Hernadez coming into the game with a 5+ ERA

Maybe he can bring that down a little. :)

Oops. Nope.

Jeff Kent strikes again. Doubles in a run and the ERA is sitting at 6.35 and the Astros are already losing.

Jeff Kent RBI

He’s killing the Astros this series.

Not one to make us wait until he bats...

to make us think he still sucks.. Towles allows a passed ball. :)

So far this first inning isn't shaping up too well.

R. Hernandez seems shaky and broadcasters are making excuses for Towles, saying he must not be used to Hernandez’s pitches. But the Astros escape with only 1 run down.

Pence strikes out

without a single ball crossing the plate! He swung at three pitches that were BOTH low and outside.

Pence and Tejada need to get with it.

We can’t the people around Berkman and Lee be automatic outs.

Interesting Interview

Brad Ausmus’ two daughters are in the broadcast booth. They interviewed their dad who is in the dugout. They were prepared. Some good questions.

One of the girls, when asked if she worried about he dad being hurt, said she worried when she saw Quintero hurt last night.

I always liked Kent as an Astros player.

I wasn’t happy when Drayton wouldn’t come up with enough money to keep him in Houston in 2005.

and it comes back to bite Astros...

because it allows a squeeze bunt to bring a run home.

With 2 on and 1 out, Newhan is picked off 2d. And that may be a huge play.

It is a huge, deflating turn of events. Erstad doubled, but nobody scored without the runner on 2d. Then Bourn is the final out.

If you read my article about Astros' clutch hitting....

then you aren’t very surprised when Bourn ends that inning, leaving runners on 2d and 3d.

With Bork on the mound...

Tejada overruns an easy pop up which falls in for a hit.

So Quintero got hit with a bat aye?

I hope he doesn’t end up losing his spot because of this…

yes, Q on the DL with a concussion.

If Towles hits well while he is up, it will be an interesting decision when he comes off the DL. I’m not sure if Cooper or Wade subscribe to the principle that you can’t lose your job due to injury.

Blum

this game has been a real snoozer...
