Anyone think the Astros can repeat their 3-peat from last night of Tejada, Berkman and Lee all going back to back to back with jacks to push the Astros ahead of the Brewers in what ended up being a 7-4 victory.  Roy Oswalt wasn't stellar by any means yesterday, but managed to go 6 innings and only leave the game with the lead.  I'll take that any day from any starter.  The pen was quite good last night with Geary, Brocail and Valverde all pitching shut out ball to give the Astros their 14th win of the season.

The Astros send Brandon Backe to the hill tonight to face Manny Para of the Brewers.  It looks like tonight could be a slug fest with both pitchers having high 4 ERA's.  Last time out, Backe went just 5 innings and gave up 4 ER and earned the loss, while Parra went 5 1/3 innings while only giving up 2 runs, but earned a no decision.

weeks with a lead off homer...

Backe isn’t sharp early. gives up a a single to Cameron, but gets a DP from Braun and a grounder to 1st from Fielder.

Lee walks, bases loaded for Pence

Parra appears to have good breaking pitches, which could be a problem for Pence.

Lots of traffic on the bases for backe...

in the 2d, but he escapes thanks to a DP started by Wig-man, and the pitcher batting 8th..

Not much going for the home team in the 2nd

3 up, 3 down.
Let’s see if Backe can return the favor.

Bourn K's for 2d time

memo to Cooper: Bourrn cannot hit LHP..

Matsui walks and goes to 3d on bloop single by Tejada.

berkman with a ground out to 2d.

Matsui scores. Ball looked like possible DP, but it was too slow and/or Hardy wasn’t quick enough, so that Berkman easily beat rerturn throw.

Brewers unhappy with home plate ump.

Backe got a called strike on inside curveball, and Braun complained. Fielder was easily thrown out…he didn’t run…on a ball hit in front of plate. Fielder tried to tell ump that he wrong and it was foul…Yost chimed in too.

Now Backe gets out of inning with a flyout to Pence.

1-1 tie game.

These are supposed to be the two..

Lee with single, but DP by Pence.

Wiggy with infield single, but Towles out on grounder to short.

Backe gets out of jam.

Walked Hardy and Parra, the pitcher, gets a hit. But he got a pop up and long fly out to LF to get out of inning.

BACKE WITH SOLO HOMER!!!!

Entropic, you were wrong. But I would have given Backe a better chance than Bourn.

by clack on May 3, 2008 7:31 PM CDT reply actions

BOURN HOME RUN

I got to insult those two more often!!!

Bourn with homer!!!!!!!!

I was wrong about his chances too. Back to back homers for second consecutive day.

Matsui singles

Braun just misses catching the ball

by entropic soul on May 3, 2008 7:35 PM CDT reply actions

Matsui steals!

Tejada follows with a double off the left field wall!

4 consecutive hits! 3 runs. no outs!

by entropic soul on May 3, 2008 7:36 PM CDT reply actions

Berkman singles

5 hits!

How long does Parra have before he’s taken out?

by entropic soul on May 3, 2008 7:37 PM CDT reply actions

Passed ball (or wild pitch)

Tejada scores from third. Berkman to second. Lee still batting.
Astros 5-1

Lee

Walks.

6 consecutive men on base.

:)

Getting good!!

Parra out now

Didn’t hear who they are bringing in. Bush was warming up earlier.

Backe still celebrating home run?

He walks the first 2 batters withouut a strike. then gets Fielder on a flyball.

by clack on May 3, 2008 8:03 PM CDT reply actions

Backe lifted. Villareal comes in game.

Fright night.

But he gets an out to 1st.

by clack on May 3, 2008 8:17 PM CDT reply actions

Miggy with pop to CF, dropped by shortstop,

but Hardy throws to 2d and matsui beats it and then tthrow to 3d beats Bourn. Berkman hits into DP to end promising inning.

by clack on May 3, 2008 8:28 PM CDT up reply actions

yeah, I didn't see his reaction at 2d well enough...

to place any blame on him. Unless he hesitated or delayed after the ball was dropped, he just had a tough situation.

by clack on May 3, 2008 8:40 PM CDT up reply actions

Villareal with good 1-2-3 seventh inning.

Nice running catch by Matsui in short RF….between charging Berkman and Pence…was key play.

by clack on May 3, 2008 8:37 PM CDT reply actions

Lead off walk to Braun in 8th

Not good, Villareal. And he will be replaced by Wright.

by clack on May 3, 2008 8:44 PM CDT reply actions

The Wright Stuff...

Wesley Wright gets flyouts to RF by Hart and Hall.

by clack on May 3, 2008 8:55 PM CDT reply actions

valverde gets a 1-2-3 ninth inning.....

but it wasn’t as easy to watch as it sounds. he went 3-0 and 3-1 on the first two hitters. Brewers’ game plan was just to “take pitches” but once he made strikes and the hitters had to take swings, he got his outs. All’s well that ends well.
