Strike out!

Wandy 1, Cardinals Hitters 0

by entropic soul on Jun 8, 2008 1:08 PM CDT reply actions

wigginton has no range

either left or right. if you hit it within 3 feet of him on either side, he’s ok. otherwise, single.

by lnewcomer on Jun 8, 2008 1:28 PM CDT reply actions

Would have been nice

If we could have scored one of our three baserunners….

by entropic soul on Jun 8, 2008 1:48 PM CDT reply actions

way to go hunter

that’s the way to make ‘em pay

by lnewcomer on Jun 8, 2008 1:50 PM CDT reply actions

WOW!

damn, talk about a bomb.

that was way out. no doubter.

cool

by lnewcomer on Jun 8, 2008 1:56 PM CDT reply actions

I love how Puma can hit a HR

and just drop his bat quietly w/o trying to act like such a cocky bastard

by lnewcomer on Jun 8, 2008 1:58 PM CDT up reply actions

NICE HR

He’s been slacking a little bit on the HR and RBIs… well, for an MVP. :p

by entropic soul on Jun 8, 2008 2:00 PM CDT reply actions

I know.

He’s not even first in any of the main three NL offensive categories.
Coop needs to have a talk with him.

by entropic soul on Jun 8, 2008 2:08 PM CDT up reply actions

maybe sit him for a day

let him think about what he’s done.

by lnewcomer on Jun 8, 2008 2:10 PM CDT up reply actions

I like how Wandy came back out that inning

got a three run lead and has a nice easy inning.

by lnewcomer on Jun 8, 2008 2:05 PM CDT reply actions

Hamilton w/ 69 RBI

he was only about 10 ahead of berkman before we had that disastrous road trip, now he’s 21 ahead. some hitter.

by lnewcomer on Jun 8, 2008 2:21 PM CDT up reply actions

Yeah.

See, Berkman is slacking. :p

by entropic soul on Jun 8, 2008 2:23 PM CDT up reply actions

so assuming he catches up in the next couple starts

and maintains roughly the same ERA, he’ll be in the top 3?

by lnewcomer on Jun 8, 2008 2:38 PM CDT up reply actions

obviously depends on what the ERA is...

there are a number of starters in the 2-ish ERA range. Volquez leads with a sub-2 ERA. Lincecum is 2d with 2.15 and Webb is 3d with 2.53.

by clack on Jun 8, 2008 2:46 PM CDT up reply actions

Funfact

Matsui is hitting .293 away from home this year. :)

by entropic soul on Jun 8, 2008 2:25 PM CDT reply actions

OK lance

let’s not get too cute. i guess it would have been a better idea if he hadn’t popped it up. and it would have made that shift look pretty dumb

by lnewcomer on Jun 8, 2008 2:30 PM CDT reply actions

Berkman bunted?

and popped out?

Astros fan for life

by Joe in Birmingham on Jun 8, 2008 2:31 PM CDT reply actions

trying to show off his multi-faceted game

beat you with a bomb. beat you with speed. lance berkman cannot be stopped.

by lnewcomer on Jun 8, 2008 2:32 PM CDT up reply actions

Cooper lavished praise on Berkman when he bunted last week....

saying “that’s a baseball player’s play,” maybe he is trying to become the teacherr’s pet. However, I liked Berkman’s bunt last week better because he led off the 9th, down by 4.

by clack on Jun 8, 2008 2:33 PM CDT up reply actions

it's ok wandy

don’t let it get to you. that guy was just desperate to get on so he leaned into one.

by lnewcomer on Jun 8, 2008 2:36 PM CDT reply actions

HOLY HELL!

That has to be the worst error I’ve seen in ages

Go 'Stros!

by Stros Bro on Jun 8, 2008 2:37 PM CDT reply actions

agreed

i think he actually had it in his hand, before he dropped it.

by lnewcomer on Jun 8, 2008 2:39 PM CDT up reply actions

Why is the pitching coach out there?

Wandy isn’t the reason bases are loaded… unless he’s saying, this is not your fault

Go 'Stros!

by Stros Bro on Jun 8, 2008 2:39 PM CDT reply actions

wonder if it was more of a mental thing

remember wandy used to have a problem w/ letting bad breaks get into his head.

last year and this year he seemed to get a better handle it, but I don’t think it was a bad visit.

by lnewcomer on Jun 8, 2008 2:41 PM CDT up reply actions

Now 3-1

That run should be unearned

Go 'Stros!

by Stros Bro on Jun 8, 2008 2:41 PM CDT reply actions

I realize that anyone can hit anybody at any time

but at this critical point in the game, the best PH option they have is Izturis? bench is thin w/ ankiel being hurt.

now that i have jinxed us …

by lnewcomer on Jun 8, 2008 2:43 PM CDT reply actions

"Anyone can hit anybody at any time"

Wandy has hit 2 people thie inning…

Go 'Stros!

by Stros Bro on Jun 8, 2008 2:44 PM CDT up reply actions

yep

wasn’t exactly the way i envisioned it. baseball is a funny game

by lnewcomer on Jun 8, 2008 2:45 PM CDT up reply actions

lol

wow, those are two of the easiest HBP in baseball history

sometimes, you just get unlucky

by lnewcomer on Jun 8, 2008 2:45 PM CDT up reply actions

Come on Wandy!!!!

