Second LHP in 5 games

I think.
Anyway, Soto is catching for the Cubs today and the Brewers were 5 for 5 in steals againt him in the last series, so we should be running like crazy during this series.

3 quick outs

Top of our order goes down pretty fast. I hope t his slow start doesn't cause Cooper to start messing with the line up.

coop

agree w/ your thought, esp since I believe that managers have a relatively insignificant part in w/l over the course of a season.

it would be interesting to study whether a good manager can improve a bad team, or vice versa. difficulty in actually defining "good" and "bad" in terms of managers though.

gamecast weather

the addition of the current conditions in the lower left corner is a nice touch.

radio affiliates?

what good is it having a radio network if they don't broadcast any games?

I know the reasons and that it's not going to change, but it sucks that the Astros affiliate in Austin hasn't broadcast any of the games so far this week. Right now we've got Jim Rome, instead of the game. Why bother?

by lnewcomer on Apr 4, 2008 1:29 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Hunter looks horrible

He is pulling off the ball so bad right now. That last pitch was down but right over the plate and he pulled way off. And he needs to be more selective. Off to a bad start

My first mistake was assuming you knew what I was talking about.

by Shamus on Apr 4, 2008 1:29 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

I would rather

have Matsui back, hitting second right now.

by entropic soul on Apr 4, 2008 1:32 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

wow, that was quick

sampson @ 11 pitches. hill @ 10. nice to see chris get two ground outs.

by lnewcomer on Apr 4, 2008 1:33 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Cubs done.

They didn't fare any better than. Sampson used one more pitch than Lilly to get through the first inning. Now we see if our Lee has more luck than theirs. :p

Tejada doubles...

Wigginton with a chance.

by TexSkins on Apr 4, 2008 1:38 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Sampson gets him to GIDP...

end of the 2nd. I'm not watching, but it seems like Sampson is cruising. I've got him at 17 pitches through 2. Hil''s at 26.

Bourn quickly to 3-0...

takes for 3-1, then walks. If Hill wasn't a lefty, I'd say he'd be running first pitch. We'll see.

Fielder's choice...

Bourn out, Pence on 1st. 1 out, Berkman due up.

by lnewcomer on Apr 4, 2008 2:16 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Absolutely

One of those running catches in which he went airborne (air-Bourn?) as he caught it and managed to hang on as he ate grass on the landing.

Given my signature, maybe we should start calling him Waterboy? Or maybe AirBourn will do.

I have to think

many if not most 3rd baseman get something on that ball. that was no more than 3-4 ft for Wigginton.

That is poor

My first mistake was assuming you knew what I was talking about.

by Shamus on Apr 4, 2008 3:07 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

by lnewcomer on Apr 4, 2008 3:08 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

they were at DP positioning

maybe someone with better range like matsui. He came real close so I think Matsui would have stopped it but FUKU runs well and no play by any 2B I think.

Wiggy just missed it. I replayed it on tivo and the ball was 3ft to Wigs left and his swipe missed the ball. He was in position to make the play he wiffed though.

My first mistake was assuming you knew what I was talking about.

It's frustrating

the internet feed is about a batter and a half behind Gameday, yet Gameday has all these weird pauses.

Tejada TRIPLES down the 3b line, LF mishandled it a little bit apparently, and Berkman scored from 1B

by lnewcomer on Apr 4, 2008 3:18 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Soriano really whiffed on that triple by Tejada

He misread the carom off the wall down the LF foul line and missed the ball by about 2 feet (at least). So the ball bounced back into LF and allowed the score and Miggy to third. Would have been a double no doubt, but I'm not sure if Berkman scores or not.

Love the in game replays on Gameday now.

by lnewcomer on Apr 4, 2008 3:23 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

now coop brings in Doug Brocail

hailed as a v. canny move by Coop, to keep DWard on the bench for the cubbies. not sure it's really that brilliant, but I'm OK w/ it. If you're going to face DWard, leading off an inning is as good a time as any.

Wright gets the win.
Valverde the save.

Towles & Tejada get big RBI and Wigginton's sac fly to drive home Tejada looks really big after DeRosa's drive in the 9th. Give an assist on Soriano for atrocious OF defense on that one.
