Chris Sampson takes the hill today against Tim Lincecum.  Lincecum is by far the best Giants pitcher so far this season, and it hasn't been close.  Of the Giants starters with more than 1 game started, Lincecum is the only one with more than 2 wins, and less than a 4.00 ERA.  In his 7 starts this season, he has yet to give up more than 3 runs, and yet to last less than 6 innings.  Well... there's a 1st time for everything!

Sampson on the other hand is having a down season.  In his 7 starts this season, he has only lasted 6 innings 3 times and has given up 5 runs or more in 3 of his 7 starts.  But on the bright side, his last game out he went 7 full innings and didn't yield a run... so maybe he's turning the corner?  Well see...

The Astros will be without Miguel Tejada today who is scheduled to sit for the 1st time this season...  I'm not a real big fan of him sitting(since he is a guy who likes to play every day and really doesn't want to sit), but hopefully it will benefit him.

The Astros are still in 3rd place behind the Cardinals and Cubs; both teams in action today as well.  A win today for the Astros and losses for the Cards and Cubs would put the Astros in 2nd place, 1/2 a game behind the Cubbies.  A win today would also make it 4 straight series wins for the Astros and put them 6 games above .500.

All we can hope to do...

.....is take him deep in the count, get him to 110 pitches by the 6th-th inning and then make it rain like we have been in the late innings. Go ‘stros.

by drsarc on May 15, 2008 2:33 PM CDT   0 recs

yeah

and we can bring Tejada off the bench late in the game, when we’ll need him, so maybe sitting him won’t be so bad.

i doubt too many people give a crap about Detroit

but what’s with those guys this year? they’re about to get swept by the Royals and have the lowest win total in the AL. they’re lineup isn’t hitting and they’re pitchers aren’t pitching. if they lose again, they’ll be nine games under .500. who would have guessed that?

by littlevisigoth on May 15, 2008 2:51 PM CDT   0 recs

Hunter...

....show some patience!

by drsarc on May 15, 2008 2:52 PM CDT   0 recs

Them, the Padres and the CRockies

My, what a difference an offseason makes.

by drsarc on May 15, 2008 2:55 PM CDT   0 recs

Loretta duffs a much-needed DP ball

1-0, men on 1st and 3rd – still only one out

by drsarc on May 15, 2008 3:02 PM CDT   0 recs

i'm listening online, so i didn't see it

so what happened? i heard bouncer to short and assumed a DP. WTF?

by littlevisigoth on May 15, 2008 3:03 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Off the heel of Loretta's glove, in to CF

Runner went from 2nd to 3rd. Scored on SacFly

by drsarc on May 15, 2008 3:04 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

2-run mistake

So far. 2 outs.

by drsarc on May 15, 2008 3:03 PM CDT   0 recs

saw the replay of Loretta's blunder

on Gameday (nice feature, btw). kind of a middle hop, but should have been handled and probably should have been charged an error.

it’d be nice for him to pick up a rbi to compensate a little.

by littlevisigoth on May 15, 2008 3:14 PM CDT   0 recs

guess not

PUMA CAN’T DO IT ALL, PEOPLE!

by littlevisigoth on May 15, 2008 3:15 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Pirates leading now

8-5 in the 8th. if that score holds, we could move into 2nd place with a win. i know it means nothing this early in the season, but it’d be nice to work our way up to the top of the standings while we’re on this nice run.

by littlevisigoth on May 15, 2008 3:20 PM CDT   0 recs

Cubs are ahead in their game.

So it looks like the Astros, Cardinals and Brewers will all fall a game back today.

by entropic soul on May 15, 2008 3:23 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

you're giving up

on this one already? have some faith, bro!

by littlevisigoth on May 15, 2008 3:25 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

He's pitch count is such

that Lincecum could go 8 innings today. Don’t the guys know they need to work the counts?

by entropic soul on May 15, 2008 3:25 PM CDT   0 recs

So..

Since Loretta is playing short, and he’s at least part of the reason we are losing…. if we do end up losing this game, can we blame Cooper for sitting Tejada? :)

Go 'Stros!

by Stros Bro on May 15, 2008 3:31 PM CDT   0 recs

It's like this was a white flag game.

Cooper has been trying to find a game to rest Tejada, so he figures, rest him in a game we’ll lose anyway. I definitely don’t like the idea of starting Loretta at short in a game featuring Chris Sampson. Sampson, of all pitchers, needs the most help from shortstop.

by clack on May 15, 2008 3:44 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

doesn't sound

like Sampson’s getting hit hard and it sounds like he’s getting the ground balls he’s supposed to. he’s just not getting the outs.

by littlevisigoth on May 15, 2008 3:33 PM CDT   0 recs

oops

did i just jinx him?

by littlevisigoth on May 15, 2008 3:34 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

I think you did

We’ll blame you at least.

Go 'Stros!

by Stros Bro on May 15, 2008 3:35 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

can we go back

to blaming Coop? i liked that better.

by littlevisigoth on May 15, 2008 3:36 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Bourn botches a catch

Ok, if he’s not gonna make the catches either, it’s time to go.

by entropic soul on May 15, 2008 3:37 PM CDT   0 recs

off Bourn's glove?

should he have caught that?

crap. this one’s looking pretty out of reach, even though it’s only the third inning.

by littlevisigoth on May 15, 2008 3:38 PM CDT   0 recs

It was a tough play

Running towards the fence, head turned at a ball over his head… BUT it did hit his glove, and like I was always told… if it hits your glove, you should catch it..

