Houston Astros at St. Louis Cardinals, 7:15 PM CDT
Houston Astros at St. Louis Cardinals, May 27, 2008 7:15 PM CDT
Wandy Rodriguez is starting tomorrow instead of Roy Oswalt... wow.. Roy is being pushed back until the Thursday start. If Roy started tomorrow he would be on 5 days rest which is 1 more game than normal... and instead, Wandy is starting and pushing Roy back another game. Anyone think that Roy would be getting pushed back if he was doing anything close to what he's done in the past(before this season)??? Maybe they think the 6 full days of rest will do Roy some good... heck, it couldn't hurt much.
Today we have Shawn Chacon taking the hill. Chacon finally earned a win his last time out by going 7 full innings and giving up just 3 earned runs. Hopefully we see more of the same from him tonight.

Great post earlier....
....regarding the lack of parity in the schedules for the top 3 in the Comedy Central
Sampson...
Pushed out of the rotation by Wandy’s turn.
Or rather, Moehler’s good performance as a starter.
Read about it here.
EL CABALLO!!!!!
Knocks a hit into center. Bourn and Matsui score. :)
2-0 Astros. Pence to bat with men an 2nd and 3rd.
After a pitch-around walk to Berkman...
Lee gets us started with a 2 RBI single. Ankiel’s throw to home is wild, and Carlos gets to 2nd.
TOWLES HIT!
We’re gonna have to kick their asses now.

hehe...
Didn’t look intentional.
But with the tension between these clubs now, I’m not sure it’s going to be anything intentional that lights the short fuse.
Yeah
Looper looks to have poor control tonight.

Geez, Towles...
he managed to get picked off at first with a man on 2nd. Now Chacon has to lead off the next inning.
Wish Chacon
could have gotten that last out.

yep. Towlels needs to realize the situation.
with pitcher batting, no reason to be that far off base.
nice swing by Puma
that was probably ball 4, but it was close enough to have to protect the plate. nice job serving it the other way.
Someone on the radio today
Called in and said that he was a Cardinals fan, and that no batter in the league scares him more than Lance Berkman, especially in late innings with runners on… So Puma’s getting some love around the league.
Go 'Stros!
You were right.
And Bourn is looking better lately too.
Now all we need is Towles to come around.

Just reading around and found this by John Kruk
When I was with the Padres, I hit a homer off Nolan Ryan. I ran around the bases so fast I don’t think my feet touched the ground except to hit the bases. And when I got back to the dugout I told people not to shake my hand. I was kind of hoping Nolan would forget who hit it. The last thing you want is one of Ryan’s famous bowties next time you face him.

I guess we aren't going to see any home run robbing catches...

that's about the velocity of everybody in the astros' rotation, except Roy O.
Astros have a bunch of breaking pitch specialists (junk ballers if you want to be disparaging).
HUNTAH!!!
You don’t run on him!!! Ankiel tried scoring from 2nd on a liner to Pence, but Pence guns his ass down at home..
Go 'Stros!
throw was a good bit up the line towards 3rd
but it beat him by so much that it didn’t matter. bad call by the 3b coach
glad to see him back to Cardinal-killing ways
he had a big series against them at the beginning of the year. that’s his first HR in forever too.
Wow
The Stros seem to have that knack for bouncing back after a tough game. It’s great to see… leaves this lifelong Stros fan with a good feeling.

Miggy gets a 2 run HR
hard to tell on the fence they have in left. that’s two weird bounces out there tonight.
we've jacked up Looper's ERA a bit tonight
7 ER in 4 1/3 so far.
And Carlos sent one to the fence in RF
Looks like the day off did everyone some good = )

scruffy little bastard...
From a promising prospect to a scruffy little bastard – that’s comedy.

i think you can be a scruffy little bastard
and a promising prospect at the same time. it was a term of endearment.
I'd forgotten
read it somewhere, maybe on Footer’s mailbag, that Towles started at A ball last year. He’s made a big jump.
An RBI on a walk for Towles.
Right on
I thought it was funny because scruffy little bastard pretty much summed up my impressions of Towles thus far.

thought Puma might score on that
got an unlucky bounce off the stands down the line to keep it out of the corner
Astros hot on a cold night in St Lousi
We wondered how the Astros would play after two days to think about that ugly loss Sunday to Philadephia. I’d say determined to right the ship us e teamn attitude. It’s easy to like this team.

