J.R. Towles update

hadn't heard too much lately about Towles, so I thought I'd check in on his Round Rock stats and post them up here. not too bad - not too great - but the average is quite better than the non-average earlier this season with the Astros, and a good SLG and OBP.

AVG: .275

OBP: .393

SLG: .510

AB: 51

H: 14

R: 12

2B: 3

HR: 3

RBI: 9

SB: 3

E: 1

Towles

I live in Austin and went to the Express game last night
they won, but it is a very terrible team to watch
towles is the only thing close to being a prospect on that team, besides maybe johny ash, but he is not hitting at all

J.R. hit a homer last night and is looking solid defensivly
Humberto is a much better defensive player and comparable hitting-wise

You also might look at strike outs.

Cooper clearly was unhappy with Towles’ proclivity for strike outs in his last month or so. His Round Rock strike out rate is still high (16.1%) but it is lower than his strike out rate at the ML level (21%). Overall, you have to like a .900 OPS by a catcher in AAA.

patience....

Give him some real time behind the plate down there….Its a 15 games sample against pitchers that have never faced him before. If he still has these numbers at 150 AB’s im for the idea of bringign him up, but lets let him work on hitting well in AAA for a month or so more first

maybe...

Depends on how Quintero is doing… we know Ausmus isn’t going down or being released and Quintero is doing enough to keep him on the roster at least… especially on the defensive side of things… If Towles is hitting .275 in AAA and Quintero is hitting .250 with the Astros, then I see no need to bring Towles up…

Go 'Stros!

not that i'm advocating

he come right back up, but a .903 OPS is pretty damned good.

Q’s been playing fairly well, so i don’t think there’s much urgency. i’d give it at least until after the all-star break before really wondering whether or not it’s time for him to return.

Towles hit another HR today

3 consecutive days HR.

SO is an issue, but he could draw walks or…. some HBP to get on base which Q can’t.
He should be a better bater than Q eventually.

Well he is coming back now

Like it or not.
Anybody think Towles paid off that guy to bust Q on the head because he was tired of carrying his own bags in AAA?
Good luck to him being back with the big boys.

My friends suggested I see someone about my baseball problem. So I made an appointment but just ended up helping the doctor with his fantasy team.
