Tonight's Opposing Picther: Hiroki Kuroda

He’s new to MLB this year, so you might not know him. He seems to be off to a pretty decent start with his 3.95 ERA. BUT He seems to slowly be getting worse (generally) with each start. He won his first game and hasn’t won one since. He has only lost two however and has 4 no decisions. He’s only gone 7 innings twice and has gone less than 6 twice as well. His last start, in fact, only lasted 3 and a 1/3 innings. He did have a good start right before that one.

The Astros offense should be able to handle Kuroda. He gives up about 1 home run per game so expect Lee or Berkman to hit a bomb today. We should be able to hit him up for about 3 or 4 today, knocking him out by the seventh, I’d predict.

Today's*

So used to games being at night. :p

by entropic soul on May 11, 2008 3:19 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Dodgers get the game's first hit

And Tejada makes ANOTHER error on the next ball in play. Men on first and third with one out.

Kemp caught stealing

Towles throws him out at 2nd.

by entropic soul on May 11, 2008 3:27 PM CDT   0 recs

Dodgers home run

2-0 Dodgers.
Annoucners talking about how the ball carries a lot better during the day than at night. Should be good for Berkman.

by entropic soul on May 11, 2008 3:28 PM CDT   0 recs

Berkman

sends one to the wall in center field… not quite far enough though. :(

Gagne quickly follows in Izzy's footsteps...

He is also relieved of his closer’s duties. story here

by entropic soul on May 11, 2008 3:41 PM CDT   0 recs

I saw this quote in the link...

“His stuff is great,” Yost said. “That’s not the problem. He’s throwing the ball really, really well. He’s just been beat down a little bit. He needs to take a step back and regain his confidence, make an adjustment or two and that’ll work.”

Sound familiar? Garner talking about Lidge?

by clack on May 11, 2008 3:48 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

He may have gotten to the point..

where he’s so worried about letting down his team and the fans that it becomes a self-fullfilling prophesy. That would explain why Lidge did well when the game wasn’t on the line and why he’s doing well now. Lidge, apparently, wasn’t able to get over that and Gagne might not be able to either.

Of course, maybe he was just juicing and isn’t anymore. :p

Chacon not doing so hot

Lead off hit for the Dodgers in the 2nd inning. Could the Chacon everyone thought we were getting in early Spring finally be here?

by entropic soul on May 11, 2008 3:43 PM CDT   0 recs

Strike out and a double play

That’s a little bit more like it. :p

Over in the Cubs/Diamondbacks game.

Stephen Drew just blew a chance to blow it wide open for the D-Backs. Bases loaded, 1 out. Let’s just say he’s probably been hanging out with Chris Burke a little too much.

Cards trying a last shot rally against the Brewers...

5-2 in the ninth. 2 on, two outs for the Cards. Yadier Molina is pinch hitting.

by entropic soul on May 11, 2008 3:56 PM CDT   0 recs

Yadier singles

5-3 Cards now with Kennedy batting. 2 on, two out. Chance to tie or even gain the lead now.

Terrible

Which reminds me.. what ever happened to Quintero? Is he still in our system?

by entropic soul on May 11, 2008 3:59 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

I would say maybe we should try..

the “new and improved” Quintero but he’s only hitting .. well, you just typed it in. :p

by entropic soul on May 11, 2008 4:04 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Dammit!

Dodgers just catching everything we hit in the air. I don’t think Berkman is going to get any more hits because we seem to be so unlucky today.

by entropic soul on May 11, 2008 4:06 PM CDT   0 recs

umps giving kuroda an expansive strike zone.

it would be nice if astros could get a hit.

by clack on May 11, 2008 4:10 PM CDT   0 recs

Berkman

Grounds into a force out and Lee Burkes. Pathetic.

by entropic soul on May 11, 2008 4:12 PM CDT   0 recs

Speaking of Chris Burke

He just got picked off for the 3rd out in the 6th inning. :p

by entropic soul on May 11, 2008 4:13 PM CDT   0 recs

Pence lost track of that double...

don’t know if he could have caught it, but it landed on warning track and Pence didn’t seem to know where it was.

chacon did well to get that last strike out..

