Roy Oswalt is pitching, so that means no J.R. Towles... honestly, with the way Towles has been hitting, Ausmus seems like an offensive upgrade.  Cooper is still running Bourn out in the lead off spot... not sure how much longer that will(or should) continue to happen.  In my opinion, he should be batting 7th or 8th in the lineup until he turns this around.  Cecil Cooper today on the radio said that he wants Bourn to put the ball on the ground more often and start bunting more... Me as well.

Cubs have already lost today, so the Astros have a chance to move up a game on them into 2nd place.  The Cardinals play the Rockies at 7:35 PM CDT.

Is anyone worried...

by Oswalt’s preference for Ausmus as his personal catcher? I’m not exactly worried by it, but I certainly hope that Towles catches Oswalt a few times this season, at least. Lots of time left for that to happen, obviously.

by BTastros on May 7, 2008 6:54 PM CDT   0 recs

not worried at all

A lot of teams use a personal catcher for their ace… no difference here.

Ugggh

Oswaly another HR. He is giving up way too many so far this year.

by Triple347 on May 7, 2008 7:11 PM CDT   0 recs

Yep

He gave up 14 all last year… he’s already given up 10 this year.

Go 'Stros!

by Stros Bro on May 7, 2008 7:12 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

that

is not a good sign, at all.

by Triple347 on May 7, 2008 7:15 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Maybe

He’ll only give up 4 more this year? :p

by entropic soul on May 7, 2008 7:18 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Yea

and maybe Lance will hit 100 home runs to.

Go 'Stros!

by Stros Bro on May 7, 2008 7:20 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

That'd

be super nice OPS !

by Triple347 on May 7, 2008 7:23 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Before the game I heard Ausmus say that...

You can really tell when Roy has his stuff by seeing batters swing ahead of his curveball and when the curveball is low..

1st batter Lopez, struck out way ahead of a Roy O curveball low… so I guess that’s a good sign..

by Stros Bro on May 7, 2008 7:11 PM CDT   0 recs

maybe not

Roy down 2-0 after giving up a home run to Zimmerman with a man on.

Surprised to tune in and

see Astros down 2-0 with Roy O still pitching in the top of the first.

Bourn

IO think he might need to be moved to the eight hole for now. He just is not getting on base enoguh

by Triple347 on May 7, 2008 7:17 PM CDT   0 recs

Lance is in the top 10 in MLB

in the following stat categories:

AVG – .353 (3rd)
R – 34 (t-1st)
2B – 13 (t-2nd)
HR – 10 (t-2nd)
RBI – 32 (3rd)
OBP – .428 (9th)
SLG – .731 (3rd)
OPS – 1.159 (3rd)

He’s also in the top of the leaderboard in:

H – 42 (11th)
SB – 6 (t-21st)

Not too shabby.

P.S.

All those numbers are coming into today… I think.

Yes, I am a nerd.

by TexSkins on May 7, 2008 7:38 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Compare him to 1st basemen

And he leads most (and is second many he doesn’t) pretty much every category except for walks. He has twice as many steals as the next 1B.

by entropic soul on May 7, 2008 7:39 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Berkman

Damn. He’ll have to make an out eventually…

by entropic soul on May 7, 2008 7:22 PM CDT   0 recs

Jeez

Is Roy pissed or something? He’s done nothing but strike out people for all four of his outs so far.

by entropic soul on May 7, 2008 7:28 PM CDT   0 recs

JD said that Roy looked really mad, after the HR...

he thinks that Oswalt is pitching with anger because he is pissed about giving up the HR.

by clack on May 7, 2008 7:39 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

I an't see the game

since I am in Dallas, but the Unoffical Scorer said the pitch to Zimmerman was a good pitch, but an even better piece of hitting, so credit him for that, I suppose

by Triple347 on May 7, 2008 7:35 PM CDT   0 recs

You would think

The guy with 6 strike outs after 2 would not be the guy losing the game.

by entropic soul on May 7, 2008 7:36 PM CDT   0 recs

Wiggy took away the DP...

or Guzman had it stick to his glove?

