Houston Astros at Milwaukee Brewers, 1:05 PM CDT
Houston Astros at Milwaukee Brewers, Jun 1, 2008 1:05 PM CDT
The Astros have now lost 4 straight and are trying to find themselves back in 4th place in the NL Central. With their current losing streak and the Cubs inability to lose(won 6 straight), the Astros find themselves 5.5 games back in the division and losing ground. Today could be the turn around point as the Astros face struggling Dave Bush who has won just 1 of his 9 games started this season. Last time out, Bush went 7 full innings against the Braves and only gave up 2 runs, but was unable to gain a decision as the Brewers failed to score any runs until after Bush had left the game.
The Astros are sending Shawn Chacon to the hill who is coming a similar outing in which he also went 7 full innings and gave up only 2 runs... but he was backed by some Astros offense as he earned the win as the Astros beat the Cardinals 8-2. Unfortunately... that win was the last time the Astros added to the W column.
Astros bats slumping, notables over the last 7 days
- Matsui, .222 avg, 2 R, 0 RBI and 0 XBH
- Lee, .217 avg, 3 R, 7 RBI
- Tejada, .154 avg, 3 R, 2 RBI
- Bourn, .096 avg, 2 R, 4 K
- Towles, .091, 1 hit, 2 RBI

Lots of Home Runs today?
As I mentioned in the Bean Count article, Chacon and Bush have both given up 12 HRs and were tied at 7th most in the NL . Bush has a history of pitching well against the Astros. His career ERA against Houston is 3.45.
hart with grounder to shortstop, safe oon bang-bang play.
1-1 game. Tejada’s throw could have been better. Replay shows that he should be out.
Oh, I see.
He doesn’t. Unless the umpires fuck up.

Braun is fast and Tejada took way too much time nn that play.
routine grounder should have been out. I don’t know if Berkman running off the field after the catch may have allowed Braun to score….I couldn’t see it.
apparently the answer to my sentence above is "yes,"
Braun was able to score because Berkman was running off the field, thinking he had an out. I think Chacon got very frustrated and let that affect him.
Well, there goes our best pitcher.
Or well.. I would say by the looks of the first inning, he actually went before then. :p

Can imagine their conversations
When Lee is on first is where the best places to eat in Houston and Milwaukee are. :p

I think Erstad should get more playing time.
I’m not ready to give up on Bourn, but Erstad has earned at least a couple of starts per week, in my book anyway.
Another HBP turns into a run after kapler triples
Brewers hitters decided they will not try to move out of way of close pitches.
Where is Nolan Ryan when you need him?
because of an errror on Fielder's routine grounder, still no outs.
Hart finally K’s.
I’m not sure I will waatch this game much longer. Too frustrating and I have other things to do.
now Branyan homers. Astros aiming to set all time home runs allowed mark.
What?
Why are we giving away runs? Of course we are going to lose if we keep walking in batters and hitting batters with the bases loaded.
I didn't have the broadcast in my area
and I’m glad. Wouldn’t have hung in there for long, I’m sure. This losing streak reminds me of the past two years’ teams, and it’s like—oh, right, here’s the Astros I know.
And I wish that I had confidence that it’s just a low streak. I hate it, but it became Pavlovian to expect them to suck. At least it was fun for a while, a hell of a lot more fun than the past two years.
75% of the Earth's surface is covered by water. . . the other 25% by Michael Bourn
