Chris Sampson has made 13 appearances in relief since being moved to the bullpen and has been VERY good over that time.  11 of the 13 outings were made in June in which Sampson allowed just 3 runs over 15 innings for a 2.40 ERA.  Sampson is making his 1st start today since May 25th against the Phillies in which he went 5 innings and gave up 4 earned runs.  Hopefully Sampson's time as a reliever was good for him and he's turned the ship around... or maybe Sampson should just stay a reliever where he's been productive.

Hmm... Ty Wigginton leading off...  I like it!!!  Of course this goes with my whole lineup strategy that I mentioned last week... Maybe Cooper reads the blog???  Hehe.. I doubt it.

Lineup Worth A Try, Also Worth A Laugh.

Wigginton and Loretta have to be among the slowest 1-2 hitter combination of all time.

Wiggy strikes out looking in lead off.

And he is mad at ump about it. Umpire made questionable calls. Deshais said that if strike 3 is a strike now, then he might think about making a pitching comeback.

Who needs speed?

Loretta scores from 2nd on a single to right by Carlos Lee :)

Astros up 2-0

after an RBI single by Tejada scoring Lee from 2nd.

JD says this is the last time since Sunday

that the Astros starting pitcher has had a lead.. pathetic

wow

definitiely pathetic

Maybe Tejada will get untracked with that RBI.

Drove in Lee from 2d, who was chugging along and beat a bad throw.

Speed unneeded indeed. Both Loretta and Lee might have been thrown out with great throws, but the throws were bad in each case.

by clack on Jul 5, 2008 6:22 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Yep

Both throws were pretty bad

Go 'Stros!

by Stros Bro on Jul 5, 2008 6:23 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

he was quoted afterward as saying something like:

“it’s not good to be Miguel Tejada right now.” He said this is as bad as it’s ever been for him.

Balls getting hit deep.

Fortunatley, the Braves do not score.

You know what’s funny. Chacon might have started today if he had not thrown all his hissy fits. :p

You're right

He more than likely would have… and with Moehler getting strummed last night.. a good outing might have gotten him back in the rotation(although doubtful)

Go 'Stros!

also with liklihood of Oswalt going on DL....

there might have been plenty of starting chances for a time.

"that bat will die a hero"

Radio guys talking about Ausmus’s bat.

Astros up 4-0

Wigginton and Ausmus score on a line drive double to right center

Gonna get it anyway.

And yeah, he is about 50 lbs light.

I'd only get it,

if I were collecting a set … I’m embarrassed to admit I have no real Astros memorabilia.

by mokulen on Jul 5, 2008 7:25 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Does it seem funny that he is shown in a fielding position?

That’s his worst skill. They could have portrayed him with a bat.

Sampson

No runs through 5.. damnit, I forgot to put him in my fantasy team :(

Berkman is about to be third in batting average...

Behind Poojuice if he doesn’t get another hit soon.

by entropic soul on Jul 5, 2008 7:22 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Tejada gets his chance to get and RBI without an out...

for the second time today.

Also has a chance for a double play ball.

Man,

that was some bad luck

by mokulen on Jul 5, 2008 7:28 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

We had two innings where we scored

Then back to the good ole offenseless astros.

Nice defense by the Puma!

Starts and ends a double play.

by entropic soul on Jul 5, 2008 8:04 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

He should lead off again..

not only did he draw a few walks, he also worked multiple counts… Him getting on base(even though he’s slow) paid off really well tonight(especially with Loretta hitting doubles every damn time he gets up)

Go 'Stros!

these walks lead to good things...

maybe the Astros should look into it.

Astros now lead 6-1 on Loretta’s clutch hit over 3d base.

nice job by Valverde to end this game.

sometimes you worry about closers in non-save situations. But it was a no sweat 9th inning.

STAT OF THE GAME
