Dallas McPherson ?

There is a lot of talk about us trading Wiggington , Valverde, and now even Tejada. If we trade Wiggy I have a possible solution for 3rd base his name is Dallas Mcpherson. He jacked 42 homer in triple A last year he was also a top prospect in the Angles Organaztion until he threw out his back. Here is the bad he had 2 disk fused and was off the entire 07 season. Florida signned him to a low ball deal. He signed a one year deal in jan of 08. So If i am thinking right and I may not be he should be a free agent? Here are his numbers from triple a .275 average 42 HR 98 RBI. I think he could be a nice replacement for wiggy if we trade him.

That name has been all over the big leagues for the past couple of seasons, mainly for the reasons you’ve said. I think just about every team has thought about making a play for him. However, there is a reason he has had over 2200 minor league AB’s and under 400 major AB’s. He always seems to be either hurt or when he gets his shot he doesn’t perform. At 28 he will already be past his peak years and I would assume he is limited on options at this point. Lastly, I still think The Marlins are giving him another shot at 3B this spring.

But I agree with you that we should be looking to see what’s out there and anyone that can slug like he can should be given a long look. In the post-Ensberg era I was pushing for a move to get him, back when he was the 2nd best prospect in The Angels system.

Who knows

Yes I believe that Dallas is a free agent by the way. And I also agree that he may be a really good guy to take a chance on in order to replace Tejada. But, I think that the chance we would be taking is huge. He has not proven that he can still hit like he did in 2008, having only had 11 AB’s since his injury. Before he was hurt he was obviously a power hitter, but now with a possible lingering back problem who knows how well he will produce. It is really a shame that things like this have to happen to anyone. I feel for the guy and I really hope that he is able to get back on track. But as far as replacing Miggy with him, I’m not so sure. Miggy may be going down hill as his age is catching up with him, but we know what he will produce and if we do trade him we certainly need to know what we are getting in return.

I'm fairly certain he remains under Marlins' team control...

He service time is such that the Marlins would continue to have him under team control through the arbitration years. The Marlins have plans for him, from what I’ve read. He is the back up plan which allows the Marlins to trade Uggla or move Cantu to 1st base. The fact that McPherson signed as a free agent in between doesn’t change his service time. Example: Wiggy was released by the Pirates and signed as a free agent with Tampa Bay, but he continued to be under team control, as evidenced by the fact that he is in his last year of arb eligibility with the Astros.
