Houston Astros at Milwaukee Brewers, Jul 26, 2008 6:05 PM CDT
Last night we had a game that looked like it would be a pitchers duel with 2 of the better pitchers from both teams going against each other... tonight we have sort of the opposite end of the spectrum as 2 of the more average pitchers on each team going against each other. Both Bush and Backe have losing records.
Hopefully we have the same results as last night(only with more runs scored).
Hmm.. Tejada batting 2nd... I like it better than Bourn batting 2nd, although Tejada is more of an RBI guy than a get on base guy. Tejada doesn't walk enough to bat # 2 in my opinion, but anything is better than Bourn that high in the lineup.

Tejada singled batting second
But is stranded there as Matsui, Berkman and Lee do nothing.

ESPN seems to predict
Brewers will hit several home runs off Brandon Backe. Letys hope they are wrong.

Cubs lost today
Astros have a chance to make up some ground (I know – it doesn’t matter in the big picture – but it would make me feel better.)

Craig Counsell is a winner
I don’t know his whole History, But he’s been around awhile and has won two World Series rings (with National League teams no less – Florida and Arizona)

have to shift back to rooting against Brewers
I was all for them this past week when they were playing the cardinals.
Bourn's been getting on base at a nice clip
in the past week. whether by hit or BB, it’s been a nice change. hope he keeps it up.
Ray Durham gets his second double of the night

Bourn gets a hit (I think)
solid contact line drive that ray durham should have caugh on the line, but he fumbled it and it trickled into center.
promptly thrown on stealing.
it was ruled a hit

Mike Cameron and Ray Durham
both played here in Birmingham for AA Birmingham Barons. I think they were teammates but I’m unsure about that.
Now they are teammates for the Brewers.

Puma raps the first pitch smartly to RF
Matsui scores. Good job to keep it from being a double.

pssst, hey Geoff
there was a force at third, you know, the base you were running right towards.
low throw to Berkman still gets braun, Backe holds the line.
Pence bloops a double down the RF line
two hits in a row. been a while.
we’re going to use up all our hits tonight.
MBourn hits a bouncer to the left side
Counsell saved a run by gloving it before it got to the OF, but it’s an infield hit w/ no throw. 1st and 3rd, 1 out.
JD & Brownie been talking about Bourn's improvement
hitting balls to the left side, working on oppo field stroke.
it’s a gross understatement to say that Bourn developing into a legit leadoff hitter would be the silver lining of the year if it actually happens. (fingers crossed)
He got caught last time he tried that.

last time he stole in this game?
or with a guy on third?
still, w/ the bottom of the lineup there and Q a DP risk, I say be aggressive. They got him last time in part b/c they pitched out and it still took a throw right on the bag. go for it.
That's too risky on a 0-2 count.
They could have pitched out again. It’s easy to say he should have ran after the fact.
by entropic soul on Jul 26, 2008 8:11 PM CDT up reply actions
I probably would have wanted him to steal on 0-1 myself
But I don’t think that it’s an idiot move that he didn’t. He could have just as easily been caught.

not at a location where I can see the game...
any information you can give on the game from time to time is helpful. Looks good so far.
Bourn injured sliding into 2nd
right ankle. turned it on the 2nd base bag trying to take out 2nd baseman on DP.
he went out to CF apparently and the first shot of the telecast back from commercial was him walking back to the dugout. Bourn looks pissed.
hopefully just day to day. wasn’t limping too terribly, if at al
Bourn may have twisted a knee sliding into second
He’s hurting enough to have Jose Cruz run out to him. On replay it looked like he caught his spikes in the bag and twisted his body toward center field.
Commnedtaor say ankle ,. I thought knee.
When He tried to run to center he turned around and lefr the field.

