Oswalt to leave Houston?
If you read my last post, you are familiar with my current disdain for ESPN. I am watching Baseball Tonight and have learned the following:
Peter Gammons states that he has talked to a couple of Oswalt's teammates and that his first priority is to win and he is more than happy than to waive his no-trade clause to go to a contender. Gammons also stated that he's sure that "Hank Steinbrenner would be happy to here that."
Infuriated; Clack, Stros Bro, Entropic - calm me down please.

The Yankee/Sox network, I mean, ESPN....
goes through an annual ritual of making up rumors about the Astros trading off pitchers to the Yankees. Remember in 2005, in the midst of the Astros’ terrible start, ESPN and other east coast media outlets constantly talked about how Clemens and Pettitte would be on the market to “save” the Yankees (after Randy Johnson was injured). It didn’t happen. But Shawn Chacon did save the Yankees’ pitching staff that year.
Drayton won't let it happen
If Oswalt were to be traded mid-season it would be for a Santana sized haul – at least. Otherwise the Astros won’t give him up.
It's the next generation of Astros. Let's see if they can play like the men they are replacing.
Another year
another Roy-O rumor. unfortunately in the sports “reporting” world, rumors beget rumors. even if the initial ones are completely debunked (as they were), now reporters get to say that he was “rumored to be on the trading block” in years past, which somehow is enough ammo to run with another story about him ‘possibly” getting traded this year.
we’re all guilty of paying WAY too much attention to these clowns, so they continue to get away with feeding us garbage, cause we’ll be back tomorrow for more, even if just to say what idiots they are.

Why would his teammates say...
that he is more than happy to be traded to another team? That doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to me.
i thought it was
a couple of EX teammates.

ex-teammates makes sense....
Perhaps Ensberg and Pettitte would tell Gammons that….since they are Yankees now.
I'm disappointed in Gammons
who used to stick to the facts and was one of the few sources of insightful baseball information on the air. Now he’s just fallen into the toilet with the rest of them…....
It takes more than pitching to win a pennant, but not much!
LOLOLOL
There’s no way in hell Drayton gets rid of Oswalt.
This is my first post btw. Just joined. I’m originally from burntorangenation.com. Hopefully I’ll be posting here more often.
Still can’t believe there’s no Rockets site on SB Nation yet!

No worries
Don’t we pretty much hear this every year? Roy seems happy to be here as long as he is happy playing baseball and the Astros still want him…
Anways, Roy denies the claims.
Go 'Stros!
i've got Roy on my fantasy team
and for those of you that don’t use Yahoo! for fantasy baseball, they run blurbs from various “news” outlets on all the players as they come up. needless to say i was a little peeved to see this flat out untruth from Rotowire:

Though not inaccurate in a literal sense....
that little blurb really distorts the context of Roy’s quote. It’s funny that the NY media was lauding Cashman and Hank Steinbrenner for opting out of the Santana sweepstakes. Now that the Yankees’ rotation hasn’t turned out to be as dominating as they thought, the media begins to think that the Yankees made a mistake….and now they are looking around for any idea they can dream up to “correct” the misjudgement over Santana.
Am the only one...
Who isn’t completely adverse to the idea? I recognize we’ve been playing some decent ball as of late, but our minor leagues are completely depleted, and this team’s window seems incredibly small. I went into this season expecting 88 or so losses and honestly, I’m not totally averse to taking a few lumps if it means in 3-4 years this team is a perennial contender for the next decade.

I absolutely love the guy...
But I think he deserves the chance to play for a World Series contender, and as long as Ed Wade is our general manager, I’m highly skeptical that will ever be a reality. Why not thank him for his tremendous contributions to a golden age of Astros baseball while simultaneously filling key needs and adding organizational depth in the process?

I'm against trading Roy O.
The Astros will never get enough in return for Oswalt to justify the trade. The teams who could bid on him would be very limited. Because of his no trade clause, he could limit the teams to which he would be traded (and, according to Ortiz’s blog, he would not play in NYC) and he could demand a Santana-size contract in return for agreeing to waive the no trade clause. I thought the Twins didn’t get a good return on the Santana trade, and if that is representative of what Roy O could bring, I wouldn’t do it. Now, if a young pitcher like Lincecum, Clay Buchholz , or Joba Chamberlin, is part of the return package, I think you would have to think about it. But right now, no team is willing to trade those type of players because budding potential superstar pitchers are too valuable.
Not that this is likely to happen
after the Danny Haren trade, but just out of curiosity…. if Randy Johnson were to go down, would you ever consider trading him to the Dbacks?
I’m sure you’d theoretically like to trade him to an AL team, if at all, but we’re also not division rivals….?
Or are you unlikely to trade with us again after Qualls has outperformed Papa Grande?

Qualls is due for an implosion...
I just hope its while the Stros are still in town.
Phear T.S.'s Crawdaddies...
I wouldn't trade Oswalt
To any team… Doesn’t matter if they are AL or NL. He’s too good of a player and I still have hopes the Astros are going to be a good team before Oswalt retires.
Go 'Stros!
Fair enough.
Yeah, I can see that.
You mean “good team again”, right? You guys were just in the series a few years back…