I could understand some frustration in that inning. First, the double misplayed by Pence. Then an easy foul pop up fell between three Astros. Tejada may have dropped it because he thought he was about to be run over by Carlos Lee. Then Towles can’t go after another foul pop up because he hurt his hand.

by clack on May 11, 2008 4:27 PM CDT   0 recs

Tejada probably had to sign a waiver...

after watching the infamous Lee/Everett video. :p

by entropic soul on May 11, 2008 4:31 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Howdy

I don’t have the game today, but popped online to see what’s up. Have y’all seen this? Cracked me up.

75% of the Earth's surface is covered by water. . . the other 25% by Michael Bourn

Cubs update

Still losing 4-2 in the 7th now.

by entropic soul on May 11, 2008 4:33 PM CDT   0 recs

Matsui walks

I guess that’s something.

by entropic soul on May 11, 2008 4:49 PM CDT   0 recs

Strike out.

Weak. What a bunch of losers.

How quickly we turn.

Astros are a late inning club.

Then they will be winners.

While they are losing, they will remain losers, however.

Kuroda: do you know you have a no hitter after 6 innings?

Astros hitters need to keep asking him how the no hitter is goin’. Try to jinx him.

by clack on May 11, 2008 4:52 PM CDT   0 recs

HIT by Pence!!!!

Line drive past shortstop.

by clack on May 11, 2008 5:08 PM CDT   0 recs

Last no hitter

July 12th, 1997. Lost that game to the Pirates, 3-0. We are (were now) on our way to the worst offensive performance in 10+ years.

by entropic soul on May 11, 2008 5:09 PM CDT   0 recs

Cubs update

Cubs now winning 6-4. Wood in to close. 1 on, 1 out.

by entropic soul on May 11, 2008 5:11 PM CDT   0 recs

that's unusual....

Blum takes one pitch as a PHer and then Torre comes to get Kuroda.

by clack on May 11, 2008 5:13 PM CDT   0 recs

What the fuck?

I didn’t even know you could do that.

by entropic soul on May 11, 2008 5:14 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Double steal

Dodgers try to break Pence’s hand now.

by entropic soul on May 11, 2008 5:18 PM CDT   0 recs

I would pull erstad back for Lorettta..

and Cooper has the same thinking.

Bases loaded for Loretta. Seems like it has been a long time since Loretta batted.

by clack on May 11, 2008 5:18 PM CDT   0 recs

bases loaded walk...

and now all we have are lefthanders to face the LHP (Bourn and Erstad). That’s tough.

by clack on May 11, 2008 5:21 PM CDT   0 recs

Cruz is righthanded.

Well, S.

Yes, I am a nerd.

by TexSkins on May 11, 2008 5:22 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

That's exactly what the radio guys said.

You could also bat Ausmus since he’s coming in anyway. But again, who would want to.

Yes, I am a nerd.

by TexSkins on May 11, 2008 5:23 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Pence scores on a walk!

Of course, Bourn is out, which pretty much means the inning is over.

by entropic soul on May 11, 2008 5:21 PM CDT   0 recs

so close

Bourn needed a hit there. oh well

Astros fan for life

by Joe in Birmingham on May 11, 2008 5:25 PM CDT   0 recs

Kemp got turned around and almost missed bourn's fly ball....

broadcasters are praising Kemp’s catch….and yes it was an over his head catch, but he put himself in that position.

by clack on May 11, 2008 5:25 PM CDT   0 recs

dammit!

I’m so sick of them catching our balls way back there.

by entropic soul on May 11, 2008 5:26 PM CDT   0 recs

Lead off double for the Dodgers

We’ve had terribly bad luck today.

by entropic soul on May 11, 2008 5:28 PM CDT   0 recs

wright made two rookie mistakes on bunts

first, throwing error on a bunt. then next guy bunts and he ttries to hard to keep the guy from bunting successfully and gives up a walk. that could be the game too, unless astros can get to the Dodgers’ closer.

by clack on May 11, 2008 5:33 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

If nothing else...

you have Matsui, Tejada and Berkman coming up. Not a bad way to start a rally.

Yes, I am a nerd.

by TexSkins on May 11, 2008 5:37 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

It's been a rough day so far, but

if we get outta this inning we should have a good chance.

Bourn to Run!

by jsams on May 11, 2008 5:35 PM CDT   0 recs

fielding problems plague astros today

Had a DP, but Tejada’s throw to 1st was off-line.
