Astros Acquire Tyler Lumsden from the Royals for a PTBNL
Lumsden, 25, has posted 4.89 ERA in 425 IP, tallying 245 K to 201 BB. The LHP, from Clemson, was named the 5th most valuable prospect in the Royals System by Baseball America in 2007.
I wonder who the PTBNL will be?

Yeah, he hasn't made his MLB debut yet.
I like this. Pick up guys off the scrap heap. Given that Lumsden is a 25 year old pitcher who essentially blew up when he made the jump to AAA, I don’t think that the Royals will get anything remotely substantial in return. If it works out, it works out, and if it doesn’t, it didn’t cost much. Making the little trades like this one is what – gradually – builds an organization.

Those stats are his summed MiLB experience.
His AAA stats are ROUGH.

A good friend of mine used to say, "This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

It's PTBNL or cash as compensation.
Don’t be surprised if the Astros end up paying $75,000 or so for the transaction. This trade is not a big deal…well, unless the Astros hit the lottery and the kid turns into Johan Santana. Wade tries to downplay the transaction and he should. No reason to get anyone’s hopes up. As Wade says, this is a routine type hunt for diamonds in the rough. A LHP who throws 94 mph is always worth a risk.

This is like buying a Lexus for $50 from a friend because it hasn’t run well for a while and he doesn’t have room in his garage. You do it just in case it’s a simple fix like getting a new battery. If it’s not that easy, well then, no big deal.
They like his velocity, and maybe Burt Hooten saw something in the guy that he thinks he can fix.

Lord, I hope so.
At least I’ll have a reason to make it over to an Express game in the spring…Bougie, Sutton…this guy.

Looking at BA’s description of him when he was ranked as the Royals’ #5 prospect, his weakness is that he doesn’t do a good job of repeating his mechanics and ends up throwing across his body. I’m guessing that he hasn’t really fixed that. Maybe working with a different set of coaches can help straighten that out. You know, the old “change-of-scenery” thing.

Yeah...
But from all the mechanics stuff I’ve ever read, it’s next to impossible to completely overhaul something like that. I also have no idea the extent of that flaw, nor am I an expert on pitching mechanics, just my semi-informed commentary.
