and didn't do well tonight
to lead of the game, striking out on a pitch so abd the catcher could not handle it. (thown out at first)

Erstad is the everyday center fielder
if I heard Cecil Cooper correctly on the radio interview.

Shouldn't Bourn be in AAA then?
To work on his swing?
by entropic soul on Jul 18, 2008 7:21 PM CDT up reply actions
Makes perfect sense
But I guess they don’t think have anyone to call up from AAA who would be as useful as Bourn. From the sounds of it, they’re trying to make one last run before they pack it in.
i suppose it's not even worth
complaiing about carlos lack of hustle. it’s just carlos being carlos. that’s depressing.
Batting over .300
Second in the league in RBIs… 20+ home runs.

Wiggy never bats with people on base
Cause Pence is always in front of him. :p

Pence swings and misses at outside breaking pitch.
That is how he K’s so many times with 2 strikes. He knows it and said he would try to adjust in the second half….but…..
I'm still bitter about his doing jack shit in the ASG.
Him and Soto.

And we all know...
Carlos Lee is dedicated to driving in runs. :p

Sup Crawfish Boxers?
A good ol’ fashion sweep of the Cubbies would do this team a world of good.

Towles just struck out on a ball...
That was about eye level.
..............
...............
........
Ugh. Towles looked bad on that swing.
Bourn has to ask: if I’m sitting, why is Towles playing?
Towles needs to pick it up if he wants to stay on the ML roster when Q gets through with his rehab starts.
Matsui triple
with two outs

Brian Moehler
showing why I thought he deserved an A or A- in the pitcher grades earlier today.

he'll probably get out of the wheelchair and make some incredible catch..
before it’s all over. Hard to explain.
The explanation I heard that sounds possible was that he was on a medication that he started when he had a concussion and that his turnaround coincided with him going off that medication.
or playing against the Astros

Pence safe on infield single.
Kris Brown, the Texans kicker, is interviewed in the stands. Says he is at the game to watch Darin Erstad who was a Nebraska punter and struck up a friending with Brown.
Anyone else listening to the game?
Milo Hamilton just went Confucious on his last call… He who hesitates on chopper by Pences lose.
I feel enlightend.

Pence
must be among the leaders in CS? That’s how it feels anyway.
The Brewers drafted Pence in 2002
Wish we would have signed him.
BCB's "very own marginally deserving all-star!"
Didn't realize how poor his numbers were this year
.263/.304/.429, 92 OPS+
BCB's "very own marginally deserving all-star!"
he had a horrible June...hitting something like .200 since June started.
Pence got his OPS near .900 in May, but he has been streaky.
Hey everybody
I’m a Brew Crew Ball interloper, and big Astros fan for the next couple days.

Are you folks happy
the Seligs no longer own the Brewers?

Shooter Hunt
http://www.baseballmusings.com/archives/027923.php
guy started his rookie league career w/ 28 K’s in 14 innnings.
I really wanted the Brewers to draft him
Fell a bit because of injury concerns.
BCB's "very own marginally deserving all-star!"
The Brewers also drafted Cutter (Dykstra) and Maverick (Lasker), so Shooter would have fit right in
BCB's "very own marginally deserving all-star!"
Speaking of, how did you feel about (over)drafting Jason Castro?
BCB's "very own marginally deserving all-star!"
I'm just glad they signed him.
On draft day, I was slightly miffed because it didn’t seem like the best available player. (Actually I was pulling for Lawrie, who the Brewers drafted.) However, I think he is an OK pick. Probably will turn out to be a solid ML player.
disappointed
it wasn’t what we were looking for from a fan perspective, after blowing the last draft so spectacularly, and the team mgmt really hadn’t earned much of a right to say “trust us, we know what we’re doing.”
I’m glad they at least signed him, and there are a couple other picks that seem ok.
overall it just seemed like a weird move for a team that was going to be committed to rebuilding from within.
I may be wrong
but it seemed to me Astros have drafted catchers in the first round a lot the last few years (not counting last year when the had no first round pick) – and so far none have panned out

not sure about first round
Castro makes the third one we’ve drafted pretty high in the past few years.
Sapp, and another one w/ a long name.
Astros first-round picks. Yeah, Castro in ‘94 and Sapp a couple years ago.
BCB's "very own marginally deserving all-star!"
Brenley babbling about how Cecil should have Pence bunt
and a second later, he hits a liner for a single
I wonder if
Cooper has the confidence to move runners over to second and third to get Towles to drive Miggy in with a sac fly.
That even sounds unlikely.
Blum walks....bases loaded.
I’m not optimistic about scoring here. But I actually feel better with Matsui hitting, than Blum. He can be crafty with the bat.
Moehler deservres a win guys
Score one more run (at least)

at the midpoint of this season
I’d say the Tejada trade was better for the Orioles than us (even given Albers and Patton being injured).
An OF of Lee-Pence-Scott would almost certainly have better production than the current config. And while Miggy was great for about 2 months, the other 2 months he was basically Adam Everett.
I think Stephen Colbert should put Ed Wade and the Astros managment on notice.
Geary is the
King of Hearts tonight!

Optimism of Astros fans is not dampened
almost half think we’ll win at least 40 more games this year
how 'bout a walkoff HR from Miggy
to start off the 2nd half. he had one the first week of the season didn’t he?
he gave it a shot
at first I thought double, but then for a half second it seemed like it might hang up.
dropped for a ground rule double.
good start.
I thought that was a homer for a second

You know what's great about a walk-off double?
You don’t have to worry about whether the bullpen will be able to protect it.
