Anyways, Wandy Rodriguez vs. Manny Parra tonight...  this should actually be a pretty good pitching matchup.  Parra has had a great season going 9-2 with a 3.68 ERA while Wandy is 5-3 with a 3.31 ERA.  Wandy (hands down) has been our best starting pitcher this season(when healthy) and hopes to continue on last outing against the Reds in which he went 6 2/3 innings allowing just 1 earned run with 7 strike outs and no walks.  Parra is coming off an equally impressive performance in which he went 7 2/3 innings, allowing just 2 earned runs with 9 strike outs and 2 walks.

The Astros are catching the Brewers at a bad time... the Brewers have won 8 games in a row and sit just 1 game behind the 1st place Cubs in the NL Central.  Since the Brewers signing of CC Sabathia, they have been wrecking shop in the NL Central.  Since 7/7/08(the day they signed Sabathia) they are 10 - 3(including the current 8 game winning streak).  Sabathia has been a catalyst for the team and looks to give them a great shot at either winning the NL Central or competing heavily with the Cubs/Cardinals for a playoff berth.  Sabathia since joining the Crew (4 games) is 4-0 with a 1.36 ERA striking out 31 while walking just 8.  That's good and all... but you want to know the most impressive stat?  3 straight complete game wins... Amazing.  Sabathia started out the season rocky carrying a 7.76 ERA into May, but has really turned his season around.

The Astros lucked out during this series... no Sabathia or Sheets.

Ugh... Bourn batting 2nd... again

That Pirates series fiasco

has really depleted the Astros fan base

That was kind of brutal. The Pirates put up a lot of runs in streaks though. Extra Innings had one of their mysterious free weeks which I always find out after its 3 or 4 days in and I watched those games.

Yesterday Pirates Beat Padres 9-1

Maybe they are playing great in a streak.

Astros fans saw the series as evidence Astros are a major flop this year.

They’ve scored 503 runs so far, 7th in all of baseball. Five more runs and they would be fourth.

FWIW

They beat up on 2 of the worst teams in baseball…

Game is in top of the fourth 2 outs

Runners on First (Berkman) and third (Bourn).

CArlso Lee almost got a run scorign hit (foul) before he struck out on a high pitch.

Scoring chance falls on Tejada’s shoulders.

The bus has a flat tire as Tejada strikes out on a high pitch!

That was about 3 feet or so from being a three run homer in the upper deck.

So Tejada seemed kind of energized by his All Star game performance. I take it that it has worn off.

Wandlicious

one run allowed in five innings & Wandy still looks strong.

Unfortunately Manny Parra is coasting. Parra doesn’t get the press he deserves. He’s not 9-2 by luck.

I’d say Wandy is my favorite Astro.

Even the Brewers annoucners

think the bunt was an “interesting “call (“it’s not like he’s going to hit into a double play”).

Another scoreless inning for Wandy

seemed like he threw a lot of pitches though

He's pitched well

Unfortunately the Astros can’t hit the ball when they have someone in scoring position… pretty sad we’re losing and have more than 2x as many hits as them.

2 on no outs!

Unfortunatly 8-9 coming up..

I have faith in Q… he’s gonna do something here(positive)

Bases juiced!

Q puts down a nice bunt! They go to 3rd and Wigginton is safe at 3rd.. I’m not sure they could have gotten Q out at 1st with the pitcher and catcher making the play.

Thee Berkman thrown out trying for a double. He looked out a mile but he argued the call.

On replay

The ball was there in plenty of time but the second baseman was slow in putting the tag down. Maybe Lance did beat it. but he’s out anyway.

Looked safe to me.

The tag came under the chest, between the hands, which were touching 2nd base.

Matsui THEN Bourn

seems to be working for those two…

Just noticed Wiggles is ahead of Pence.

Like he should be. I’d argue that he should be ahead of Tejada right now too.

Dark day for the NL central

All teams losing.. except one.. and that’s only because SOMEONE has to win this game. Of course, if it’s the Astros, I could do this every day. :p

Looks like I missed a good game.

Astros’ bat still weak, but Wandy comes through. Odd that all 3 Astros runs scored on plays which ended in outs.
