I had a better feeling about Zaun anyway. He was, after all, dubbed the Practically Perfect Backup Catcher. He’s a switch hitter and looks to have an OBP in the low to mid-300’s (and we desperately need OBP).

My concerns:
- Last year he made $3.75 mil. Such an outrageous figure might give McLane an aneurysm
- His offensive production has been slowly declining over the last three years
- When I saw a picture of him, at first I thought it was Woody Williams. And that ain’t a good sign.

Zaun was angry with the Blue Jays last year because he felt he deserved to start.

However, at his age, he really should expect to be used as a back up/platoon catcher. I wonder if he would become a problem if he didn’t get the bulk of the playing time at catcher? I agree that he is likely to cost more than the Astros want to spend. When he was with the Astros in the early 2000’s, he was a horrible defensive catcher. I am under the impression that he has become an adequate defensive catcher in recent years.

I didn’t know he was grumpy about not starting. Maybe he’s not such a great fit here after all.

Zaun

Is waaaaay more grizzly looking than Williams. I dig.

A good friend of mine used to say, "This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

yeah

but his plate appearance music is “Tom Sawyer.” I’d pay 3.75 million for that.

The space he invades...

Yeah, that seems like a reasonable figure.
