My Apologies to Wandy

In the past, I have been a big "hater" when it comes to Wandy Rodriguez... I've always said that he doesn't have good enough stuff, or good enough location to be a big league pitcher... well...  I think I was wrong and I'm jumping on the bandwagon.

Wandy has turned into a pretty decent pitcher.  He still needs to bring his away stats somewhere in the ballpark of his home stats... but I think he's turned the corner and can continue to be a good, productive pitcher for the Astros for years to come...  especially if the Astros continue to give him 7 run leads to work with.

Not counting today's start....

Wandy’s away ERA this year is 3.80 in 4 starts. I’d take that from a starter OVERALL anyday. And his home ERA is 2.10 in 5 starts. (Below 2.00, I’d bet, after today’s game.) His current ERA (2.58) with 51 strike outs in 10 starts. That’s Ace quality, my friend. Will he keep it up? Who knows. But glad to have you aboard the Wandy bandwagon. Even if you are a little late. :p

Told Ya So.

Wandy’s now eighth all-time on the club’s win list for lefties, two behind Joe Sambito and four behind Andy Pettitte.

Wandy Power! means not having to pitch a sorry game in the wake of the Chacon bullshit.

Last year, after Rastro had a nice Wandy article...

I suggested that Wandy reminded me of Jim Deshais. They both were capable of shutdown games every so often. Neither one could be viewed as an ace, but they both were very capable. My comparison was based on the fact that both were lefthanders with deceptive 89/90 mph fastballs who could still rack up Ks. However, I don’t recall Deshais having as good a curveball as Wandy. Wandy’s curveball is very good, and if he can get strikes with it, he will give any team fits.
