Rangers Pitching is worse than Astros Pitching

Rangers Hitting is better than Astros Hitting

Ingredients for a high scoring series.

I don't have any AL favorites ...

So when filling out All-star ballots, I’ve ended up with as many as 4 freakin’ Rangers on my ballot . I think the last ones, I’ve just gone with the safe choice at ss, but that still left me with 3 Rangers …

by mokulen on Jun 24, 2008 7:04 PM CDT up reply actions

I put Jeter at ss

in my last ballots. I felt really guilty about that … :( Not a lot to choose from … Maybe if I fill out any more I’ll go back to Young. He certainly likes to hit against the Astros

Lead off double for the Rangers

That was nearly a home run….

I imagine that run will score.

by entropic soul on Jun 24, 2008 7:09 PM CDT reply actions

It's Puma time

3-6-3 double play from Hamilton.

by entropic soul on Jun 24, 2008 7:14 PM CDT reply actions

Lee flies out.

Pence grounds out.

And Berkman has not moved a step.

I’m reading here about a minute before I see it on MLB.TV

Yeah..

that happens to me when I listen to the radio online. I try to look away during rallies and such. :)

Orioles & Cubs on WGN

Surprisingly Luke is starting. He’s hitting around .200 against lefties.

by mokulen on Jun 24, 2008 7:43 PM CDT reply actions

Bourn had a good AB

7 or 8 pitches and worked a walk

by lnewcomer on Jun 24, 2008 7:46 PM CDT reply actions

Bourn caught stealing.

And Loretta backs that up with a double.

by entropic soul on Jun 24, 2008 7:49 PM CDT reply actions

Bourn caught stealing

a few pitches before Mark Loretta doubles

He gets caught too much

I thought he was supposed to be fast.

The Unofficial Scorer over at the Chron

has the Astros at 14 successes out of their last 28 attempts in stolen bases. I think for the season we’re at barely over 70%, but that number has been dropping.

Since it seems unlikely that all our guys were lucky early and are not lately, this seems like more of a coaching/scouting problem. Coop has rescinded the green light for all but three players, but we have some work to do.

by lnewcomer on Jun 24, 2008 8:14 PM CDT up reply actions

Moehler strong through 4

see. i told you he was gonna be good. :p

by entropic soul on Jun 24, 2008 8:01 PM CDT reply actions

wonder if Hamilton was hurt on that dive

on Loretta’s double? when he was leaving the field after that inning he took off his glove and seemed to be shaking his glove hand.

by lnewcomer on Jun 24, 2008 8:21 PM CDT reply actions

Ranger Fans

Think their hit parade against Moehler in late innings is some kind of special achievement.

by pel on Jun 24, 2008 8:36 PM CDT up reply actions

Don't Apologize for Moehler :)

But I’m grateful he hasn’t totally tanked like I was afraid of.

He’s gutted quite a few decent starts.

Juice Box

Do they have cup holders in the seats at Minute Maid? I’ve always sat in the first row of each section when I’ve been, so I don’t even know.

Somebody’s asking over at LSB.

by pel on Jun 24, 2008 8:44 PM CDT reply actions

yep

even in the upper deck where we had seats last weekend.

man, wiggy gave that one a ride

nice play by byrd on the back to the infield catch

his good outings are sneaky

nothing you see really seems all that impressive, but then he leaves the game having given up only a couple of runs. it’s strange.

That's how ol' Rog was pitching there towards the end

fast game tonight

almost thru 8 inn. already. maybe I just haven’t been paying attention.

by lnewcomer on Jun 24, 2008 9:18 PM CDT reply actions

not sure if that was catchable or not

but Bourn didn’t seem to get a good read on it. froze at first.

by lnewcomer on Jun 24, 2008 9:29 PM CDT reply actions

that last pitch to byrd

had some wicked late movement on it. don’t think he got any of it.

by lnewcomer on Jun 24, 2008 9:33 PM CDT up reply actions

Q dropped a couple pitches

but we still get the K to end the threat.

