So far so good

Cubs go down meekly in the first.

Astros go meekly too

Matsui’s walk being the highlight

Cubs get a runner to third

but no score in the second. Lance Berkman made a nice catch on one a hop sizzler for one of the outs.

First thing I hear on ESPN

is how the hill in CF and the flag pole are fun to talk about, but are going to eventually get someone hurt..

I agree, but still don’t want to hear them talk about it… :)

I nver agree with Steve Phillips

So it hurt me to agre with him this time – the hill and the flagpole! – bad ideas

What's worse

The short porch in left, the flag pole or the hill?

it's been 8 years

has anyone even come close to getting hurt by either of them?

by lnewcomer on May 19, 2008 6:43 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Umm...

Probably not, a couple have fallen down going up the hill, but my son falls down every day.. is he close to getting hurt? :)

I've seen some bad falls on the hill

and one player (I think WiIly T) had to catch himself at the last second before running into the pole.

Moehler pitching to Ausmus

Anyone think Ausmus would be catching for him if Towles was doing anything with the stick?

Before it happened

I never thought of Moehler starting (or being on the team this year for that matter) .

maybe not.

but Cooper’s explanation is that he likes the way Ausmus and Moehlerr work together.

by clack on May 19, 2008 6:39 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

So..

I’m sure he would like the way any pitcher works with Ausmus.. Ausmus is a better play caller and receiver than Towles.. No offense to Towles

one might take it as a backhanded slam at Moehler...

i.e., Moehler is weaker and needs help. Actually, I can see some rationale based on the type of pitcher he is. He has unimposing stuff and has to rely on pitch selection, change of speed, etc., where Ausmus is more valuable as a play caller.

by clack on May 19, 2008 6:47 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Lily has an extreme overhand throwing style

Most pitchers are closer to a 3/4 style…

As soon as I type this, I hear the announcers talking about it… then Lily throws a pitch closer to 3/4 style and makes me look stupid.

I wondered where everybody was at....

I was watching the thread below this one, and posted a game score after 1.5 innings there.

Yea

We don’t liven up until the 7th or 8th inning.

And ESPN sucks

maybe some are boycotting the game

strike zone

has seemed a little inconsistent on both sides. some high pitches have been called, others not. same for that pitch at the knees.

by lnewcomer on May 19, 2008 6:53 PM CDT   0 recs

Ausmus goes yard

okay.. he hasn’t yet, but I’m calling for it!

by Stros Bro on May 19, 2008 6:53 PM CDT   0 recs

Doh

Fly out to Soriano… I see he still hops when catching the ball.. maybe he’ll sprain an ankle(again)

by Stros Bro on May 19, 2008 6:55 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

that would have been some call....

Ausmus heard you and lofted it toward the Crawford Boxes but came up about 50 feet short.

by clack on May 19, 2008 6:55 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Useless information for most(if not all) of you

But I’m a huge Pittsburgh Penguins fan(almost as much as an Astros fan) and the Pens are going to the Stanley Cup finals! YAY!

If he hit the ball

like that all the time and had bad luck… then I wouldn’t be as upset with his sub .200 avg

I'm happy w/ the decision to keep him in the lineup

despite our recent surge, our future is best served by seeing if him and Towles can contribute as major league players. i’m happy to play them this year and get that figured out.

by lnewcomer on May 19, 2008 7:00 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

wonder where Tejada was playing

seemed like he should have gotten to that bouncer in the hole

by lnewcomer on May 19, 2008 7:08 PM CDT   0 recs

I think that was an actual HR

not an inside the parker

by lnewcomer on May 19, 2008 7:11 PM CDT   0 recs

replay shows that it looked like it hit right on the yellow line

that goes vertically from the overhang in right center down to the top of the wall.

by lnewcomer on May 19, 2008 7:13 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

may be....

but Bourn made a horrible play. He has got to keep playing and not stop til the ump rules that it is a homer. Instead he just stood arouund while the Cubs circled the bases.

by clack on May 19, 2008 7:14 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

grrr

i hate it when edmonds hits against us. although he sure dogged it running to first.

and now he gets held to 2nd base on a single to left. now it looks like he’s hurt. awwww.

by lnewcomer on May 19, 2008 7:16 PM CDT   0 recs

Moehler

starting to suck today.

by entropic soul on May 19, 2008 7:17 PM CDT   0 recs

long inning not helping

maybe he can make it thru 5 though

by lnewcomer on May 19, 2008 7:20 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

even thought it was probably a actual HR

it’s cool that a catcher got an inside the park HR

by lnewcomer on May 19, 2008 7:22 PM CDT   0 recs

Tejada steals 3rd

nice that he made it, but with Lance batting… I think I wouldnt have chanced it…

Although, now with Lance striking out, 3rd looks better.

that hurt

would suck to waste this oppo

by lnewcomer on May 19, 2008 7:29 PM CDT   0 recs

At least gets the run in....

with some help from Soriano, playing Carlos like LF.

by clack on May 19, 2008 7:32 PM CDT   0 recs

announcer: Soriano would dive if he had a chance to get it.

Sorry, but I’ve never seen him do anything like that.

by ol Pete on May 19, 2008 7:33 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

he hops like a bunny

that’s sort of a dive

Hershisher's explanattion of pitching grips is all very fascinating...

but he has gotten into it so much, that they have forgotten about the game. ESPN.

by clack on May 19, 2008 7:54 PM CDT   0 recs

yep

It was like they were interrupting him to talk about the game..
