Second LHP in 5 games
I think.
Anyway, Soto is catching for the Cubs today and the Brewers were 5 for 5 in steals againt him in the last series, so we should be running like crazy during this series.
3 quick outs
Top of our order goes down pretty fast. I hope t his slow start doesn't cause Cooper to start messing with the line up.
coop
agree w/ your thought, esp since I believe that managers have a relatively insignificant part in w/l over the course of a season.
it would be interesting to study whether a good manager can improve a bad team, or vice versa. difficulty in actually defining "good" and "bad" in terms of managers though.
radio affiliates?
what good is it having a radio network if they don't broadcast any games?
I know the reasons and that it's not going to change, but it sucks that the Astros affiliate in Austin hasn't broadcast any of the games so far this week. Right now we've got Jim Rome, instead of the game. Why bother?
Hunter looks horrible
He is pulling off the ball so bad right now. That last pitch was down but right over the plate and he pulled way off. And he needs to be more selective. Off to a bad start
My first mistake was assuming you knew what I was talking about.
I would rather
have Matsui back, hitting second right now.

Cubs done.
They didn't fare any better than. Sampson used one more pitch than Lilly to get through the first inning. Now we see if our Lee has more luck than theirs. :p
And Sampson Ks.
Hill got himself in, and then back out, of a jam without any damage.
0-0, middle of the 2nd.
Phear T.S.'s Crawdaddies...
Sampson gets him to GIDP...
end of the 2nd. I'm not watching, but it seems like Sampson is cruising. I've got him at 17 pitches through 2. Hil''s at 26.
Phear T.S.'s Crawdaddies...
Bourn quickly to 3-0...
takes for 3-1, then walks. If Hill wasn't a lefty, I'd say he'd be running first pitch. We'll see.
Phear T.S.'s Crawdaddies...
Soto wants to get to the next inning
He really loves catching. :p

Hill makes Sampson work...
and by work, I mean 5 pitches before striking out.
End of 3, 0-0. Sampson at 25 pitches through 3. Nice.
Miggy due up first.
Phear T.S.'s Crawdaddies...
Wigginton quickly down 0-2...
takes a ball before striking out himself. 2 Ks in a row for Hill.
Loretta up.
Phear T.S.'s Crawdaddies...
Sampson grounds out...
but Towles puts the Astros up.
2-0, middle of the 4th. Top of the order due up for the Cubs. Soriano, Theriot, Lee.
Hill at 59 pitches.
Phear T.S.'s Crawdaddies...
The pitching then?
You know every time we score, the pitching comes back and gives up more runs. :p

Yes!
Towles! I like it when any Astro homers, but I especially like it when an Astro on my fantasy team homers! Woot!
no kidding
i've got Towles as well, but unfortunately our H2H league started a week late, so I don't think stats from this week count. still, I'm happy.
I almost picked him up for today...
because Posada has been out. Always a day too late.
Phear T.S.'s Crawdaddies...
Well...
it would be the 2nd time for the Cubs and the 3rd for the Astros. Advantage to the batter the 3rd time through.
Phear T.S.'s Crawdaddies...
More hits Astros
But end result the same

