Some things that might make you feel better
The Orioles, Royals and Marlins are each leading their divisions. The Orioles have the best record in baseball.
The World Series favorites, Detroit Tigers, are 1-7 and didn't win a game until their eighth.
The Yankees, Mets, Red Sox and Braves all have losing records.
We're tied for the lead in Stolen Bases in the Majors with 11 and of those teams, we have the highest stolen base percentage with 92%.
We are second in fielding percentage with .994
A lot of big names out there with batting averages lower than Hunter Pence:
Here are a few:
David Ortiz: .091
Miguel Cabrera: .125
Mark Teixeira: .167
Alfonso Soriano: .132

That does make me feel better. A little. Maybe we can also add in, "The 21st century Astros don't really bother winning until some time in August anyway"

It would make me feel better
If the Astros can win a few series.
It's the next generation of Astros. Let's see if they can play like the men they are replacing.

Hard to feel better
It's early, I know, it's early:
BUT, as of this writing:
Astros rank 30th of 30 MLB temas in BA, OBP, and OPS.
Astros rank 24th in ERA.
Astros rank 9th in Runs Allowed.
One note for optimism - it can't get worse.... can it?
It takes more than pitching to win a pennant, but not much!

Not feeling much better
At least Quintero cleared waivers (still can't believe that).

Umm
Stolen bases, or even percentage, is NOT the statistic on which to lay your hat.
Especially since the guy who's given you more than half of them is gonna be in Round Rock by July, probably sooner.
On the other hand, Pence will be OK, I am absolutely, well, ALMOST absolutely sure of this.
But he can't fix our bullpen . . . and neither can Roy, assuming HE gets straightened out.
I'm not saying that the prognosticators and their fifth-place projections were necessarily right, but Pence and Lee and Tejada and Berkman are going to have to rake all season long for us to have a prayer in September.
So far, we've gotten real production from only Lance and Miggy, and even they've got room for improvement.
I'll end up liking Tejada. . . . just give me some time

So you think....
Bourn will be sent down to AAA? I admit to some concern over his hitting. I'm not even sure that trying to make him bunt is a good idea. When I was voting on the poll about who would be replaced first, I thought about voting for Bourn. But after thinking about it, I suspect he will stay no matter what. He is the "make or break" player for Wade's tenure, and I don't think he will readily send him down. Also, Bourn does show enough brilliance on defense in CF that moving him out of that role will have negative impact on the defense.
The combination of all the young guys' struggling is what hurts. It seems like they are starting to pitch Towles like Pence, hoping that he will struggle with the breaking pitches. Maybe Quintero gets his chance if Towles ends up needing more time in AAA.
