Shawn Chacon tries again, to get his 1st decision of the season as he starts his 8th game of the season. Chacon has been better than expected this season and brings a 3.60 ERA over 45 innings against the Dodgers and Hiroki Kuroda.
The Astros recent surge of wins has them with the 6th best record in the National League and 3rd best record in the NL Central. The Astros are 9th in all of baseball in runs scored at 177 and 14th in runs against at 161. Over the last 10 games the Astros have the best record in all of baseball, tied with the Rangers at 8-2.

Tonight's Opposing Picther: Hiroki Kuroda
He’s new to MLB this year, so you might not know him. He seems to be off to a pretty decent start with his 3.95 ERA. BUT He seems to slowly be getting worse (generally) with each start. He won his first game and hasn’t won one since. He has only lost two however and has 4 no decisions. He’s only gone 7 innings twice and has gone less than 6 twice as well. His last start, in fact, only lasted 3 and a 1/3 innings. He did have a good start right before that one.
The Astros offense should be able to handle Kuroda. He gives up about 1 home run per game so expect Lee or Berkman to hit a bomb today. We should be able to hit him up for about 3 or 4 today, knocking him out by the seventh, I’d predict.
Today's*
So used to games being at night. :p

Dodgers get the game's first hit
And Tejada makes ANOTHER error on the next ball in play. Men on first and third with one out.
Dodgers home run
2-0 Dodgers.
Annoucners talking about how the ball carries a lot better during the day than at night. Should be good for Berkman.
I saw this quote in the link...
“His stuff is great,” Yost said. “That’s not the problem. He’s throwing the ball really, really well. He’s just been beat down a little bit. He needs to take a step back and regain his confidence, make an adjustment or two and that’ll work.”
Sound familiar? Garner talking about Lidge?
He may have gotten to the point..
where he’s so worried about letting down his team and the fans that it becomes a self-fullfilling prophesy. That would explain why Lidge did well when the game wasn’t on the line and why he’s doing well now. Lidge, apparently, wasn’t able to get over that and Gagne might not be able to either.
Of course, maybe he was just juicing and isn’t anymore. :p

Chacon not doing so hot
Lead off hit for the Dodgers in the 2nd inning. Could the Chacon everyone thought we were getting in early Spring finally be here?
Strike out and a double play
That’s a little bit more like it. :p

Over in the Cubs/Diamondbacks game.
Stephen Drew just blew a chance to blow it wide open for the D-Backs. Bases loaded, 1 out. Let’s just say he’s probably been hanging out with Chris Burke a little too much.
Cards trying a last shot rally against the Brewers...
5-2 in the ninth. 2 on, two outs for the Cards. Yadier Molina is pinch hitting.
Yadier singles
5-3 Cards now with Kennedy batting. 2 on, two out. Chance to tie or even gain the lead now.

Terrible
Which reminds me.. what ever happened to Quintero? Is he still in our system?

the “new and improved” Quintero but he’s only hitting .. well, you just typed it in. :p

Dammit!
Dodgers just catching everything we hit in the air. I don’t think Berkman is going to get any more hits because we seem to be so unlucky today.
Pence lost track of that double...
don’t know if he could have caught it, but it landed on warning track and Pence didn’t seem to know where it was.

chacon did well to get that last strike out..
I could understand some frustration in that inning. First, the double misplayed by Pence. Then an easy foul pop up fell between three Astros. Tejada may have dropped it because he thought he was about to be run over by Carlos Lee. Then Towles can’t go after another foul pop up because he hurt his hand.
Tejada probably had to sign a waiver...
after watching the infamous Lee/Everett video. :p

I don’t have the game today, but popped online to see what’s up. Have y’all seen this? Cracked me up.

Kuroda: do you know you have a no hitter after 6 innings?
Astros hitters need to keep asking him how the no hitter is goin’. Try to jinx him.
Last no hitter
July 12th, 1997. Lost that game to the Pirates, 3-0. We are (were now) on our way to the worst offensive performance in 10+ years.
What the fuck?
I didn’t even know you could do that.

I would pull erstad back for Lorettta..
and Cooper has the same thinking.
Bases loaded for Loretta. Seems like it has been a long time since Loretta batted.
bases loaded walk...
and now all we have are lefthanders to face the LHP (Bourn and Erstad). That’s tough.
That's exactly what the radio guys said.
You could also bat Ausmus since he’s coming in anyway. But again, who would want to.
Yes, I am a nerd.
so close
Bourn needed a hit there. oh well

Kemp got turned around and almost missed bourn's fly ball....
broadcasters are praising Kemp’s catch….and yes it was an over his head catch, but he put himself in that position.
wright made two rookie mistakes on bunts
first, throwing error on a bunt. then next guy bunts and he ttries to hard to keep the guy from bunting successfully and gives up a walk. that could be the game too, unless astros can get to the Dodgers’ closer.
Missed catch error given to Matsui
That’s bull.

If nothing else...
you have Matsui, Tejada and Berkman coming up. Not a bad way to start a rally.
Yes, I am a nerd.
It's been a rough day so far, but
if we get outta this inning we should have a good chance.
Bourn to Run!
Don't have much hope...
after getting no hit for 6 innings, it seems we might need 13 more to get two more runs.

6 hits, 5 runs...
and as I type that th first extra base hit. 7 hits (6 singles), 5 runs, and only 1 out.
Yes, I am a nerd.
7-3 and still batting
Except the Astros had only 1 hit in the first 7 innigs, the score looks like a laugher!

Not that it's near over...
....but this seems like some sweet retribution for some of the blown games we had very early on in the season. Chacon is the new Clemens (minus the roids – allegedly, but without the early run support).
Crap
Let’s hope not. How long has Wandy been out now?

Placed on 15-day DL on April 20th
To answer my own question. It’ll be at least a month of down time before he pitches again, though—they haven’t even set a rehab start yet.

Lonney burkes for the 2nd out of the 8th
4 outs left.
Radio guys say Chacon just tied the all time MLB record for consecutive starts without a decision.
Atlanta's game postponed today
So no chance for Chipper’s batting avarege to go down today. Berkman’s sits .382 now.
Radio guys were talking about Brocail...
and he said he could be a closer but he thinks he’s more valuable to a team by being able to pitch multiple innings and on consecuative days.
That’s the type of guy you want on your team. Like clack likes to say… how many days in a row can they pitch Brocail until his arm falls off?
Yes, I am a nerd.

Loud bang too. He was stunned, but held onto the ball.
