Braves looking deeper into the pitching market: Randy Wolf in their sights?
"...the Braves would then find themselves dipping into the next category of available free-agent starting pitchers.
This category would include Jon Garland, Randy Wolf and Oliver Perez, who all have the capability of being profitable gambles. At the same time, Wren is talking with a number of teams with the hope of finding a trade opportunity that might not have been available as recently as last week."
I think Wolf would look good in a Braves uniform...more so than the other guys.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but...
The Astros can offer him arbitration even if he signs with another ballclub, so long as they do it before the deadline for offering arbitration.

Something to that effect
the “losing” team can receive draft pick compensation without offering arbitration if their free agent is signed before December 1st.

A good friend of mine used to say, "This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

It may turn out to be a good thing that Wolf is Type B, rather than Type A...
recall that he was marginally close to becoming Type A. As a LH starter, his Type B status is a big advantage in the markeplace, compared to Oliver Perez, who is Type A. I think Perez is a decent gamble, but if I’m a GM, I would be reluctant to give up a 1st round pick for him.
However, I don’t know what the Braves’ other plans might be. If they think they are going to sign Derek Lowe also, for example, then it’s no problem for them.
