Houston Astros at Texas Rangers, 2:05 PM CDT
Houston Astros at Texas Rangers, May 18, 2008 2:05 PM CDT
After winning 4 straight series, the Astros have already lost the 1st series against the Rangers by dropping the 1st two games 16-8 and 6-2. The two consecutive losses dropped the Astros back to 3rd place, 2.5 games behind the 1st place Cubs.
The Astros have drawn a pretty good pitcher in Kason Gabbard today... Gabbard has pitched well but has only recorded 1 decision this season. In Gabbard's 6 starts this season, he has yet to give up more than 3 runs in any outing... the problem with him though, is that he has only pitched 6 innings or more in 2 of those starts. The Rangers are 5-1 in games started by Gabbard.

Bourn back leading off already?
that didn’t last long.

Coop says...
Pence batting first makes the bottom of the order too weak cause Wiggles sucks.

So give the person
who is the worst hitter, the most at bats? Makes sense to me..
Go 'Stros!
by Stros Bro on May 18, 2008 2:19 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Maybe it's just better..
to get Bourn out of the way so he doesn’t kill a rally later on. :p
by entropic soul on May 18, 2008 2:23 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
I figured it's because
the Astros mojo has been messed with by him batting last and Coop didn’t want to say he was superstitious about lineups.

If they keep scoring like this though
He can stay batting first…

So we lost the two games..
I thought we could win and now there’s this one, which I thought wasn’t too good for us. Why am I even here? :p

Just kind of a boring game...
until this inning.
Bases loaded with 1 out for Loretta now.
by BTastros on May 18, 2008 2:53 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Loretta takes...
on 3-1 and 3-2, and walks in the first run of the game for the Astros.
Astros lead 1-0!

Did Berkman get a hit?
missed the radio and Gameday is hung up.
by entropic soul on May 18, 2008 2:58 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Yep
So did Pence. 17 and 16 games, respectively.

Longest duo hit streak for the Astros
since 2001 with Alou (16) and Berkman (21).

Chipper Jones' batting average
Down to .410 after going 1-3 with a walk today. IT was down to .406 but he just got a hit to bring it back up to .410.

So if the Astros mojo is the real deal
Does anyone expect that we’ll ever see Bourn in anything BUT the 1-spot now???

"Congrats, kid...
apparently you’re our good luck charm.”
by BTastros on May 18, 2008 3:24 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
No.
Bourn shall bat lead-off, so sayeth God.

Closing in on Chipper. Berkman .404, Chipper: .410

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
JD & Brownie: “This has to be a stressful moment for Ron Washington. 3-1 on a dangerous hitter with a 5-0 lead for the Astros.”
The hitter???
Wiggs.
Oh, how they make me laugh.
by saylinara on May 18, 2008 3:27 PM CDT reply actions 0 recs
He's actually hitting .375 or something
against left handers.
by entropic soul on May 18, 2008 3:30 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Did he pay the stat guy to say that?
by saylinara on May 18, 2008 3:32 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Ah
He probably got lucky and went 3-7 against the two left handers he faced or something. :p

Bourn with a walk and a slap single today...
any improvement is welcome.

Sigh
I F#*@#ING HATE THESE ANGEL UMPS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
by saylinara on May 18, 2008 3:47 PM CDT reply actions 0 recs
How the hell does an ump...
make that call from the side?
My thinking is that umpires shouldn’t reward bad throws and gimmicky attempts at tags when it isn’t crystal clear.
by BTastros on May 18, 2008 3:49 PM CDT reply actions 0 recs
Umps should be held accountable for their mistakes
And have to offer public apologies if they get a call wrong and throw out a manager when a manager calls them out on it. >:o

I always thought
that the runner got the reasonable doubt on dubious calls…

Angel Campos must be the new
Angel Hernandez in training. They said on the radio that the elder has taken the younger under his wing.

Well, it just pisses me off...
that the ONE Michael Bourn stat we can be excited about is hurt by stupid umpiring.

How many times has Coop been thrown out this year?
Seems like he gets thrown out a lot.
by entropic soul on May 18, 2008 4:10 PM CDT reply actions 0 recs
Cubs won
No chance to move up. At least.. until tomorrow. MWUAHAHAHAHAHA!
by entropic soul on May 18, 2008 4:23 PM CDT reply actions 0 recs
Bourn...
now with a bunt hit! Nice to see one finally work.
by BTastros on May 18, 2008 4:28 PM CDT reply actions 0 recs
And another caught stealing to back that up.
What happened? Did he get slower? Bourn making Laird’s catching stats skyrocket.
by entropic soul on May 18, 2008 4:28 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
and geez...
Now a perfect throw gets him.
by BTastros on May 18, 2008 4:29 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
doesn't matter
Ump would have called him out anyway.
by entropic soul on May 18, 2008 4:31 PM CDT reply actions 0 recs
We did just get...
a makeup call on that strikeout.

Matsui, Tejada and Berkman up in the 9th
No part of the order I’d rather have more.

lol...
Brocail has 16 and 17 year old daughters, according to the Rangers announcers.
Talk about a scary dad for the high school boys.

Valverde coming in for the 4 out save
Gotta pay karma back for those 1 out saves he had earlier.
by entropic soul on May 18, 2008 4:39 PM CDT reply actions 0 recs
Lead off walk by Matsui.
And Tejada bounces intoa double play. Great work.
by entropic soul on May 18, 2008 4:49 PM CDT reply actions 0 recs
Hah...
Berkman hurts his average but gets on base anyway.
by BTastros on May 18, 2008 4:50 PM CDT reply actions 0 recs
And now Berkman steals...
and will surely not let Bourn hear the end of it.

Berkman:
“Wha..? You caught stealing by Laird three times? He di’nt catch me. You know why? Cause I’m the PUMA!”

Berkman goes 2 for 5
and his average suffers! Sheesh.. (Actually his average didn’t suffer for the year only for the month)

Astros win 5-4
It seemed Astros had a commanding lead the whole game and then almost lost it in the ninth.

Astros win....but the finish was too exciting for my taste.
Somewhat frustrating for me to watch the game. I’m in Austin and FSN carries the UT-A&M baseball game. Grande is my cable provider and they forgot to put the Astros-Rangers’ game on another channel. So I went to several local eateries to see if they would put the Astros game on TV. First one had Grande too, so that didn’t work. I finally found a place near UT which put the Astros game on a TV in the corner for me. I enjoyed it at that point, drinking Dos Equis and eating nachos…however, the jalapenos are getting to me now.

That sounds like a good afternoon.
I mean, once you actually got to sit down and watch the game.

Time Warner
Had it on 77, which is their “Infommercial except when FSN doesn’t carry Astros game” channel.
But I’ve been considering Grande because TW has gotten a bit expensive for me. Maybe I’ll just hold Grande like a club over TW’s head.