You can do it!

Astros fan for life

by Joe in Birmingham on Jun 8, 2008 2:46 PM CDT reply actions

crap

more bad luck.

catches the lip of the plate and jumps up and over brad. geez. wandy shouldn’t buy lotto tickets today.

unraveled is the right word

I think Bourn just missed it. there was some confusion about who called it, but it looked like Pence gave way and Bourn had a bead on it and then just whiffed

by lnewcomer on Jun 8, 2008 2:55 PM CDT reply actions

Bourn back to AAA right now.

Coop. stop the game. Walk out there and tell Bourn he’s going back to AAA where he can relearn how to play baseball.

by entropic soul on Jun 8, 2008 2:56 PM CDT up reply actions

merciful zeus

that was a long, strange, depressing and disgusting inning. glad it’s over.

time to take a shot at the cardinal bullpen

by lnewcomer on Jun 8, 2008 2:59 PM CDT reply actions

brocail wasn't happy

see him throw his glove into the dugout?

if I was MBourn, i would stay as far at the other end of the dugout from Brocail as I could.

by lnewcomer on Jun 8, 2008 3:01 PM CDT reply actions

Bourn + Wiggy = worthless

Pence was the right-handed Ted Williams in 2007.

by backstop8 on Jun 8, 2008 3:01 PM CDT reply actions

at least bourn busted his ass

getting down the line.

drag bunt down first and dodged pujols to make it safe.

by lnewcomer on Jun 8, 2008 3:02 PM CDT reply actions

isn't his real name something completely different?

he “borrowed” some other kid’s name to be younger

by lnewcomer on Jun 8, 2008 3:06 PM CDT up reply actions

Eny Cabreja

I think his real name is actually Wandy though

Go 'Stros!

by Stros Bro on Jun 8, 2008 3:08 PM CDT up reply actions

Eny Cabreja was a pitcher in the Astros minor league system who was from the Dominican Republic. When the Astros called him in 2003 to invite him to spring training, they discovered that Eny Cabreja didn’t exist. Now, Cabreja did make it to camp, only he came as Wandy Rodriguez, who confessed to using the fake name for reasons which have, as far as I know, never become public

From here

Double for Ausmus!

Scores Bourn from 1st easily

Go 'Stros!

by Stros Bro on Jun 8, 2008 3:06 PM CDT reply actions

Bradley J. Ausmus

once a year you come thru in a big spot. thank you for making that day today.

the wild pitch wasn’t your fault, but you got it back then.

by lnewcomer on Jun 8, 2008 3:06 PM CDT reply actions

I think I asked yesterday about Matsui and big hits

now would be another opportune time for a knock. prob needs to be a double to get Turtle home from 2nd though.

by lnewcomer on Jun 8, 2008 3:11 PM CDT reply actions

How many times are we getting in scoring position

with no outs and not cashing in?
Seems like a lot in the last few days.

by entropic soul on Jun 8, 2008 3:14 PM CDT up reply actions

Ausmus has a beer with hot young chicks.

I don’t know what context this picture was taken in.. but here you go:

lol

I can’t exactly describe the expression on his face

funny

by lnewcomer on Jun 8, 2008 3:14 PM CDT up reply actions

Umm..

too old to be his daughters

Go 'Stros!

by Stros Bro on Jun 8, 2008 3:14 PM CDT up reply actions

Tejada out.

I think his batting average has plummeted to under .300.. or there about.

by entropic soul on Jun 8, 2008 3:25 PM CDT reply actions

that's not good

berkman stopped running a few steps out of the box. something leg related. would have been out anyway, but still.

by lnewcomer on Jun 8, 2008 3:27 PM CDT up reply actions

Carlos Lee

you have been absolutely useless for several weeks now. time to start earning your keep.

by lnewcomer on Jun 8, 2008 3:28 PM CDT reply actions

He almost just hit a home run..

1 foot higher and this is a tie game.

Go 'Stros!

by Stros Bro on Jun 8, 2008 3:30 PM CDT up reply actions

Another almost home run...

