Matsui leading off...

He hasn’t done well in the 1 hole, I believe.

and didn't do well tonight

to lead of the game, striking out on a pitch so abd the catcher could not handle it. (thown out at first)

Erstad is the everyday center fielder

if I heard Cecil Cooper correctly on the radio interview.

Makes perfect sense

But I guess they don’t think have anyone to call up from AAA who would be as useful as Bourn. From the sounds of it, they’re trying to make one last run before they pack it in.

Nice ones by Lance and Erstad..

but pretty much right at the fielders.

Batting over .300

Tejada!

First hit of the day.

by entropic soul on Jul 18, 2008 7:29 PM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Pence swings and misses at outside breaking pitch.

That is how he K’s so many times with 2 strikes. He knows it and said he would try to adjust in the second half….but…..

by clack on Jul 18, 2008 7:34 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Tejada to continue ASG hitting?

He gets a single, maybe it’s a start.

Sup Crawfish Boxers?

A good ol’ fashion sweep of the Cubbies would do this team a world of good.

That was about eye level.

by entropic soul on Jul 18, 2008 7:47 PM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Ugh. Towles looked bad on that swing.

Bourn has to ask: if I’m sitting, why is Towles playing?

Towles needs to pick it up if he wants to stay on the ML roster when Q gets through with his rehab starts.

Finally leaves the NL central and like some curse he comes back.

The explanation I heard that sounds possible was that he was on a medication that he started when he had a concussion and that his turnaround coincided with him going off that medication.

Pence safe on infield single.

Kris Brown, the Texans kicker, is interviewed in the stands. Says he is at the game to watch Darin Erstad who was a Nebraska punter and struck up a friending with Brown.

I'm just glad they signed him.

On draft day, I was slightly miffed because it didn’t seem like the best available player. (Actually I was pulling for Lawrie, who the Brewers drafted.) However, I think he is an OK pick. Probably will turn out to be a solid ML player.

disappointed

it wasn’t what we were looking for from a fan perspective, after blowing the last draft so spectacularly, and the team mgmt really hadn’t earned much of a right to say “trust us, we know what we’re doing.”

I’m glad they at least signed him, and there are a couple other picks that seem ok.

overall it just seemed like a weird move for a team that was going to be committed to rebuilding from within.

by lnewcomer on Jul 18, 2008 8:49 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I may be wrong

but it seemed to me Astros have drafted catchers in the first round a lot the last few years (not counting last year when the had no first round pick) – and so far none have panned out

Castro makes the third one we’ve drafted pretty high in the past few years.

Sapp, and another one w/ a long name.

at the midpoint of this season

I’d say the Tejada trade was better for the Orioles than us (even given Albers and Patton being injured).

An OF of Lee-Pence-Scott would almost certainly have better production than the current config. And while Miggy was great for about 2 months, the other 2 months he was basically Adam Everett.

I think Stephen Colbert should put Ed Wade and the Astros managment on notice.