Absolutely
One of those running catches in which he went airborne (air-Bourn?) as he caught it and managed to hang on as he ate grass on the landing.
Given my signature, maybe we should start calling him Waterboy? Or maybe AirBourn will do.
75% of the Earth's surface is covered by water. . . the other 25% by Michael Bourn
lance took off on the pitch, carlos singled to LF, but apparently lance got faked out by the 2B and went headlong into second. I'm listening on the internet and gamecast.
are the announcers
having fun pronouncing his name? juvenile, i know, but entertaining nonetheless...
not surprising
JD & Brownie are always straight. I think JD substitutes "darn" for "damn" in the the Best Damn Sports Show ever.
Top 6 - Wigginton, Loretta, Towles
Sampson under 50 pitches through 5 innings. Exact number a little unclear. Gamecast says 41, radio said 46.
Radio guys
make it sound like JR gave it a ride, just hung up in the alley long enough for Fukodome to track it down.
Hill @ 88 pitches
has faced 26 batters to Sampson's 16. If Pie doesn't reach, Pinella may let him hit. Don't know what their bullpen situation has been like the past week.
Wigginton made it exciting
Bobbled the pickup and then nearly pulled Berkman off the bag into foul territory
Bourn - K's swinging
started the AB with another foul bunt (I like that Bourn is trying this. keep them honest)
two down
9 ground ball outs, 9 fly ball outs
radio says he's got good movement on the FB, and his breaking stuff is good, although he hasn't used it as much.
Ramirez singles to 3B
another first pitch strike. not sure about the single to third. have to wait until radio talks about it.
Wigginton knocked it down behind the bag
apparently was so far behind the bag he didn't have a chance at first.
Ramirez on 1st, 1 out.
Fukudome singles to RF
Ramirez advances to 2nd.
men on 1st and 2nd, 1 out.
Wesley Wright up in the bullpen.
Fukudome's hit wasn't really a screamer
Loretta was at DP depth, sounds like he still might have had a shot on a roller through the hole @ second.
DeRosa out - grounds out to 3B
Radio said he's getting more pitches up this inning.
Ramirez to 3B. Two out.
I have to think
many if not most 3rd baseman get something on that ball. that was no more than 3-4 ft for Wigginton.
That is poor
My first mistake was assuming you knew what I was talking about.
I wondered if that might be true
not watching on TV. What about the hit to RF by Fukudome? Should Loretta have picked that one up?
they were at DP positioning
maybe someone with better range like matsui. He came real close so I think Matsui would have stopped it but FUKU runs well and no play by any 2B I think.
Wiggy just missed it. I replayed it on tivo and the ball was 3ft to Wigs left and his swipe missed the ball. He was in position to make the play he wiffed though.
My first mistake was assuming you knew what I was talking about.
Wesley Wright
Any Wire fans here? I think he looks like Marlo. Which is AWESOME for a relief pitcher IMO.
It's frustrating
the internet feed is about a batter and a half behind Gameday, yet Gameday has all these weird pauses.
Tejada TRIPLES down the 3b line, LF mishandled it a little bit apparently, and Berkman scored from 1B
Soriano really whiffed on that triple by Tejada
He misread the carom off the wall down the LF foul line and missed the ball by about 2 feet (at least). So the ball bounced back into LF and allowed the score and Miggy to third. Would have been a double no doubt, but I'm not sure if Berkman scores or not.
Love the in game replays on Gameday now.
now coop brings in Doug Brocail
hailed as a v. canny move by Coop, to keep DWard on the bench for the cubbies. not sure it's really that brilliant, but I'm OK w/ it. If you're going to face DWard, leading off an inning is as good a time as any.
Ward now PH for Cedeno
Brocail to face Ward, nobody on, nobody out. Guess we did make Pinella burn Cedeno
I picked up Brocail
on Waivers the other day in our Crawfish Boxes league. :p He better not mess up.

Ramirez up w/ two on
first and 3rd. Theriot advanced to 3rd on D. Lee's single. he was running on the pitch.
not quite sure....
how Brocail gets people out....but he got out of that jam with a K. I'll take it.
Top 9 - Towles, pinch hitter for pitcher, Bourn
Valverde was warming in the pen. Radio says the 2 runs the Astros scored in the 8th were unearned (guess b/c of DeRosa's error)
Piniella out-witting himself?
He has a questionable defense out there now: Daryl Ward in LF; Soriano at 2b; DeRosa at 3b.
no kidding
sounds like Soriano almost misplayed Towles grounder. When was the last time Soriano played 2B?
more than two
it was with the Nationals that he threw his toys out of the pram saying he did not want to play outfield.
Coop wants to get Erstad a start
maybe against a RHP tomorrow. Oh joy. Although radio said Zambrano will be pushed back from tomorrow to Sunday. Can't remember who the starter will be tomorrow. It will come to me.
Gameday says Wuertz is a righty
I think that is correct, but it's been a while since I've seen him. I'm surprised that Erstad hits at all, and is even on the roster.
OK...I thought broadcasters
said he was lefty, but I might have mis-heard or they may have made a mistake.
Fukudome out - pop out to Tejada
quickly to 0-2.
got him on 3 pitches.
MLB Audio has gone silent. maybe my internet is FUBAR.
DeRosa - Home Run to LF
starts off w/ a changeup outside.
MLB Audio came on just in time for that. Thanks a lot.
Soto out - Lee made a good catch on a line drive to left
"Carlos lumbering forward..." according to radio, lol
Game over. Astros Win!
Wright gets the win.
Valverde the save.
Lieber the loss.
Towles & Tejada get big RBI and Wigginton's sac fly to drive home Tejada looks really big after DeRosa's drive in the 9th. Give an assist on Soriano for atrocious OF defense on that one.
good night America, wherever you are.
Solid games
Solid games from Sampson, Tejada, and Towles
Wesley gets the win... maybe some of our starters can win a couple at some point
Wow, I missed a nice game
Sorry abou the terrible game thread.. I woke up at 5:55 this morning and had to leave at 6:00 and had just enough time to set up the schedule for the post... :)
Go 'Stros!