by lnewcomer on Jun 24, 2008 9:30 PM CDT reply actions

Byrd may have foul-tipped that last pitch

Q didn’t hang on, but we got the out call anyway. It was really hard to tell, but the ump didn’t hesitate. Byrd seemed to think he got a piece of it though, or at least acted like he did.

by lnewcomer on Jun 24, 2008 9:32 PM CDT up reply actions

leadoff walk to Miggy and Berkman cranks one into our bullpen for a 2 run HR.

looked like the throw actually got to 2nd ahead of lee

but all the rangers were playing it casual. still he crushed that ball.

by lnewcomer on Jun 24, 2008 9:38 PM CDT reply actions

Abercrombie??

not sure what he was thinking. he paused, but then, while the ball was still in the air, just kept going to third.

inning over.

by lnewcomer on Jun 24, 2008 9:46 PM CDT reply actions

not that I remember

in that disastrous Wandy game vs. the cardinals a couple weeks ago the 3B coach held him up at 3rd on an Erstad double where he would almost certainly have scored the tying run.

by lnewcomer on Jun 24, 2008 9:48 PM CDT up reply actions

valverde making it exciting

Vazquez goes yard after a walk. 4-3 lead stros. 1 out, nobody on.

by lnewcomer on Jun 24, 2008 9:52 PM CDT reply actions

Didn't look like that bad a pitch.

What’s up with this vazquez guy? What did the Astros ever do to him to make him mad? He is a mediocre utility player who hits Houston pitching like he is Babe Ruth. He hits the Astros for over a .400 average in his career, and he has 4 HRs in just a handful of at bats.

by clack on Jun 25, 2008 7:28 AM CDT up reply actions

uh oh

4-3 now…

Go 'Stros!

by Stros Bro on Jun 24, 2008 9:52 PM CDT reply actions

wonder what his ERA is for the past week

at least 1 BS and 1 L, plus several runs allowed. he seems to have bad focus.

by lnewcomer on Jun 24, 2008 9:54 PM CDT up reply actions

wow.

Well… let him get it out of his system.

Let’s see him get the next two.

Game over - Astros win

Valverde must have forgotten the 2 run home run he gave up, because he’s trying to act like a badass behind the mound.

Go 'Stros!

by Stros Bro on Jun 24, 2008 9:59 PM CDT reply actions

Pretty Soon

He’ll be mouthing that Lidge stuff:

“I don’t care about my ERA as long as I get the save.”

by pel on Jun 24, 2008 10:01 PM CDT up reply actions

The only pitchers who say that are...

the pitchers with high ERA’s :)

Go 'Stros!

by Stros Bro on Jun 24, 2008 10:02 PM CDT up reply actions

do you care

about the ERA, so long as he gets the saves?

i don’t.

by littlevisigoth on Jun 25, 2008 10:23 AM CDT up reply actions

Well

The problem is, as with Lidge, blowing saves is usually not far behind an ever-rising ERA. These things don’t happen in a vacuum, after all.

Jose Lima

How would you compare his antics to Jose Limas?

only Lima could sing! :)

Go 'Stros!

by Stros Bro on Jun 24, 2008 10:02 PM CDT up reply actions

I think Lima was worse

he would do it throughout the inning. It seems like Valverde at least seems to save it for after he gets the final out.

also, Valverde can actually pitch a little.

by lnewcomer on Jun 24, 2008 10:04 PM CDT up reply actions

He’s pitching for a Korean baseball team.

40k and change at the game

pretty good atmosphere for a Tuesday night.

watched sportscenter after i got home, and the guy doing the highlight said some things that were just flat out wrong (said Astros had dropped 5 straight and that Hamilton was PH for by Boggs)... just sloppy. posting on a blog that ESPN sucks is like saying the sky is blue, but biases are one thing, gross errors in reporting are another. also, during the D-Backs/BoSox highlight, they referred to Qualls as a former Round Rock Express star. that also annoyed me. RR was the AA team when he played for them, and frankly, he wasn’t that good. just a weak jab at a pretty good pitcher.

anyway, good win last night. pitching matchups should be favorable the rest of the series (assuming we get good Roy and home Wandy). go Astros!
