Chris Sampson's ERA is getting close to a run per inning, and he's giving up almost 2 walks/hits per inning... so is this the last start before he gets moved to the bullpen?  Moehler had a good outing last night by going 5 full innings without giving up a run... but then again, it was just 1 good outing.  Sampson has given up 5 runs in his last 2 outings and failed to make it into the 6th inning in either game.  He needs to get his act together.  He says he's been working on his mechanics and all of that jazz... well, it better produce some results tonight.

After losing 4 straight games, Billingsley seems to have turned it around and has now won 2 in a row.  In his last two games he's pitched 13 innings and only allowed 2 runs.

Another ridiculous start time of 9:10PM today... I can understand why last nights game started at 9:40 PM here...  I understand that the traffic in LA is terrible on Friday nights and it's only logical for them that they have the game start at 7:40PM their time... but today is a Saturday!   I don't understand that.  It would be easy for them to start the game at say 5 or 6 PM...  Oh well...

The Cubs and Cardinals have already won tonight, so there's no chance to gain any ground on 1st or 2nd place...

Cards and Cubs wins

I was sort of half assed watching these two games earlier and…

In the Cards/Brewers game.. pretty low scoring affair, but it was tied 3-3 going into the ninth. You’ll never guess who blew this game for the Brewers. None other than Eric Gagne. (Big surprise, I know.) A two out, bases loaded line drive by Ryan Ludwick sealed this one up for the Cards. Gagne now has 2 losses and 5 blown saves in 14 opportunities with an ERA of 6.89. As you may have read, the Cards have temporarily dropped Izzy from the closer’s role, otherwise this game might have had a different ending. Ryan Franklin got the save. Former Astro Russ Springer was called in to pitch the eighth and got the win.

In the Diamondbacks/Cubs game… you’ll never guess who blew this one for the D-Backs. (I actually mean it this time.) The D-Backs had a 2-1 lead in the seventh until the Cubs used Chad Qualls for batting practice. The Cubs scored 6 in the inning, four of those were charged to Qualls. Qualls only pitched a third of an inning and the one out he did get was on a sacrifice bunt. Qualls now with 4 losses and 3 blown saves in 4 opportunities.

I'm watching without sound...

Are they saying much about Tejada’s injury/hbp? how did Matsui and Tejada advance?

Forgot to tune in. Thought it started at 9:40 :p

Nice double, good for 2 RBI’s.

I might be happy with 5 innings if he holds them down...

I may be wrong, but I’m starting to think that Sampson is the type of pitcher who can’t let the hitters see him three times through the order.

Ok,

we seriously need to get a hitting coach that can teach bunting.

Woohoo....Bourn with a hit up the middle...

those have been rare, so we’ll celebrate.

The Bus drives home more passengers

OK, that was lame.. but I’ll take a 2 run single anytime.

PUMA!

Nice hit, but Tejada out at home.

Berkman doubles, but Tejada thrown out at 3d

Some baserunning problems cost the Astros 2 runs

by clack on May 10, 2008 9:45 PM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

the catcher was waiting with the ball...

which makes me think the 3d base coach made a mistake. Tejada tried to evade the tag on his slide, but he had little chance.

From Ortiz's blog at Chron.com
If Berkman gets a hit in his first official at-bat tonight, it will make him 19 for his last 25 AB’s. The St. Louis Cardinals’ Albert Pujols, who was 19-for-25 from May 30-June 7, 2003, is the only player in the last 50 years to go on a 19-for-25 run.

Done.

I am glad

I am at home and not at school so I actually get to watch the ‘Stros!

Chipper Jones

Batting average down to .400 after today’s Braves game. Berkman’s up to .385 after today’s double.

And Wiggy’s now down to .227 with a useless strike out.

Wow.. what a weak throw by Towles

Pitch out on Piere, looked like Towles slipped when throwing it.. so I won’t hold it against him.

Go 'Stros!

Matsui out

Sounded like a strong hit, but lines out.

That's four scoreless for Sampson

Maybe he figured out whatever he needed to figure out.
Or maybe the Dogders are just that cold.

1-2-3 5th for Billingsly..

What happened? Did we quit playing?

by entropic soul on May 10, 2008 10:37 PM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Tejada missed a pop up...

I’m glad I wasn’t watching. It sounded bad.

Yes, I am a nerd.

by TexSkins on May 10, 2008 10:45 PM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Yeah

At least the next play was a bounce out to Tejada which means Lonney couldn’t advance home.

Berkman!

Holds Looney at 3rd while making the second out.

Must be frustrating for Dogder fans.

Berkman not only a hot bat tonight

But a hot glove!
Makes a diving stop and tosses to Sampson for the last out.

Andruw Jones

must have Georgia on his mind a lot this season.

Are Sampson and Moehler this good?

or have the Astros finally caught a team in a horrible slump.

I'd say in between...

losing Furcal can’t help. The Dodgers had been hot but it looks like they’re finally cooling off.

At the same time, don’t expect 5, 6, 7 scoreless from your starters very often.

Yes, I am a nerd.

Wow, good defensive play...Matsui and Berkman

Great play by Matsui ranging behind 2d, and good pick up by Berkman on the bounce throw.

Crap!! Lead off walk in 9th.

What is it about the 9th? Wright’s control was excellent until we get to the 9th.

Hold on to your seats, Villareal coming in.

by clack on May 10, 2008 11:51 PM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

With Villareal in the game....

it’s like we are counting on the Dodgers being in a slump.

There we go!

20-17 now. No move in the NL Central standings.
