Oswalt Back?
Very impressive night for Roy Oswalt tonight; by far his best outing of the year. What a dominant performance put forth by Roy-O. 7 innings of 5 hit, 1 run ball is pretty impressive, but then add in the 10 k's and 0 walks and it really makes you feel like he may be turning a corner. Roy has mentioned time after time that he pitches to contact in an attempt to get deeper into games and keep his pitch count down. Well, tonight he threw 99 pitches and made it through 7 innings and only gave up 1 run. Doesn't seem like the 10 strike outs really hurt his pitch count too much. 100 pitches over 7 innings isn't too bad and puts the Astros just where they want to be... especially when you hold the other team to just 1 run.
Unfortunately I didn't get to watch the game tonight. Work kept me away from most of the game and I caught the last few innings on the radio on my way home, so I missed getting to actually watch Roy be dominant... but hopefully I'll get to see some more of that in his next game.

his postgame interview
he indicated that he is moving back away from the pitch to contact philosophy. said something like when he first came up, he was a power pitcher (thru ‘03) and then he tried to focus on pitching deep in games but this year he’s going back to being a power pitcher.
also, as pointed out at the end of the game thread, Lance Berkman is taking credit for the improvement as well, b/c he stood in the batters box during some of his bullpen sessions and offered helpful tips.
tonight was the most dominant of any games I’ve watched this year, especially after the first couple of innings. he got better command of his fastball and that seemed to make the curve more effective. The Brewers are a pretty high strikeout team, but they have good hitters. He made a lot of guys miss and on the strikeouts where they were caught looking he was freezing them with a pitch they weren’t ready for.

I have felt that Oswalt was "back" for the previous two games...
before this one. Obviously, last night’s game was dominant, but he pitched well in the prior 3-2 and 5-3 losses; in the latter 5-3 loss to the Pirates, Oswalt was hurt by horrible defense (errors and a botched rundown)... and should have won if he had gotten some help from his teammates. I was hopeful that those two games would be the start of a return to form by Roy, and that looks to be the case.

The Ryan Braun K
In the 6th was a vintage Roy O FU 95 mph four seamer on the inside that always made him so dominant. The complete attitude of ‘here is my best pitch hit it if you can’ is great to see. Roy has always one to get better as the game goes along and can gear up a pitch like that late if he needs to. I want to see a few more starts to find out if he is back to being the stud he has been for so long. He was so consistently great for the Astros since he came up that this season has been a head scratcher to say the least.
My friends suggested I see someone about my baseball problem. So I made an appointment but just ended up helping the doctor with his fantasy team.
