Wandy Rodriguez is starting tomorrow instead of Roy Oswalt...  wow.. Roy is being pushed back until the Thursday start.  If Roy started tomorrow he would be on 5 days rest which is 1 more game than normal... and instead, Wandy is starting and pushing Roy back another game.  Anyone think that Roy would be getting pushed back if he was doing anything close to what he's done in the past(before this season)???  Maybe they think the 6 full days of rest will do Roy some good... heck, it couldn't hurt much.

Today we have Shawn Chacon taking the hill.  Chacon finally earned a win his last time out by going 7 full innings and giving up just 3 earned runs.  Hopefully we see more of the same from him tonight.

That would be all Clack

but I’m sure he appreciates the love :)

Sampson...

Pushed out of the rotation by Wandy’s turn.
Or rather, Moehler’s good performance as a starter.
Read about it here.

You mean the

5 innings and 4 earned runs wasn’t enough to keep his job??? :P

Braden Looper

I hate this dude. His ugly mug reminds me of an old nasty roommate I once had.

EL CABALLO!!!!!

Knocks a hit into center. Bourn and Matsui score. :)
2-0 Astros. Pence to bat with men an 2nd and 3rd.

by entropic soul on May 27, 2008 7:27 PM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

After a pitch-around walk to Berkman...

Lee gets us started with a 2 RBI single. Ankiel’s throw to home is wild, and Carlos gets to 2nd.

by BTastros on May 27, 2008 7:27 PM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

And Pence!

With a long infield single to score another.

by BTastros on May 27, 2008 7:29 PM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

TOWLES HIT!

We’re gonna have to kick their asses now.

by entropic soul on May 27, 2008 7:31 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

hehe...

Didn’t look intentional.

But with the tension between these clubs now, I’m not sure it’s going to be anything intentional that lights the short fuse.

by BTastros on May 27, 2008 7:32 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Yeah

Looper looks to have poor control tonight.

by entropic soul on May 27, 2008 7:33 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Geez, Towles...

he managed to get picked off at first with a man on 2nd. Now Chacon has to lead off the next inning.

by BTastros on May 27, 2008 7:33 PM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Wish Chacon

could have gotten that last out.

by entropic soul on May 27, 2008 7:34 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

yep. Towlels needs to realize the situation.

with pitcher batting, no reason to be that far off base.

nice swing by Puma

that was probably ball 4, but it was close enough to have to protect the plate. nice job serving it the other way.

by lnewcomer on May 27, 2008 7:59 PM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Someone on the radio today

Called in and said that he was a Cardinals fan, and that no batter in the league scares him more than Lance Berkman, especially in late innings with runners on… So Puma’s getting some love around the league.

by Stros Bro on May 27, 2008 8:09 PM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

You were right.

And Bourn is looking better lately too.
Now all we need is Towles to come around.

by entropic soul on May 27, 2008 8:12 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Come around?

Let’s start with getting Towles to .200.

by drsarc on May 27, 2008 8:17 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Just reading around and found this by John Kruk
When I was with the Padres, I hit a homer off Nolan Ryan. I ran around the bases so fast I don’t think my feet touched the ground except to hit the bases. And when I got back to the dugout I told people not to shake my hand. I was kind of hoping Nolan would forget who hit it. The last thing you want is one of Ryan’s famous bowties next time you face him.

that's about the velocity of everybody in the astros' rotation, except Roy O.

Astros have a bunch of breaking pitch specialists (junk ballers if you want to be disparaging).

The way the bullpen is lately… maintaining the 4-run lead is nice.

An RBI on a walk for Towles.

Astros hot on a cold night in St Lousi

We wondered how the Astros would play after two days to think about that ugly loss Sunday to Philadephia. I’d say determined to right the ship us e teamn attitude. It’s easy to like this team.

That’s pathetic on Springer’s part.

by drsarc on May 27, 2008 8:39 PM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

You know what's pathetic?

The Dodgers…’
Their starter gives them 6 shut out innings and they can only score 1 against the Cubs.
Now the Cubs have a 3-1 lead.

the NL Central has really trashed the Dodgers the past couple weeks

we swept ‘em, the Cards won their series 3-1 I think and now the Cubs are beating up on them.

nope

he’s definitely been much better than I thought he’d be. still probably not worth 5 players, but for this year at least it’s working out.

by lnewcomer on May 27, 2008 9:18 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I am guessing 20 HRs for Tejada...

His HR total has been declining every year. But the good thing is that he can hit for average, and he can fall back on that….particularly with RISP. His HR/fly rate is lower than usual, which might mean he has a been a bit unlucky with homers this year.

by clack on May 27, 2008 9:17 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I manage to keep forgetting how painfully slow Molina is. Pretty long grounder to short, and I couldn’t even see him on the screen yet as the throw was made to first.

Nice win.....

and I watch ESPN sportscenter now…..they are talkinig about the Mets win over the Marlins, and they are embarrassingly effusive in praise of Santana, calling him “supernatural\.” And then I realize that Chacon allowed fewer runs than Santana (3 RA).

Chacon doesn't play for Boston or New York

so no one knows who he is. Maybe it’s time to comsider signing him…???

by entropic soul on May 28, 2008 1:39 AM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Great win

Looper’s been dumbfoundingly dominating over us of late, so I was particularly excited to see us jump all over him in the first inning. And Chacon’s been a real nice surprise for us this year. That was his 8th “quality” start out of 11 starts this year and he’s only failed to get through the 6th inning twice. He and Backe have turned out to be pretty solid middle of the rotation guys. If Wandy can come back Wandilicious and the real Roy can ever show up, our rotation will actually be fairly decent.

And remember when Pence was stumbling out of the gate and people were questioning if the league had figured him out? Yeah, seems like a distant memory, huh?
