t THINK on the base paths.

Carlos Lee.. Errr, Ty Wigginton is the offensive player of the game
I think the POTG is split between Backe and Ty, don’t forget the game that Backe pitched
Go 'Stros!
Backe is one heck of an up and down player...
Just when you are about to give up on him, he churns out a well pitched game. It was only a week or so ago that Backe gave up 11 runs in a game…the first Astro to do so since Jennings. In this game, he held his own, even when a no hitter was being pitched against him.
Game Over!
Astros win their 5th straight, this on 3-1 with Valverde getting the save.

but that seemed like a new “whirling dervish” move.