High single off the Crawford Boxes wall.

by entropic soul on Jun 8, 2008 3:31 PM CDT up reply actions

i believe we have a consensus

let it be so recorded. carlos lee was almost a hero today.

by lnewcomer on Jun 8, 2008 3:32 PM CDT up reply actions

nice try

a long single. missed it by about 3 feet. damn. no luck for any astro today.

by lnewcomer on Jun 8, 2008 3:31 PM CDT up reply actions

They should call it a home run

Since the umpires stole Bourn’s home run yesterday. :)

by entropic soul on Jun 8, 2008 3:32 PM CDT up reply actions

Oh so close. Stupid dropped ball! >:(

by mokulen on Jun 8, 2008 3:33 PM CDT up reply actions

JD is right

Cards RF made a mistake and thew it to 2nd instead of cutoff man. Can’t blame Romero, but Abercrombie would have scored if he’d been sent. bad luck continues.

by lnewcomer on Jun 8, 2008 3:35 PM CDT up reply actions

I had to run some errands and listened on the radio....

The radio guys had a fit about the 3d base coach putting the stop sign up for Abercrombie. They made a good point that if you are going to take Lee out of the game in order to use Abercrombie’s speed, why wouldn’t you send him? If you’re not going to send one of the team’s fastest runners in that situation, why even worry about pinch running for Lee? Mather apparently thought that his chances of getting a play at the plate were so bad that he fielded and threw the ball nonchalantly.

by clack on Jun 8, 2008 4:07 PM CDT up reply actions

yep

one of three big What Ifs today. no way we should have lost this game. no one to blame but ourselves.

by lnewcomer on Jun 8, 2008 4:08 PM CDT up reply actions

Should have sent Abercrombie

2 outs anyways.. worth the shot

Go 'Stros!

by Stros Bro on Jun 8, 2008 3:35 PM CDT reply actions

you're right

was just thinking that after seeing it was bourn up next. in that situation, the call is to send him and make them make a play. that RF has only been up a week, fielded it on warning track. try his arm.

crap.

bad luck, but we’re not doing anything to deserve good luck of our own. errors and mental mistakes.

by lnewcomer on Jun 8, 2008 3:37 PM CDT up reply actions

why didn't they pinch hit for bourn?

isn’t blum still on the bench?

by TimStros on Jun 8, 2008 3:46 PM CDT up reply actions

good question

i think he must be. when brocail came on there was a double switch, w/ loretta replacing wigginton.

don’t remember any other moves.

abercrombie was on base, so we would have moved erstad to LF and abercrombie to CF. should have worked.

coop is prob just now figuring that out.

by lnewcomer on Jun 8, 2008 3:48 PM CDT up reply actions

that pissed me off

sorry so late of a response but stil…

When Bourn who can’t hit lefties to begin with comes up with a super important at bat against Flores who is basically a left specialist with that sweeping slider that all lefty specialists use you HAVE TO PINCH HIT IF YOU HAVE BLUMB ON THE BENCH!!!!! I mean c’mon!!!!! The only way you don’t is if you think that Bourn is a huge advantage and you want to keep him in the outfield for defensive purposes(and that is such a huge stretch that if you are thinking that then you are a fricking idiot) and then to top it off Bourn is removed in the bottom half of the inning. WTF! I think Cooper should be fired.

he's way off today

Astros.com had a story about a little limp he had. maybe hurt worse than he said.

by lnewcomer on Jun 8, 2008 3:46 PM CDT up reply actions

Who, Valverde?

Well, then it’s bum leg vs bum leg. Should make it even. :p

by entropic soul on Jun 8, 2008 3:48 PM CDT up reply actions

valverde just wants to make it even more difficult

two walks and now pujols up.

at this point it doesn’t matter. let him hit. we don’t deserve to win after our crappy play today

by lnewcomer on Jun 8, 2008 3:44 PM CDT reply actions

Cute Commercial

brad out.............

.................

And Loretta used up all of his singles on Friday.

by entropic soul on Jun 8, 2008 3:53 PM CDT reply actions

oh that hurts Brownie

points out that cards have 4 hits today, all singles.

5 runs. whole team should be flogged.

by lnewcomer on Jun 8, 2008 3:56 PM CDT reply actions

damn damn damn damn damn

i hate the cardinals

and today the astros aren’t really on my good list

by lnewcomer on Jun 8, 2008 3:57 PM CDT reply actions

lost all 4 series to cards this year

all 4, won the first, lost last two. just pathetic

by lnewcomer on Jun 8, 2008 4:02 PM CDT up reply actions

hard to follow espn gamecast

did we tie the game and going to extra innings. stuck at work and trying to follow along with you guys and gamecast from espn. it still has us down 5 – 4 and the 9th just finshed

by kcc28 on Jun 8, 2008 4:02 PM CDT reply actions

nope

people on the card thread were complaining gamecast on both mlb and espn was wrong and stuck.

bot 8th, abercrombie on first, 2 out. Erstad doubles hard to RF wall, Abercrombie is stopped at 3rd base. I think the gamecast said he scored and tied the game, but that’s wrong. he was at 3rd and it was still 5-4.

instead, next batter Bourn flied out to CF. 3 out.
