Sheets drawing Interest from Yankees

Espn is reporting that the New York Yankees are showing som interest in Ben Sheets. Here is a link http://insider.espn.go.com/espn/blog/index?entryID=3745862&searchName=stark_jayson&campaign=rsssrch&source=jayson_stark&univLogin02=stateChanged. Here it s broken down There's increasing buzz about the Yankees' interest in Ben Sheets, possibly an indication that they're not confident they're going to be able to sign Burnett. As this blog noted two weeks ago, the difference between Burnett's and Sheets' 2008 and career numbers are smaller than you'd think. So we may not be getting Sheets!!!!

I never thought we were getting Sheets. We were all just being optimistic and wishfully hopeing. Sheets will cost us a 1st round pick and besides being a CONTENDER (I emphasize contender instead of champion) re-stocking our farm system is the No.1 objective for our front office. We are not going to sign an injury risk Starting Pitcher for $14 mill and throw away a 1st round draft pick.

Don’t get me wrong….. I would love to have Sheets (or Peavy for that matter) on our team but I understand Wade not wanting to give up a draft pick.

thats why

i think peavy is more reasonable…it would not cost us a pick and will likely free up more moeny then what we had originally

Not suprising...

Yankees probably are doing this to get more leverage in their negotiations with Sabbathia. I had read that Sheets would be something like a 4th choice for the Yankees, behind Sabbathia, Burnett, and Lowe. I’m sure they will start making contacts with pitchers farther down their list in order to make a credible threat that their big offer to Sabbathia won’t be there forever.