Yes, I am a nerd.

by TexSkins on May 7, 2008 7:37 PM CDT   0 recs

hard to tell...but I think it stuck in Guzman's glove.

Guzman maybe a bit surprised that Wiggy came in so hard when he wasn’t going to get the throw off..

by clack on May 7, 2008 7:40 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

grip

looks like he couldn’t get a grip on the ball actually

fox sports southwest HD

don’t know if anyone else is watching on FSN-SW HD – or trying to, rather… but it’s really aggravating that they have their feeds switched – they are showing the FSN-SOUTH HD game – Atlanta vs. San Diego (when it clearly says Hou vs. Wash in the guide) ... sorry.. had to vent… someone fix it please…

by exit53 on May 7, 2008 7:40 PM CDT   0 recs

by TexSkins on May 7, 2008 7:41 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Lopez with a double..

Roy’s change up was way too hittable, right in the hitting zone.

by clack on May 7, 2008 7:45 PM CDT   0 recs

Guzman flies out...

breaks the K streak.

Yes, I am a nerd.

by TexSkins on May 7, 2008 7:46 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Nooo! Ends the strike out streak at 7.

Top

Yes, I am a nerd.

by TexSkins on May 7, 2008 7:49 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Yikes...

Bourn really needs to get something going soon.

So many our rallies with Tejada, Berkman, Lee have come with 2 outs. They can’t be expected to keep that up.

by BTastros on May 7, 2008 7:51 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

if Bourn is going to hit infield choppers, he is better served...

to hit them toward the left side, and not toward 1st base.

by clack on May 7, 2008 7:54 PM CDT   0 recs

I watched ESPN's replay...

of the highlights from Kerry Wood’s 20 K game ten years ago. Safe to say that his strike zone was a little wider than Roy’s today. I think he got robbed on that curveball for ball 4.

by BTastros on May 7, 2008 8:00 PM CDT   0 recs

the K zone

agrees, on the top outside corner.

BERKMAN!!!!

What a way to tie the franchise record for consecutive hits.

by BTastros on May 7, 2008 8:06 PM CDT   0 recs

AND...

hitting from the right side!

by BTastros on May 7, 2008 8:07 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Yea..

to all those who say he should only hit left handed.. suck that!

Go 'Stros!

by Stros Bro on May 7, 2008 8:07 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

right handed

the other thing of note – he’s hitting right handed tonight.. .he’s just on a tear.

by exit53 on May 7, 2008 8:07 PM CDT   0 recs

Amazing

Is this the most impressive week we’ve ever seen from one hitter?

yes! just announced! astros traded stephen randolph to phillies for player to be named later.

by exit53 on May 7, 2008 8:08 PM CDT   0 recs

whoo hoo!

That player to be named later is good for the Astros… what a hitter

Go 'Stros!

by Stros Bro on May 7, 2008 8:09 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

he's ..

.. WAAAAAY better than Randolph

by exit53 on May 7, 2008 8:09 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

at least Astros won't be tempted to call up Randolph...

truthfully, I hope randolph puts it together somewhere, but he probably won’t.

by clack on May 7, 2008 8:10 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

He was...

our player of the month in AAA, with a ~1.5 ERA in 11 innings, I think.

by BTastros on May 7, 2008 8:09 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

cassel has a 1.6 or so ERA for Round Rock

threw 6 shutout innings last night.

Didn’t even move… pretty sure he could have gotten out of the way of it…

smart thinking!
Brad “Can’t possibly GIDP now” Ausmus to bat now.

by entropic soul on May 7, 2008 8:12 PM CDT   0 recs

heh...

A sort of double steal :). Steal 3rd on one pitch, then 2nd on the next.

by BTastros on May 7, 2008 8:12 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Sort of

They did it on 2 different pitches :)