Go 'Stros!

by Stros Bro on May 15, 2008 3:39 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

yes

it was in his glove, then it was not.

by entropic soul on May 15, 2008 3:40 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Bourn showed good speed to get to the ball.

many CFers don’t get there. However, once he caught up to the ball, he should have caught it.

by clack on May 15, 2008 3:46 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

PENCE!

Doubles off the wall in right.

Go 'Stros!

Puma

2 run single… :)

Go 'Stros!

by Stros Bro on May 15, 2008 3:47 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

JD said it

was a 97 MPH fast ball that Lance ripped into RF.. tough to do

Go 'Stros!

by Stros Bro on May 15, 2008 3:48 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Loretta gets one back

RBI single, scoring teh Puma

Go 'Stros!

Towles

SWING THE DAMN BAT!

Strikes out on 3 straight strikes, all called.

Go 'Stros!

by Stros Bro on May 15, 2008 3:55 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

there's one

he still owes ua another.

and maybe Bourn owes us a couple.

nice that we answered quick though. at least maybe it’s a game again.

by littlevisigoth on May 15, 2008 3:56 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

of course

it would have really felt weird if he didn’t at least pick up one RBI there.

by littlevisigoth on May 15, 2008 3:48 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

off Winn's head?

man, this is a game i really wish i had some video

by littlevisigoth on May 15, 2008 3:47 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

It hit the wall first, but bounced back and hit his head.

Doesn’t seem to have hurt him too much, I suppose.

by entropic soul on May 15, 2008 3:49 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Astros

are the only team to score 3 runs in an inning of Lincecum this season and only the 2nd team to score multiple runs on him in an inning.

Go 'Stros!

by Stros Bro on May 15, 2008 3:58 PM CDT   0 recs

what?

Puma struck out in an rbi opportunity?

well, Lincecum is up at 89 pitches, so maybe we can chase him in the 6th. it’s not over yet!

by littlevisigoth on May 15, 2008 4:19 PM CDT   0 recs

does Lincecum

have a slow delivery from the stretch? three stolen bases so far, including Lee and Berkman.

by littlevisigoth on May 15, 2008 4:29 PM CDT   0 recs

Yes

he’s pretty slow overall to the plate

Go 'Stros!

by Stros Bro on May 15, 2008 4:30 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Towles k's for the 3rd time

Last at bat he didn’t swing at a pitch, this one he didn’t lay off one…

Go 'Stros!

by Stros Bro on May 15, 2008 4:32 PM CDT   0 recs

10th K

for Lincecum by the way. i think that puts him in the lead in the MLB over Peavy.

by littlevisigoth on May 15, 2008 4:39 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

so much

for chasing Lincecum in the 6th. he’s at 105 pitches, but i’d be he at least starts the 7th.

by littlevisigoth on May 15, 2008 4:36 PM CDT   0 recs

guess not

it’s Taschner, a lefty

by littlevisigoth on May 15, 2008 4:43 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Matsui

having a pretty nice day, 2-3, with a double, walk, SB, and a run scored.

after his two out double, Taschner’s gone and Walker’s on. it’s the 7th inning and there’s two outs with the middle of our lineup up. here’s where the flurry of runs begins… right?

by littlevisigoth on May 15, 2008 4:48 PM CDT   0 recs

guess not again

Pence grounds out harmlessly to short. Would Tejada have done that in the three hole, Coop?

by littlevisigoth on May 15, 2008 4:52 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Borks in

we’re down four runs though, so he should go two scoreless.

by littlevisigoth on May 15, 2008 4:53 PM CDT   0 recs

Berkman with a blue star

snags a liner and doubles up Rowand, who was on first, all aparently while blowing a bubble.

by littlevisigoth on May 15, 2008 4:59 PM CDT   0 recs

holy crap

did we just tie this friggin’ game?

Tejada’s still available, too! wow!

by littlevisigoth on May 15, 2008 5:09 PM CDT   0 recs

I just woke up from a nap...

and started watching. Best possible moment to come in :)

by BTastros on May 15, 2008 5:10 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Ausmus walks

still only one out and the lineup flips for… oh.

well, still only one out.

by littlevisigoth on May 15, 2008 5:12 PM CDT   0 recs

Major league debut

for lefty Alex Hinshaw, now in the game.

by littlevisigoth on May 15, 2008 5:13 PM CDT   0 recs

this kid has a funky delivery.

tough spot for Bourn….lefty on lefty.

by clack on May 15, 2008 5:15 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

hmm

shoulda seen that coming.

by littlevisigoth on May 15, 2008 5:17 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Nice day for Matsui.

4 times on base. 3 hits. that last hit was on a pitch way low.

by clack on May 15, 2008 5:21 PM CDT   0 recs

Matsui smoking hot today

men on the corners for Pence. c’mon Hunter!

yet another move to the pen. double switch coming with the third reliever this inning, fourth in the game… Vinnie Chulk.

by littlevisigoth on May 15, 2008 5:21 PM CDT   0 recs

Brocail and Geary warming up

guess Coop knows not to stick with Borks in a close one.

by littlevisigoth on May 15, 2008 5:24 PM CDT   0 recs

Pence out on a nice catch of foul pop by 1st baseman.

I didn’t think they had a chance to get that pop up.
