Matsui’s walk being the highlight

Cubs get a runner to third
but no score in the second. Lance Berkman made a nice catch on one a hop sizzler for one of the outs.

First thing I hear on ESPN
is how the hill in CF and the flag pole are fun to talk about, but are going to eventually get someone hurt..
I agree, but still don’t want to hear them talk about it… :)
Go 'Stros!
I nver agree with Steve Phillips
So it hurt me to agre with him this time – the hill and the flagpole! – bad ideas

I've seen some bad falls on the hill
and one player (I think WiIly T) had to catch himself at the last second before running into the pole.

Moehler pitching to Ausmus
Anyone think Ausmus would be catching for him if Towles was doing anything with the stick?
Go 'Stros!
Before it happened
I never thought of Moehler starting (or being on the team this year for that matter) .

So..
I’m sure he would like the way any pitcher works with Ausmus.. Ausmus is a better play caller and receiver than Towles.. No offense to Towles
Go 'Stros!
one might take it as a backhanded slam at Moehler...
i.e., Moehler is weaker and needs help. Actually, I can see some rationale based on the type of pitcher he is. He has unimposing stuff and has to rely on pitch selection, change of speed, etc., where Ausmus is more valuable as a play caller.
Lily has an extreme overhand throwing style
Most pitchers are closer to a 3/4 style…
As soon as I type this, I hear the announcers talking about it… then Lily throws a pitch closer to 3/4 style and makes me look stupid.
Go 'Stros!
I wondered where everybody was at....
I was watching the thread below this one, and posted a game score after 1.5 innings there.
:)
strike zone
has seemed a little inconsistent on both sides. some high pitches have been called, others not. same for that pitch at the knees.
that would have been some call....
Ausmus heard you and lofted it toward the Crawford Boxes but came up about 50 feet short.
Useless information for most(if not all) of you
But I’m a huge Pittsburgh Penguins fan(almost as much as an Astros fan) and the Pens are going to the Stanley Cup finals! YAY!
Go 'Stros!
If he hit the ball
like that all the time and had bad luck… then I wouldn’t be as upset with his sub .200 avg
Go 'Stros!
I'm happy w/ the decision to keep him in the lineup
despite our recent surge, our future is best served by seeing if him and Towles can contribute as major league players. i’m happy to play them this year and get that figured out.
replay shows that it looked like it hit right on the yellow line
that goes vertically from the overhang in right center down to the top of the wall.
may be....
but Bourn made a horrible play. He has got to keep playing and not stop til the ump rules that it is a homer. Instead he just stood arouund while the Cubs circled the bases.
Where was Pence?

grrr
i hate it when edmonds hits against us. although he sure dogged it running to first.
and now he gets held to 2nd base on a single to left. now it looks like he’s hurt. awwww.
Tejada steals 3rd
nice that he made it, but with Lance batting… I think I wouldnt have chanced it…
Although, now with Lance striking out, 3rd looks better.
Go 'Stros!
announcer: Soriano would dive if he had a chance to get it.
Sorry, but I’ve never seen him do anything like that.
ARGH!
Damn 1000 feet deep centerfield!

The guy will roll in a wheelchair in CF when other teams play the Cubs...
but against the Astros, he is Willy Mays.
It's scarying me.
Cruz then Michael Bourn.
Biggest. Threat. Ever.

Hershisher's explanattion of pitching grips is all very fascinating...
but he has gotten into it so much, that they have forgotten about the game. ESPN.
Naturally...
I started watching the game right before Edmonds made that catch.
That kinda made up for it.
Dammit
Berkman sucks now.
Let’s trade him while his value is still high.

I don't know
we’re already behind, so Bork’s game blowing opportunities are limited. we may be in the gray area for game already lost, so his “pitch like crap” flag might not get activated.
was a great comment by JD
on the pitch before Soriano K’d he talked about Ausmus’ tendency to call for the same pitch again if the pitcher missed his spot and it worked out just like that
Throw beat him I think
but Theriot held his glove too high making sure he held onto the ball and Bourn slid into the base below the glove.

My mistake
Matsui was tagged before he touched second; but he’s safe anyway.

ESPN announcers convinced he was thrown out.
i’m not sure. awfully close, and made that steal awfully chancey in that situation. Bourn should have tried to steal home though.
Borkowski made sure the souvenirs get into the Crawford Boxes.
Shouldn’t have been 2 run home run though, because Ty Wigginton played Ole on that double.
How depressing...
We’ve had ample opportunities to score but Berkman has went 0-4 (yeah, he’s allowed that), our hitters are just not coming through. And Bourn is 2-4 – Go figure. We were in this game and could be leading…oh well…
Go Stros!
Biggio and Bagwell for the HOF!
I don't understand bringing Bork in the game, only down by 2 runs.
That seems winnable….and Borkowski shoulld never be used in late inning of close game.
Astros wilted under the glare
of the national spotlight