You know what's pathetic?
The Dodgers…’
Their starter gives them 6 shut out innings and they can only score 1 against the Cubs.
Now the Cubs have a 3-1 lead.

the NL Central has really trashed the Dodgers the past couple weeks
we swept ‘em, the Cards won their series 3-1 I think and now the Cubs are beating up on them.
Yall hear the news about Andruw Jones?
He’s gonna be out for a couple of months or something like that… That deal gets worse by the minute.

I'd be happier if it were
Chipper Jones. :p

Or Derek Lee Or Albert Pujols Or the Brewer of your choice...
I’d personally take out Braun.

I didn't mind the Dodgers losing to the Astros
But I wish they had put up a better fight against the Cardinals and Cubs.

They just blew bases loaded with one out.
No runs scored.

replay shows he was actually safe anyway
still should have run thru it. you could see him lose his momentum when he hit the dirt.
isn't it weird
to actually feel good about an Adam Wainwright v. Wandy Rodriguez pitching matchup tomorrow night?
Another solo shot
That’s fine Chacon… if you only give up 2 of those per every 5 innings we’ll be fine..
Go 'Stros!
Nice - Wild Card talk in May.
I’m down with it.

Miggy's first HR since May 2
per the unofficial scorer over at the chron
http://blogs.chron.com/unofficialscorer/2008/05/tejada_back_on_the_homer_train.html
Seems like he's been content to set the table for Lance, Carlos, and Hunter
Do you think he’ll break 22 HRs this year?
Got Texans? Visit BattleRedBlog.com for the latest on your Houston Texans!
Would yall figure his HR numbers are down by design?
Got Texans? Visit BattleRedBlog.com for the latest on your Houston Texans!
i doubt it
tejada really doesn’t look like he ever gets cheated on a swing. he still seems to have been swinging the bat well the past month, just not getting much up
After the trade and the whole Mitchell Report Debacle -
would you ever had imagined that Miggy would be this productive?

I am guessing 20 HRs for Tejada...
His HR total has been declining every year. But the good thing is that he can hit for average, and he can fall back on that….particularly with RISP. His HR/fly rate is lower than usual, which might mean he has a been a bit unlucky with homers this year.
darn
chacon almost had a hit there. if the pitcher doesn’t get his glove on it I think that goes thru to center
Man...
My jog this afternoon damn near killed me. 98 here in SA. It’s been f’ing hot. I was in the RGV this weekend visiting my folks – to be honest, I would have paid a king’s ransom to drop the temp a good 20 degrees…

it seems to me that the cards have been helping him a bit
he’s had several deep counts, but he’s pulled them out. a nice game pitched, no matter what. he definitely deserves the W tonight.
i like this kind of game
when it’s against the cards. it’d be nice to sweep them. we haven’t done that since that Sept. series against them several years ago I think.
Heh...
I manage to keep forgetting how painfully slow Molina is. Pretty long grounder to short, and I couldn’t even see him on the screen yet as the throw was made to first.
GG Astros! A very nice win to start the series.
Nice win.....
and I watch ESPN sportscenter now…..they are talkinig about the Mets win over the Marlins, and they are embarrassingly effusive in praise of Santana, calling him “supernatural\.” And then I realize that Chacon allowed fewer runs than Santana (3 RA).
Chacon doesn't play for Boston or New York
so no one knows who he is. Maybe it’s time to comsider signing him…???
by entropic soul on May 28, 2008 1:39 AM CDT up reply actions
Great win
Looper’s been dumbfoundingly dominating over us of late, so I was particularly excited to see us jump all over him in the first inning. And Chacon’s been a real nice surprise for us this year. That was his 8th “quality” start out of 11 starts this year and he’s only failed to get through the 6th inning twice. He and Backe have turned out to be pretty solid middle of the rotation guys. If Wandy can come back Wandilicious and the real Roy can ever show up, our rotation will actually be fairly decent.
And remember when Pence was stumbling out of the gate and people were questioning if the league had figured him out? Yeah, seems like a distant memory, huh?
