"Right now, we need to win series. That's all that matters."
That's a quote from Carlos Lee, a couple of days ago here and it's something we've heard Cecil Cooper say over and over again all year.
Apparently, the team is beginning to figure it out. They have won three of their four series since the All-Star Break, two of them against the Cubs and Brewers, both contending teams.
But wait - there's more! Since the break, despite winning 3 of 4 series, the Astros have only managed to break even.
Time for a new mantra?
"WE NEED TO WIN GAMES!"

We need to sweep series
Winning a 3 game series(not sweeping) only moves you 1 game above .500(per series). The Astros have 55 games left, if you divide that by 3(assuming every series is a 3 game series, which probably isn’t 100% accurate) and we have about 18 series left. If we play 18 games above .500 for the rest of the season then we’ll end up 11 games above .500 (or 92-70). That would be a hell of a turn around… but assuming the Other 3 teams above us just play .500 ball for the rest of the season… that would put us… tied for 3rd place in the NL Central.
Go 'Stros!
And La Troy is just the guy
to move us in that direction! :-)
There are four series left with 4 games, at Cincy and NY, home to SF and Pittsburgh.
But I am a terminal Astros fan…......I grew up pulling for the Red Sox. Pulling for Houston is a romp in the park compared to that!
It takes more than pitching to win a pennant, but not much!
I guess the Reds and Pirates are weaker teams now without...
Griffey, Bay, Marte and Nady.

If by some chance, the Astros went 92-70.....
I think it’s doubful all the teams above the Astros go .500 or better. There are too many intra-divsional games to make that likely.
Maybe the mantra should be...
just win series, but under circumstances, get swept….certainly not as catchy though.