Tejada tries to backhand Hart's grounder in the hole and boots it
they rule it a hit JD says. Like Durham’s drop on bourn, it prob should have been an error.
Coop is double switching, Geary to pitch and Wigginton to 3rd.
erstad replaced Bourn btw
Cameron hits it deep to LF
(thought it was gone when he hit it, but must’ve got it off the end of the bat)
runners hold, 1st and 2nd, 2 out
I came to work tonight to catch up
Thought I could work and watch the game at the same time .
Silly me.
I’ll watch the Astros bat and take it home.

Teada 4 for 4
single to right center.
w/ 2 outs, after Wigginton and Matsui made outs that combined went about 150 feet.
Tejada = the new Mark Loretta
All singles. :p

Puma singles up the middle
Hit #1400
runners at 1st and 2nd, 2 out.
puma’s gotten some base hits the past few games, perhaps breaking out of his slump. I wasn’t able to pay close attention, but they’re still mostly singles. Need the slugging to come back.
The first one to right was a single only because
he hit it so hard the right fielder got it back to the infield so quickly.

it was encouraging
but most RF cut that off and hold him to a single I think. still hit it well and it was a line drive.
Berkman singled
Carlos Lee can do some damage here.

Riske in to pitch for brewers
double switched Kapler to CF, so I guess cameron left. wasn’t paying attention.
Lee flies to left to end the inning.
the onion has some funny stuff
and the premise is funny, but I read it earlier today and they really didn’t do much with the joke
Prince Fielder actually made a nice diving stop
on Newhan’s ground ball
Pence grounded to 3rd.
erstad up
Braun makes a sliding catch to rob erstad
he doesn’t look comfortable out there really, but he made the play.
on to bot. 8th
I got JJ Hardy and Troy Tulowitski on my fantasy team
both hot and not enough positions to play both of them. i think I should trade Hardy for something before he cools off.
Thoughts?
he hasn't really had it for a few weeks
maybe all the talk about overwork was right. or he would be the type of guy to have a sore arm and not say anything about it.
I hate those types of guys.
They don’t help at all.

luke scott homered again tonigth
18 HR but only 42 RBI. Seems like the RBI should be higher. I guess that’s mostly a product of being on a bad team.
Weeks grounds to 3rd
Wigginton backhands it and throws him out. But Hall advances to 3rd anyway.
That’s twice a runner has done that to Wiggy recently. That was a tough play w/ a long throw, but he doesn’t do much to hold the runner at 2nd.
Just got home
That 4-2 lead disappeared fast. Now Astros trail 5-4. That’s a fine howdy-do

wiggy is the goat tonight
grounder right to Wiggy, runner going on contact. Wiggy bobbles it and gives up and throws to 1st. Problem is, Hall stopped halfway to home and he had a good shot at the runner.
6-4 brewers, 2 out.
That's bullshit.
Players who make first pitch outs and have no runs or RBIs should be forced to sit the next day.

Matsui fails Little League
hits a nubber that absolutely DIES right in front of the plate. Stands there like someone just asked him a question in English and the catcher tags him out.
Astros FAIL! game over
I hope they have a better replay of that ball on the post game
just for curiosity. I’m pretty sure it was fair, but you rarely see a ball just stop like that. He hit it and it bounced once, apparently just behind the plate and bounced forward and the second time it hit the dirt, it just stopped. It wasn’t moving when Kendal picked it up.
Home plate ump had a clean look at it over Kendall’s shoulder and immediately called it fair.
Weird.

I would guess
that it vests, or becomes a guaranteed contract if he meets certain incentives, maybe games played or some offensive goal.
braves aren’t going to let him go, esp. not after the year he’s had so far.
Did I miss the fact that the guy from the Miller commercials
was in the stands cheering after Braun’s homerun?
They just showed a replay on the post-game and I swear it’s him. Big black guy in a Miller work shirt. It’s either him or his twin. Funny.
Didn't see it.
All I saw was Doug Brocail getting his 5th loss.

they were ahead 8-7 against the mets in the 9th.
Franklin gave up a HR to Fernando Tatis.
The win tonight for the Brewers
puts them tied for 1st place in the NL central with the cubbies
