Houston Astros Release Woody Williams

HOUSTON -- The Houston Astros announced today that the club has asked for waivers on right-handed pitcher Woody Williams for the purpose of giving him his unconditional release. The announcement was made by general manager Ed Wade.

It's sad to see Woody go, but it needed to happen. This means that Sampson will indeed be the 5th starter for the Astros... at least for now.

I appreciate the fact that he goes out with some classy comments:

"When I signed here I had high expectations and so did they," Williams said. "I didn't hold up my end of the deal."

"I want to say thank you to the Astros."

I agree with Woody Williams

and I'm glad the Astros made this decision --It was easy on merit, but hard on circumstance.
