Coop has plan for 93 wins
Astros manager Cecil Cooper scribbles on a scrap piece of paper and does some elementary math. He's certain his team will have a big second half and is trying to determine what it will take to get to 93 wins.Cooper comes to the conclusion the Astros could go roughly 45-22 after the All-Star break and hit the finish line of the regular season at 93 wins. Poof. Right where they want to be.

I heard about this earlier today
and it has about as much meaning as me declaring that the Astros are going to win the world series…

wow
There’s pie in the sky, and then there’s ending the season with 93 wins.
I was thinking low eighties myself, and I thought I was being overly optimistic.

We'd have to go 8-3 in the next 11 games...
For that record to work.
Or 53-25 from today onward.
Which is a winning percentage of .679
Or win 2 out of every three games with an extra win here and there.

we did have a stretch
from April 20th through May 24th, where we went 23-10, which is a .697 winning percentage. a stretch like that right now would put us at 65-60 with 37 games to go. from there, we’d just have to go 28-9 (.757) to get to 93 wins. .697 from now to the end of the season would put us at 90 wins.
none of these things are going to happen though. i just hope we continue to compete, the young guys actually show some progress, a pitcher or two not named Roy Oswalt end up looking like they’re worth keeping around next year… pretty much it’s small victories from here on out.
